PrepXtra Live rewind: See what happens when former USC teammates Daylon McCutcheon, Rodney Sermons, Matt Koffler and Roddy Layton reunite …

  • Gordon Gekko

Wow Daylon McCutheon. That has my attention! He was a standout for the Lancers even as a freshman slot WR, at USC he performed the moment he stepped onto the USC campus and was a legit NFL corner. As an NFL player he was never one of those players who made the team because he fit the salary cap. He was a GREAT athlete, a LEGIT CB and was always in demand by various NFL teams.

Great to see him helping his fellow Lancers (alma mater)and not be one of these vagabond former players who over markets themselves. Young Lancers are very fortunate to him on their sideline.

We used to fear him, Minor, Brown and crew on Friday Nights. Great battles versus Loyola Cubs. Nice to see DM contributing to Amat’s success.

    Go Cubs !

  • kcj

Sheehan’s football genes go farther back than dad and uncles. His grandfather was, I think, an outstanding player at Iowa, and once held the NFL record as a punter at 72 yards.

    knadzy

  • Amat

Guess who has been spotted “observing” at several Amat practices over the past two to three weeks…Kory Minor! Can we be so fortunate to have him around and contemplating or considering maybe coming HOME to help coach? Probably wishful thinking but Damn, can you just imagine……Go Big Blue!!!!

  • AMAT 73

    AMAT,
Nothing new as Kory has been roving the fields of AMAT in the past. It would be nice if he joined the staff either full time or part but with his business ventures don’t know if he has the time to commit .

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

You guys are gonna be BLOWN AWAY by tonight’s show. MAKE SURE YOU WATCH!!!

  • Dan

Actually I met and sat with Kory at a couple of West Covina freshmen games last season, he knows one of the freshmen coaches there, nice guy and maannn, Too have a linebacker the size and caliber of Kory at West Covina would be special.

  • Gordon Gekko

Good job Aram. An amusing piece.

Finally, we get to view guys who competed at a real PAC 10 (Now PAC 12) university, USC.

Imagine if just a quarter of all former USC athletes organized and conducted camps throughout Southern California. Wow!

See these guys not respond to the Washington St. comment (silence).

People love high school football, especially those who are loyal to their respective alma mater. High school football is fun, college semi-business like and the pros all business & politics $$$ (boring).

Keep brining in quality coaches such as these Aram! Nice work.

    Go Cubs!

Best PrepXtra Live yet! Before this season I had not known much about the DR coach. I know this now, this guy cracks me up!
Being a USC fan, last nights show was a treat.

Great job guys. Going to be hard to top that one.

Roddy never lets one get by him…”there are no former Trojans…when you’re a Trojan you’re a Trojan for life”. Lots of things might ave splipped by as well to a few viewers. Roddy was there as a walk on after his time at MSAC by way of Ganesha…so there is hope for dreamers who are told they are not good enough…or smart enough. Also, Roddy was there on an academic and had family issues to consider as he followed his personal and professional dream. Finally, it’s a treat to see the Bishop legends expressions when their former team mates walk into the room…that’s genuine love and says a lot about the good times these men have shared years after their playing days are over.
I wonder really what’s not to love and respect about high school coaches who get it like these individuals do. As Sermons said…”that’s my sanctuary” and as all the coaches shared…”head coaching isn’t for every one”…even if you’re a former State Player of the Year as D Mac was.
Aram…seems you’ve finally turned your focus where it should have been long ago…on the coaches…all the coaches…assistants included. Now where did I hear that one before? Would have been sweet to do this at a local place of busines (trust me the local eateries would welcome you with open arms…think F.O.O.D.)
Petros Papadakis had his local show Monday at the Claimjumpers in Monrovia and you guessed it…it was huge as a certain local big time recruit was all the rage…come on Aram…in your own back yard?
Last point…as I’ve said many, many, mnay times…those that hate on Roddy have no clue.
Any one up for Pizza? Think big Aram….

  • Mike

    Aram,

These Tuesday night shows as well as the Friday night wrap-up are outstanding. You do a great job coordinating the room and keeping everyone focused. They are very easy to watch (your competition is trying there best but they don’t have the same flow). Congrats, the Valley is very fortunate to have this kind of coverage. What the Trib does is not the norm even though many around town may believe that.

