Mid-Valley Division Playoffs Update: Whittier Christian loss likely makes Covina, Arroyo, San Dimas, Monrovia the top-four seeds … IN THAT ORDER …

Whittier Christian’s loss to Village Christian likely means that your top-four seeds in the Mid-Valley Division will be 1. Covina, 2. Arroyo, 3. San Dimas and 4. Monrovia.

Maranatha needs a win over L.A. Baptist on Saturday morning to clinch third place in the Olympic League. Maranatha would likely be one of the four at-large teams.

The at-large battle is between (in no particular order):

Maranatha (if they beat L.A. Baptist)
Village Christian (if Maranatha loses to L.A. Baptist)
Sierra Vista
South El Monte
South Pasadena

The open letter to CIF will be coming tomorrow ….

Are you sure Aram? I thought CIF wouldn’t give 2 teams from the same league a top 4 seed??? I think the #1 team from the Olympic will get the 4 seed, Monrovia 3 and San Dimas the 5 seed. Which means Monrovia and SD on same side of bracket…

  • Nate,

Yes, there can be two teams from the same league in the top-four seeds, so long as the second-place team is not seeded higher than the first-place team.

  • Nate

Ok cool. There is going to be a mess the the Southeast then because Arcadia is the 2 seed but will be the #2 team from the Pacific.

  • Observantcat

That means that Arroyo will play Pomona in their opener, and now Monrovia will play Maranatha in it’s opener. This should be a very interesting bracket.

  • Mtownclown

i think Monrovia will get South el monte …SD will get Maranatha Again….and Arroyo will get pomona unfortunately

  • The Tribune News “Political” agenda

Once again La times did a article about the City section seedings. The article was about how the “Coaches” Were upset about the current process. Not the Reporters for the LA times. It’s not their business how CIF pairings are done…They are not involved. They are just reporting. This “Open Letter” from the star news is real bush league reporting. Reports are not supposed to get involve in matters like this. This really shows some type of political position from the star news…How about letting the cards fall and lay where they lay…My question is why does the tribune news Care about who’s getting screwed or rewarded with playoff seedings? Why not ask the coaches from the midvalley about what they think about the pairings first..why not just do your job…and report on the games….Sending CIF A letter trying to convince CIF to view the midvalley through the eyes of the “Tribune” is flat out sickning….They will probably put Arams letter in the shredder…I can’t believe a paper is doing this.

I’m thinking if Mtown gets 4 seed, then they land the best at large team , which will probably be Pomona. That would be a GREAT game and make a statement for Mtown!

  • Monrovia vs the Whole VVL

Mtown playing Pomona, and then Covina in Semis and San Dimas in the Finals…Geesh the whole Midvalley want’s it to be Monrovia vs VVL…well If they want it that way.

  • Another Option

    Monrovia vs the Whole VVL,
Or Monrovia could play Pomona. Lose. And not have to fret over having to play San Dimas (again) and then Covina.

  • Another Option

Correction:…”and then Covina”…should be “or Covina”
