Who’s ready for some Matt Simko vs. Claremont, Jack Austin vs. Chris Hawkins? Maybe a little Noodles al dente? What about a Thropay sighting? If you’re down for it, get your cakes to the Rancho Tournament on May 19!

Colony QB Matt Simko could meet up with his former team Claremont in the Rancho Tourney.

Here is the field for the Rancho Cucamonga Tournament on Sat., May 19 at 9 a.m.

Rancho Cucamonga, West Covina, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Ayala, Colony, Ontario, San Juan Hills, Ganesha, Claremont, Huntington Beach and Corona Santiago.

The 12 teams will be put into four groups. After pool play, the four first-place teams will square off for the championship. The four second-place teams will play each other. The four third-place teams will play each other. The entire event should be over by 1 p.m.

Aram’s take:
Most teams start spring ball on May 7. If you’re a fan who wants to see how your team looks, but you’re bored with watching them running around and do drills in spring practice, then passing games are for you. We can all overreact together. It will be fun and it gets started VERY SOON. I hear Chino Hills is going to be a powerhouse, so I’m very excited to see how the Huskies look. Also excited to get a first look at Noodles and where West Covina will be using him. The best matchup of the day, if we get it, would be to see Chino Hills WR Jack Austin go against Rancho standout corner Chris Hawkins. VERY NICE!

  • CHHS Question

AT, I am glad to hear CHHS is supposed to be a “powerhouse”, but based upon what? They won’t be as talented as the team two years ago with IFO and the boys and they weren’t very good last year and graduated some starters, right? Do they have some very good young talent or something? Do they have a QB that get the ball to Austin, a line to protect the QB and any backs to tote the rock?

All the offseason buzz I’ve been hearing about Chino Hills has been that this team is going to be a force. I know they return some key skill players and although some good linemen graduate, CH always has linemen.

We will all get a small gauge as to whether the hype is justified when we see them at the Ranch tourney.

  • Kennedy Bryant

    I dunno …

    M. Bryant 28 rec. 541 yds 6 TDs
    A. Craft 37 rec. 603 yds 6 TDs

    Bryant 5 INT
    Craft 2 INT

Craft is a great DB and Bryant is, too.

G5 is great in his own right, but a different position entirely.

They all look pretty damn good to me.

Monrovia is so deep that the ball gets spread around. Craft and Mason would have had even bigger numbers last year, but there were also Luke Williams and G5 to spread the ball around. This petty bickering is unhealthy. If you have something good to say about players, THEN SAY IT. Don’t be jealous or spiteful about the attention one blogger gives to a particular player. Come on here and shower praises on whomever else needs attention. It seem that some particular blogger is the one needing attention, though, rather than the players he is claiming are better.

Let’s not race to the bottom in this dialog. Let’s pull other Monrovia players upward.

  • Bulldoggy

    Hey Monrovia Fans,

Why are you all up on the Rancho Tourney Blog? I don’t see your team signed up for the tournament. Why don’t you check in when your team is ready to move up from the D-League. Until then, anytime, anywhere, anyone!! West Co baby!!!

  • Angola Prison

    Little Doggy,

Do you and your little Wesco Bullpups a favor, stop talking about how great you are and the great non D league you all play in. Worry about trying to get some D-1 players at WESCO. Yeah I guess the D league your referring to is the D1 ballers they have in Monrovia.

  • 8 man football

Until they stop playing 8 man football, please consider all Monrovia talk just that, talk!

Number of D1 athletes means nothing – football is a TEAM sport!

  • Red Leader

Shut the hell up Bulldoggy. Seriously? “anytime, anywhere, anyone”. Really? Can you really arrange that? You knucklehead. Stop worrying about Monrovia and worry about all the seniors you guys are losing this year.

  • Bulldogs have bite

    Angola Prison,

Not defending Bulldoggy, he has enthusiasm but realistically speaking he should realize their is not much seperating the top teams in the Mid-Valley and Southeast Divisions.

About D1 players at WESCO, we will be a young team next year but there is D1 talent potential in the Dog pound. DE/TE Justin Hornsby has all the physical tools to play at the next level, if he has a spectacular season this year he will get offers. Antonio “Noodles” Hull will be a sophmore and the kid clearly has talent. Muleck Henderson is the best DB nobody’s ever heard about. It will be an exciting team to watch regardless of D1 talent or not. Look at Muir or Monrovia against South Hills, tons of D1 talent does not always equate to being the superior team. As it stands now, I’m happy with Walter Thurmond playing in the NFL, Albert Cid starting at guard for UCLA and Chris Solomon going to Nevada to play running back.

