Justen Meaders senior highlights video: This is what a defensive athlete looks like … I see a next-level outside backer here …

Aram’s take: Athletic and has that burst that gets him right to the QB or ball carrier, then packs a punch when he gets there. Only going to get stronger. Somebody is gonna score on him. Defensive end was his HS position, so imagine him being upright before the snap with that kind of speed. Pretty nice. Tribune Defensive Player of the Year and you can see why.

Thank you for posting this on your blog. Any piece of exposure these atheletes can get helps tremendously in the recruiting process. And as usual you and Fred and the rest of the SGVN news group do a fantastic job in covering and promoting these talented young boys and girls in our area!

My favorite play is at 1:56! That play was just plain CHILD ABUSE! Hahaha

Please everyone enjoy the other videos I have on my youtube channel and expect more to come. I’m already brain storming a season preview video in my head and the season does not even start until August lol!

Hope everyone is already having a happy new year!

    Go Bulldogs!

  • Love the bite

Bulldog has bite, I like your stuff on AT’s and Freddie’s blog so keep up the good work. I think the way #7 tossed # 77 aside like a rag doll to make a tackle at about 2:52 of the highlight was very impressive. Where is this kid going? How big? Height, weight 40 time and strength stats etc? Strong safety in college or linebacker? Doesn’t look big enough to bena standup outside guy or down d end in college or am I wrong?

  • Bulldogs have bite

    Love the bite,

Thanks! I try to stay as objective as possible, but sometimes the WC homer in me gets the best of me lol!

Justen is plenty big enough to be an outside linebacker. He stands at 6’2″ and currently weighs 220-230 lbs! He is built like a WWE superstar! Trust me, if you see him in person, it’s visibly obvious he spends A LOT OF TIME in the weight room!

these stats are pulled from a West Covina program:

40 time: 4.72 sec (12th fastest on the team)
    Shuttle: 4.18 sec (3rd)
    Bench Press: 325 lbs (1st)
    Squat: 465 lbs (1st)
    Power Clean: 280 lbs (2nd)

  • Bulldogs have bite

    Forgot the last question,

Last I heard was that he is getting looks from Arizona, Arizona State, Montana and San Jose State. Not sure if there are any offers yet. But he’s going to play somewhere for sure!

  • Dan

    Aram, Bulldogs H.B.,
Thanks for this video on Justin, very impressive, I missed a lot of this during the season with everything else that goes on in a game, but it’s nice to watch it on this highlight video. Our defense was lights out once we got the coverage breakdowns straightened out and moved Dorin Turner to middle, and Justin was a major reason. Impressive how he threw some of these linemen around. I hope this kid gets his shot on Saturday’s somewhere.

  • Dan

One other thing Aram, you mentioned it during the season and I’ve gotta agree with you, watching the video’s of Justin Meaders, Lonzell Barnett, and Dorin Turner on defense, your right, there was a certain physical meanness to the Bulldogs syle of play these past couple of years.

  • talent evaluation

This is one of my favorite players in the valley He reminds me of me. He has a lot of raw talent. I would say Justin is about 6’1 210 lbs. However he is built like a D1 player should be. He has a great Nose for the the ball. The most impressive part of Meaders game is that he uses his hands to shed blockers. This is a important skill and under rated skill. He does it every play. He also makes strong tackles and hits. I think He still has to work on keeping the ball inside of him. He made several reaching tackles, where on the next level those guys break them or won’t be there. Meaders will have to improve on his foot speed. The one issue undersized DE who convert to backer have, is slower feet. This is due to fact that backers have to play pass and run, and move in all directions. DE move in the same direction, and have no coverage responsibilities. Change of direction and pass coverage, are the only question marks recruiters may have. He will need some polishing, and i don’t know if Pac12 schools will pull the trigger, But who knows what may happen. He is a great player. I can see Meaders playing at the D1 level(San Jose state, Toledo, Ohio, Colorado state, Hawaii) or D1AA.
a This can be improved with Jump rope and working out.

  • My Pay Dan

I’m going to make a point and hope I don’t get killedfor it but understand I think Meaders is a very solid athlete so this isn’t a dig but an observation.

Having seen almost every team they were scheduled to play and understanding the possibility that WC was on to even greater sucees, plus knowing D1 scouts would be watching Solomon, and by default all WC athletes, why not play Meaders at the LB position this year.

Gano did this with two year DE starter Alex Arevalo who is about as physically gifted as Meaders but I would say a bit better in space. Alex clearly had a great year at LB and at 6’2″ 215/220 seems better suited to the LB position much like Meaders.

I did notice Meaders strength with his hands and also his mean streak but with so many blow outs just seems he wasn’t featured as much for his next level position.

BTW Arevalo also caught balls at the TE position and had great runs after INTs, was wondering if Meaders also played offense or if he ran with the ball as well when he had the ball in his hands either on offense or defense.

Heck when it’s all said and done what does any one know. Look at the Steelers Harrison at 5’10” and Denver’s Von Miller who is an under sized pass rushing freak.