  • Pizza Party Fan

Aram ever thought of doing your show with the “help” of USC…as a partnership with the University and their students? Seems like a natuarl fit to have “interns” run the lighting, audio and whatnots. Would put your show on a whole different level. Might even get IE and OC attention…and from there ..who knows. Don’t dismiss this much longer as I’ve spoken to a few people in the business and it’s a no brainer and easy as pie to do. Trust me when I tell you…most of my ideas have value that you’ll see with time….lol
Maybe it’s time to get the Three Amigos, Gano, Farrar and Bogan, on your show as the Sierra League looks towards the playoffs. The blog has always had the capacity to be something special and unique. No need to reinvent the wheel as all the ideas are out their and are tried and true. Heck even ELA has Louie Moreno, who I went to grammar school with, and he covers local sporting events with camera man in tow. Now he’s a remarkable story in and of himself.
Point being…stop flying by the seat of your pants…it’s been what six..seven…..going on eight years now? In most business environments that wouldn’t fly. Any way best of luck figuring it out….btw…might want to “edit” the down time after the LIVE show has aired…..seems more professional….and yes I have a hook up for that too.

  • Dog Town

Aram GREAT SHOW!!!! You guys had my full attention. I am not a USC fan. A Bruin for life, Your timing was great, the guest were very relaxed and having a great time. • NICE vid, dude

Rodney Sermons and Daylon McCutcheon really showed how special it is to play at Keifer on Friday nights. They got and showed love for their Alma Mater. Everyone should watch this video. This interview starts at…

    13:00

    “Warriooors…come out to plaaaaay…..”

  • What a joke

There goes our know it all Frank, telling everyone how to do their job again. Didn’t he post on another thread something about a wise man saying less, and letting the fool rant?

  • Stalker Fan

    Actually…no and NO!

You still hanging on my every word. I see where you’re coming from….nothing can be improved. In fact the other day a former blogger stalker came on here and was talking smack to me about Layton and then when I called him we exchanged game scores all night by text…lol Imagine that? So much for tough talk and credibility. He’s harmless and he knows it and I suspect you are as well. BTW isn’t the blog a second guessing haven in the first place?

Always been Aram’s problem as far as flying by the seat of his pants…trust me it was a great great great…did I mention great interview….but it could be better is all I’m saying from a technical stand point and even Aram would admit that.

No need to get your panties in a bunch or feel the need to come to Aram’s aid…he’s a big boy nad as his Practice Ambushes showed…”he was flying by the seat of his pants”….all good….no one will lose sleep over looking like an amatuer hour/high school production.

Last point…these interviews go a long way in showing the reality of most coaches lives….they are all really part of a fraternity and have more in common that any one of us care to admit.

Still it was cool to see Layton do his thing….and it was a big surprise to “hear” Koffler…..talk about a “laid back dude”…hilarious..in a great way.

I’m sure every recommendation I made to Aram he wished he could get…but it most be “in the works” as we speak.

  • blog stalker?? have you looked in the mirror lately?

i havent said anything about roddy or DRHS in a loooooong time,….i dont have to, someone at Walnut did and he got suspended,….for trying to recruit kids at JR All American game at Walnut high, while wearing his DR gear…..these arent my rules, these are cif’s….trying to pimp little kids his way….so what does roddy do? he talks DB/Walnut Jr All American football to play their home games at DRHS, so Roddy can have his pick without getting busted…this is not bullsh*t, and it is within the rules, he just knows how to bend ‘em in his favor…he aint no angel among the coaching community, this was straight from a legends mouth…i wont quote who but you call me and i’ll tell ya all about it,…

A “Minor Problem In La Puente”
    Amat Loses Again –

Kory Minor a former football linebacker. He played 30 games in four seasons for the Carolina Panthers.

“A native of Inglewood”, California, Minor attended Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, California. What was he doing in La Puente?

Minor is currently an owner of multiple Domino’s Pizza franchises in California. He promotes the Cali Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza in a face off against the Memphis BBQ Chicken pizza, whose promoter suggests that Minor “put some South in his mouth”.

Get it? He put “some south in his mouth” LOL!

  • WhereInTheWorldIsCarmenAmat???

Looks like the Warriors didn’t just “Come Out and Play.”

The Warriors also came out to La Puente to kick the BishopAmat Lancers’ a$$…

    LMAO…

    Why BishopNOMAS can’t WIN:
    - Small Offensive Line
    - Small Defensive Line
    - Mutiny at the Left Tackle
    - Favorite Status at QB
    - 1 decent running back, but can’t run against the big boys
    - The arrogance of the BishopNomas Honks
    - Terrible Head Coaching decisions (see end of 2nd qtr)
    - your a PAC 5 Participant just like JSerra!

