St. Francis can set the world on fire with win over Harvard-Westlake

1. Charter Oak (4-1) — Taking the “OVER” in the Sierra League opener vs. South Hills
2. Bishop Amat (5-1) — Must hope is confidence builders since Servite pay off vs. Alemany.
3. St. Francis (5-0) — Can get inside track in Mission by beating Harvard-Westlake on Fri.
4. St. Paul (5-0) — Combined record of opponents thus far is 6-22.
5 West Covina (5-1) — With Arcadia loss, Bulldogs back to overwhelming division favorite.
6. Damien (4-1) — JSerra win sets Sparty up nicely for rugged Sierra League.
7. South Hills (3-2) — Huskies have mojo back in time for showdown with CO.
8. San Dimas (4-1) — We’re all counting the days until the Covina game.
9. Covina (5-1) — Colts badly need a healthy Billy The Kid back under center.
10. La Habra (2-3) — Wouldn’t want to be Sunny Hills on Friday night.
11. Maranatha (5-0) — Combined record of opponents: 13-19.
12. Chino Hills (2-3) — Losses to teams with combined record of 13-4.
13. La Serna (4-1) — This ranking unintentionally makes LS the tepid favorite in the Del Rio.
14. Diamond Ranch (3-3) — Becoming quite scary at just the right time.
15. Arcadia (3-2) — Inexplicable loss to Burroughs (2-3) stings on every level.
16. La Puente (5-0) — Need Nick Barrientos back to finish the job in the Montview.
17. Los Altos (5-1) — Bounced back vs. Rowland, but here come Roddy’s Ranchers.
18. Arroyo (5-1) — You know, a loss to LC may have actually helped Knights with CIF.
19. Claremont (4-1) — Nobody giving the Pack a chance in Sierra despite good record.
20. Alhambra (4-1) — Only team in Almont without a losing record.
21. El Rancho (4-1) — Dons will get chance to put Santa Fe in a world of hurt on Friday.
22. California (4-1) — Defense allowing just 11.8 points per game this season.
23. Bonita (2-3) — ‘Cats got rest before HUGE rematch with West Covina.
24. Monrovia (2-3) — Wildcats survived Paramount, now comes the easy part. Right?
25. Bosco Tech (6-0) — NOTE: It was an oversight by me to not include in the Tigers in these rankings. I delved further into this team and agree they should be in. I will make them No. 25 because I have questions about the strength of schedule (three wins over winless teams). They will rise if they can beat St. Bernard this week.

    hhhmmmmm: Charter Oak combined wins of opponents beaten are under 500. and they are the best of the SGV? The SGV must be sad! there is no reason amat is below the team that set their non league games up to win all except RC. My how the road to victory can be deceiving when you race against cars with no horse power, but its now time for the big race and the truth hurts!

    amat bully. i guess the SGV is weak then! If the the Top Dog played all pick up games against the reserve teams. CO will finish league 3-2 barely scraping into playoffs, its time and being the Tribune top ranked team with a bullseye on your back no one is going to lay down for you the qb scramble doesnt work with real linebackers.

    Based on your rankings you have Chino Hills placing 4th in the Sierra League….really? Look at their pre league schedule compared to every other team in the SGV and tell me who’s is tougher? Let’s do a little comparison shall we? :

    Chino Hills is ranked #107 in the state # 1078 nationally (max preps) (Calpreps 34.2)lost to REV the #17 team in the nation Tesoro the #313 team in the nation and Bear Creek #629. The total records of Chino Hills opponents is 17-9 and their average national ranking is 1336. They also beat # 684 Santiago who whooped Norco 49-22….4 out of 5 of the teams Chino Hills played are ranked higher than anyone in the Sierra league.

    Charter Oak is ranked #79/704 (calpreps 38.5) . total records of opponents = 13-13 average nat’l rankings of opponents 2900 . Loss was to a quality Rancho Team. Wins were against opponents with a combine 8-13 record…non have a winning record

    South Hills – 3-2 record they are ranked #173 state and 2014 nationally (calpreps 26.8). Average nat’l rankings of opponents 2900. Their wins were against #10,061 St. Monica and squeeked out wins against 2-3 Los Osos (won by 2) and 2-3 monrovia (won by 2).

    Damien – 4-1 record Ranked #114 state, #1168 Nationally (calpreps 33.4). Average opponents ranking #3242 nationally. Combined records of opponents is 12-13….only 1 opponent in top 100 of state.

    So it is obvious you don’t do any homework….you just make up rankings based on records. This is obvious by putting St. Paul #4 who had to come from behind to beat an unranked Ayala team by 3….lol …#’s 8-11 San Dimas, Covina, Maranatha, and a weaker La Habra team ahead of Chino Hills….you really think any of those teams would beat Chino Hills? You have shown your lack of knowledge about high school football.

  • Bishop Amat vs Chino Hills….week 0 next year

    It’s official…..the game many people have been want will take place next year. Amat and Chino Hills. The game will be a 2 year contract. At Chino Hills next year and Amat the following year. It should be a great matchup of 2 of the better teams in the area. I know Chino Hills is very young this year and will return many starters….don’t know much about Amat. The crowd should be great.

    The only ranking that matters is the one that exists at season’s end, when one team is crowned CIF champion. Winning league means you have managed to rise above roughly 5 other teams, and the order of finish is often open to question. Winning CIF on the other hand, means you are better than roughly 30 other squads, and you had to beat 4 very good teams in a row to establish this.

    The weekly ratings and rantings of an Aram or a Fred are merely verbal ejaculations, satisfying for the moment, but soon forgotten.

    Charter Oaks win over South Hills last night was impressive. No doubt. But….
    I STILL believe that St. Francis deserves the valleys #1 Rating. Charter Oak #2.

    St Francis : 6-0, rating 46.8, Wins over a Div I and Div III teams. Avg strength of opponents 24.58. Toughest opponent still to face CHAMINADE rating 48.9 5-1.

    Charter Oak : 5-1 Rating 41.4, Lost only step-up game to Rancho Cucamonga. Avg Strength of opponents 20. Toughest opponent still to face CHINO HILLS rating 34.5 3-3.

    I believe the numbers speak for themselves. Charter Oak is Good..damn good, and better than I was willing to give them credit for. But NOT number 1 good.

    Of coarse a few will disagree.

    Have to give St. Francis the #1 slot. An obvious choice. The Golden Knights had better be ready for Chaminade. The Eagles handed St. Paul a blow with a dominating performance. The St. Francis-Chaminade game will be the game of the week if both come away with wins next week.

    The Valley has it going on with Crespi, ND, Chaminade and Alemany.

And at least CO plays tough local talent unlike Amat who struggled to a city section team thats 1-5. But whats even crazier is the Servite victory over Bishop Amat was their biggest Victory so far this year.
    And again all you have is the past the last time CO played Amat we had a different president who was in his second term, thats history and the last time Amat played a big boy team they lost both times.
