West Covina’s Chris Solomon picks Nevada …

West Covina running back/safety Chris Solomon spurned Colorado for Nevada on Wednesday.

Solomon was between Colorado, which he raved about following a recruiting trip, and Nevada which reportedly will give him the chance to play running back. Solomon shined as both a safety and running back at West Covina, but was mostly recruited as a safety.

Solomon was the Tribune’s 2010 Player of the Year and an All-Area selection at defensive back in 2011 after leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back CIF Southeast Division championships.

Aram’s take: Congrats to Chris! One of the hardest-working players I’ve ever seen got his efforts rewarded. Nevada is a very nice program and hopefully we see “Solo” toting the rock for the ‘Pack sometime in the near future.

  • Huskies in the house!

The rumor I heard today was Solomon’s scholarship from Colorado was pulled because the Buffaloes gave too many offers to other athletes that they had rated higher on their board so when Solomon went to accept they had no more scholarships left for him.

Regardless, he fits in much better at Nevada and playing in that conference. Pac-12 in my opinion was too much football for the young man. He will do well at Nevada and have a much better chance of getting on the football field and excelling. Good luck to him.

Congrats to Solo! I think it’s a good fit and he will get the needed exposure.

    Was never a Nevada fan…until now…

  • Bulldogs have bite

Congratulations Chris! Nevada just gained one heck of a football player and a good kid who keeps himself out of trouble. Oh and about 30-40 extra fans wearing Solomon Jerseys up in the stands! I think the key thing here is that Nevada is going to give him the chance to play running back. Smart move by Nevada, his physical style and speed are a good fit for the pistol offense.

  • Observantcat

Congratulations Chris, I used to bet against Nevada all the time and lost Money every single time. I will now reverse my bets and bet on You and Your team and hope that you prevail to become the MVP of the Wolfpack. You will also join up with a great QB from Southern Cal, Cody Farjado. Good luck, and go tear them up……..777’s

  • Observantcat,

You bet? I’ve got something coming from you.

@ Huskies in the house, did you take pleasure in spreading that rumor you just spread? Who gives a s&#t about your opinion and your back handed well wishes. By the way, Nevada was 13 and 1 and beat Boise St,Cal Fresno St., and Boston College the year before last.I would say that comes pretty close to Pac ten ball.

  • Dan

    Before I forget,
Congratulations Chris! I knew since your freshman year
you would be a special player, glad to see you go to a school that is willing to let you play on offense. Have fun and keep working hard both on and off the field!

  • Not Good Enough?

Maybe he wasn’t good enough for Colorado? Maybe he should have looked at Eastern Washington instead! just sayin’

  • Why?

    @ Not good enough
Why would he look at Eastern Washington (a D1-a school) when Nevada is a very successful D1 school. There’s nothing wrong with a scholarship to a D1-a school, but when your good enough to qualify and play at a very good D1 school, then it’s a “no brainer” to accept the offered scholarship. The kid is a winner, the football program at Nevada is a top notch program, the head football coach at Nevada is a legend, and that’s why Nevada offered the scholarship.

  • Cousin from Arizona

I don’t care what anybody says about my cousin (Washington, Colorado and anyone else that did not believe in him). He will first of all excel in his studies and prove everyone wrong with his football talent. Congratulations Cousin (Solo). It’s going to be a fun and exciting year for you and all the family (especially all of us Zonies). Luv ya and see you in Reno!

  • Manny

Congrats Chris and go tear it up!! Solo Nation will invade Reno Nevada!!

  • Bob

@ Huskies in the house (shed),

Since you all are playing with the big boys over there, is the Sierra League “too much football” for the Huskies? 3-7 ????????????????????????????

You are an exceptional football player and an even more impressive young man. Best of luck!

  • Coach Corona