    No Ring For You…

    Let’s try it again!

    Ready?

Overrrrr Rated…. Say it Loud and Proud…!

    OVER RATED…! OVER RATED…! C’ mon…Yankees style Clap…!

    Over Rated…clap, clap…clap,clap,clap!

    Top 10 Rankings for Monday

Charter Oak – Did you see that display of offensive power? No Doubt About It. They are really fun to watch!

West Covina – They are still the team to beat in Southeast.

St Francis – They are at 6-0. Nice!

Covina – Only one loss to WC, they look to be getting stronger.

Damien – They have turned it around over there. I know its only Claremont, but this week they get the love.

    San Dimas – Playing better

Arcadia – Watch out WestCo. These guys can beat you if you let em.

Los Altos – The biggest Surprise of the season.

La Habra – back to .500 and ready to win league, AGAIN!

Bishop Amat – What can you say..but Hah…Hah…Hah! at 4 – 2, they are lucky that Cathedral and Venice couln’t close the deal…Otherwise, the little Lancers would be 2 – 4! Pac5 or not…You have to Drop Them from the Top 10.

And 2 weeks ago Little Freditto said I was crazy for ranking them at 10….Hah!!!

    c

  • realityczech

JoseCanYouSee? – that makes NoSense. You have Damien at #5 and Amat dominated them 28-7. Cathedral “couldn’t close the door.” They lost 56-7! They barely got to the doorstep! That Venice team won Friday 45-21, La Mirada won 55-27, and Garfield won 35-21. Don’t sound like cupcakes to me? WC got stomped by Loyola (and Covina lost to WC), so let’s see that comparative score when it happens. La Habras .500 and can’t beat any Pac 5 teams, losing 51-6 to a yearly outsider (ie: Pac 5 participant) St John Bosco. And then you’re “#1″ team has lost to the decent team they’ve played. What a display!
    You’re STILL crazy!

Dude you’re in need of serious psychological intervention. You are carrying on conversations for your own enjoyment. Posting under all those different names doesn’t fool anyone. We all know your sac-less rhetoric so just own it skippy! It really isn’t more entertaining w/a different screen name attached. You just confirm that you are indeed a C.L.O.W.N.!!! Everytime you try to pass your one man conversations off as different posters it’s painfully obvious that you are hurting inside. Give us your address and we can send the P.E.T. team to your house. Or maybe we can avoid all that and just make you a bonafide BISHOP AMAT BOOSTER CLUB MEMBER!

  • Dan

    Realityczech,
No Solomon, No Frazier, No Franklin vs Loyola, don’t tell me that wouldn’t make a difference for the Bulldogs, good luck to the Lancers.

  • AMAT 73

    Aram,
Real nice letting Quasimoto the village idiot post using my posting name . They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but from this fool it’s more of a disgrace . Dan , you’re right having those players would have have made a hell of a difference.

  • realityczech

No Shay, No Alcantara, No excuses. Everyone has injuries, right? I’m betting Loyola was missing some guys somewhere too. There probably isn’t a good team that isn’t a bit banged up. Who was South Hills missing when you beat them by 2 points? Or who was Glendora missing when you beat them by 1 point. That’s a pretty small difference to make up and doesn’t really show “dominance”. All we have are the results to go by

  • Dan

You know as well as I that the drop off in skill when losing Solomon, Frazier, and Franklin at WC is more drastic than Amat losing Shay and Alcantera. With Pac 5 schools the skill level doesn’t change as much from 1st to 2nd string cause they are usually at least 2 deep at most positions. Our 1′s are very good but after that there is a bigger drop off than Amat would have. As for Loyola, and South Hills both were healthy against WC. Glendora had a lineman and linebacker missing, By the way, you rubbed in our 2 point win over SH, believe me the difference could have just as easy been 14 to 21 points if not for a fumble and a missed hand off, both of which turned into quick scores late in the game for SH. We also kept Glendora close with mistakes and turnovers.
Injuries are no excuse but they are legitimate, they do change a team, lower level teams more than upper level, but I only brought this up because you came on here wanting to use the the comparative score analysis to compare West Covina and Amat, I say good luck with that, but you can’t know who is better by that method. If Loyola rolled over Amat in a similar fashion that Servite did, we still would not know if West Covina would beat the Lancers, if Amat beat Loyola, that doesn’t translate into Amat beatin WC. Thought you would know that by now.
