UPDATE: West Covina vs. La Serna will remain at California High (in Whittier) …

After a walk through by CIF officials on Wednesday, the site of the Southeast Division championship game between West Covina and La Serna will remain California High in Whittier at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Did we actually think that CIF would make a “sound” decision OR is there more to the story like, there are no more stadiums available 2 DAYS before the game?

I wonder what they were saying during the walk thru “…there’s enuf seats…grass is good and well maintained…WC won’t pack this place…” NOT!

    Save me a seat!

  • Once a Swordsman…

Time to quit complaining and play some FOOTBALL.

  • La Serna alum

I am going to be squeezed in there just like everyone else. All the haters saying la serna is ridiculous for having the game at cal needs to realize the people to blame are the officials at CIF. The final game venue should be up to them, they are the ones recieving the profits of ticket sales while it’s the schools responsibility to pay for the venue. I am in favor of what coach Beltran is doing, if he is giving his team an advantage or not he is taking all the blame for the benefit of his team just like the w Covina coach is trying to do the best for his team.

    La Sena Alum…

You’re incorrect. Schools are the ones that choose the venue if they are the home school. The only thing the CIF requires is that it can handle the crowd.
You are also wrong that the CIF gets all the profits. The CIF shares all revenue with the participating schools in a 60-20-20 split. The CIF also pays all expenses.

  • La Serna alum

I understand La Serna picked to play at Cal High, what i am saying is Cif officials should pick the venue from the beginning, it shouldnt be up to the schools no matter who is palying. In my opinion there is alot of things that need to be fixed in the playoffs. Seeding the teams is a joke because it only guarntees one home game. Although i am a lancer fan i think the boys from w covina deserve to play at home because of how consistent they have been all year but it is what it is. I also was unaware of how generous cif was only taking 60% of all revenue.

  • West Co may surround the battlefield

Cif runs and organizes More than Football. What about the other sports. That’s a lot of work governing thousands of schools. They need money too. I love west co, They are going to pack it out. How about this west co fans; Send out a Viral text to everyone to get there early…After the visitor’s side is full, West Co Fans sit on the La Serna Side. CIF can’t control where people sit. There could be a large number of wesco fans sitting on the La Serna side, But I bet La Serna Fans won’t sit on the West co side. Just a thought.

Just to clarify about CIF percentage of the game gate. I am the bookkeeper at a high school and CIF gets 60% of the gate money and the two teams split what is remaining after the home team deducts its operating expenses. That includes, venues – if necessary, refs, announcer, time clock, security, janitors, ambulance, sideline doctor, ticket takers, ticket sellers, etc. Once those costs have been deducted then the other team is sent a check for half of what is remaining. CIF does not pay for the patches, those are paid out of the athletic fund, booster club or kids/parents. CIF pays for the trophies it hands out.
