Miggy Melendez says Alhambra names Joe Kanach new head football coach …

Alhambra has filled its open varsity football head coach job with Joe Kanach, who coached Hawthorne to a 5-5 record this past season, according to the Star-News’ Miggy Melendez.

Miguel said he spoke with Alhambra athletic director Jerry De Santis, who today confirmed the hiring. Kanach replaces Lou Torres, who was 13-9 in two seasons after replacing long-time Moors coach Gil Ruedaflores.

Aram’s take: Uh yeah, I have no clue who Kanach is, but he steps into a decent situation because the Moors have quite a bit returning and may actually be a slight early favorite in the Almont over defending champ San Gabriel.

Alhambra athletic director Jerry De Santis fired Coach Lou Torres who went 9-3 last year and hired Coach Joe Kanach who was fired from Hawthorne High School for going 7-13. How do these guys get these jobs?

He played 1 year at West Point never played at Tulane. De La Salle school was in New Orleans not the powerhouse in California. He was fired 2 games into the season at an Oregon High School where he was head coach. Does not look like a good hire.

That is what the headline reads in the Pasadena Star News today.