  • The Most Importanta Stats…….

What is his GPA and SAT scores. When college recruiters go to a school, that is the first thing they want to see. If they don’t have a good GPA and SAT scores, they could 4un a 4.2 40 and bench 600 lbs and that won’t get them a ride. Kids need to know that it ALL starts in the classroom.!

  • Dan

    My Pal,
From what I remember they tried Justin at inside linebacker last year for the first game or two, then moved him to DE. Maurice Dupleasis who was our stud LB last year was hurt during those games so maybe that’s why they had Justin in the middle, my guess is the coaches felt he excelled more at DE than at inside LB.
Maybe this year could have been different with another year of experience under his belt but they kept him at DE. Lets remember that Justin didn’t play football till his high school days, so with his lack of experience, and with the stellar season he had at DE as a junior, my guess is the coaches felt it was better to keep him at end and stick with kids who grew up in the game for the inside backer positions, kids like Bradly Ojala and Dorin Turner.
Not to change the subject but how about that Tim Tebow! Ugly throwing mechanics, terrible stats, negative press, critics saying he wouldn’t do anything in the pros ever since he won the heisman, and all he does is keep plugging away, and believing in God and
believing in himself and believing in his team, and winning games. He never shows any attitude or anger about all the negative things that are said about him, all he’s done since he took over at qb is lead his team to believe in each other and lead his team to the playoffs, in doing so he and the Bronco’s have 5 fourth quarter comeback victories, with 4 wins in overtime.
I like the irony of yesterdays game. I heard this on the radio this morning, As we all know, Tebow is a devout Christian and is often criticised for his faith. The most famous verse in the Bible is John 3:16 which for the most part says “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, so that who so ever believes in him may have everlasting life.”
You see this verse many times held up on a poster in the stands, or sometimes written on the black paste players put under their eyes for the glare of the sun.
Whats ironic is that the last play of the game, the 80 yard touchdown strike that Tebow threw in overtime, that play put Tebow at exactly 316 yards passing for the day, the same numbers as the famous Bible verse mentioned above. Not sure how much of a roll the good Lord plays in wins and losses of games, but some will wonder if he put his stamp on this game.

  • So GOD hates the Steelers?

So if Tebow is god’s chosen one, you are saying he likes the broncos better than the steelers? If it was that easy, The SAINTS would win the superbowl every year. Tebow is a fluke…he’ll be a one season wonder if you can call an 8-8 season a wonder! Once D coordinators have the off season to plan against him, he’ll be done….he’s a gimmick.

  • jon

tebow was actually 8-4 this season…

  • Dan

To the poster below who said:
    “So GOD hates the Steelers?
So if Tebow is god’s chosen one, you are saying he likes the broncos better than the steelers? If it was that easy, The SAINTS would win the superbowl every year. Tebow is a fluke…”

Where in my post did I ever insinuate that God hates the Steelers or any team that loses, or that Tebow is his chosen one?
    Don’t be so sensitive.
As for Tebow, one season wonder or not, even if he neve accomplishes another thing in football, just by what he’s done this season he can be proud for a lifetime, let alone what he has done in college or in his personal life. By the way did you make it to the pro’s?
Look at what he has done for football this year. Look at the interest he has created for the sport, he has had commentators and annalist talking about him and the Broncos all season. In a not so small way he has transended the game itself. He has caught the interest from not only the regular fans or die hard fans but he has caused interest from the casual fan as well. He has even brought in new fans such as wives and girlfriends of football fans. Can you imagine how fun it must have been to be a Bronco fan this season with all those late game heroics? Or how electric it must have been at that game on Sunday? Yes I also see his bad throwing mechanics, and the struggles he has had with his accuracy. I would not be suprised at all if the DC’s in the league figure him out in the offseason and shut him down in the future.
On the other hand, with his never say die attitude, and positive outlook on life, I also would not be suprised if he works so hard in the offseason and becomes a very good NFL quarterback. His class and good character and his diehard will to improve and better himself, and elevate his team are enough to win just about anybody over, I hope he has a stellar career and proves all his the wrong.

Last year eric mikity for bonita had 162 tackles!! 111 solo and 51 assisted, but i didnt see you guys talk about him? It always has to be something about West Covina, get off their nuts already

  • Bulldogs have bite

Stop your crying geez! Mikity I’m sure was a fine athelete. So instead of crying about it, why don’t you do something about it? Post a link to his highlights. Tell us what college he is going to etc….

It may sound like everything is West Covina this and West Covina that lately. But that’s only because if you watch the video you can see the recognition is well deserved. Meaders, Solomon and Frazier were part of a special class at WC that brought the Bulldogs back to back titles. Including three victories over Bonita in that two year span. Politics have nothing to do with it, Meaders was definately one of the best defenders in the SGV period. Put him on Bonita and he would still be DPOY! Bonita got plenty of shine in 2010 when they went 12-2, but those two losses were against West Covina. Bonita dropped of considerably last season wile WC remained champions. I have plenty of respect for Bonita, but as the saying goes; “to the victor goes the spoils”.