    Go Bulldogs!

  • Angola Prison

    @Bulldogs have bite.

I respect what you just said.

  • Angola Prison

Im always concerned when someone talks about how this team did against that team or we beat that team so they could beat your team. Listen teams have bad games, teams have bad coaching, and teams have injuries, so to honest one game does not make a team or a season. CHAMPIONSHIPS do because to get to the championship you have to be playing your best and playing the best. So what a team is doing at the beginning of the season is meaningless just ask the super bowl 8-8 CHAMPION
    NYG.
THE REALITY here is THIS is HS Football there isnt that much difference in talent and in my opinion DIVIONS are meaningless. MHS until recently was playing in what would be considered DIV III . MHS is still the same size, the same families live there therefore the talent pool is the same. So for those of you who have short memories MHS used to play Bishop Amat and went 1-2 and they beat the brakes off the likes of Chino 75-0, and Crespi. The Point here is you play who you when you play and you have to win. And MHS now is no different then they were 30 years ago and MHS held their own against the best schools then and would hold their own against the best now. Some schools and teams have changed but MHS hasnt it still little ole Monrovia population 38,000.

    Angola Prison,

I agree with you, just wish we could see M-Town play Amat, WestCo, Charter Oak or Damien. I know that we may have seen one or two of those games this year, but Coach Maddox had already committed to other games.

I liked last year’s sked with Glendora and South Hills. Those are games we all want to see.

  • reality

How can anyone use the statement “because to get to the championship you have to be playing your best and playing the best” when referring to the Md-Valley?
How do you know you are really playing your best when you are definitely NOT playing the best? There is no way you can compare the playoff run of Pomona , Whittier Christian , Covina , and San Freakin Gabriel to teams like Upland, Santa Margarita, or Vista Murrietta who eliminated those other schools. Monrovia didn’t exactly go through the gauntelt to get a championship. They couldn’t beat Arcadia, San Dimas, or South Hills – and they’re gonna compete with those kind of schools?
Were they playing their best and have gotten better – or do they just no longer have to go through teams like Oak Park , Nordhoff, Paraclete, etc?
Championships a not created equal and there are divisions for a reason. monrovias division is closer to Rio Hondo Preps division than they are to Charter Oak, Damien, or Bishop Amats division.

  • Bulldoggy

    @Angola Prison

You’re seriously gonna run with that? We put more kids in D-1. Everyone’s on to that “Pad your stats down in the D-league” trick. Even Scoby is jumping on that train. I NEVER ran my mouth about how much better West Co is than Monrovia. Only wondering how you and the rest of the M-town fans can come onto a thread with nothing to do about your school and post highlight videos no one wants to see. REALLY?? Videos from a combine. Save that for when the family comes over. You can bore them with that.

  • New York

    Reality,
Monrovia has never been in the same CIF division as Norhoff or Oak Park. You must be thinking of the Valle Vista teams. Regarding Paraclete: Monrovia went to their house and beat them in the playoffs the last time Paraclete was in our division, which was 2009.

You are right that Monrovia is far from the DIVISIONS that you referenced (Inland and Pac-5), but Monrovia is not far in competitive equity from the three teams you listed (Charter Oak, Damien and Bishop Amat). Frankly, where did Damien come from in the benchmarking conversation?

Anyone else want to discuss Monrovia football? Let me know.

  • Clarifiation

Here is how Damien or Claremont or Ayala is in the Monrovia benchmarking conversation: thay ALL beat South Hills. Monrovia did not. The CIF champion Wildcats lost to the last place team from the Sierra League. The Huskies had only 3 wins in all of last season. Monrovia was one of them.

  • Anogola Prison

    @Bulldoggy:

Perhaps you need to go to the initial post by Kennedy Bryant who gave praise to CHAWK aka Chris Hawkins from Rancho who was one of the points of Reference in Arams Lead in and the Video was posted to highlight just how much a Stud CHAWK was at the Nike Combine and the USC commit was a baller. So instead of calling Bulldog I think Ill call you DUMBASS. And the Nike Combine was invite only and I didnt see any Doggies listed in the 389 invites. So go sit your DUMBASS in your Wesco Dogg House.

  • New York

    Clarification,
I appreciate your grasping effort, but throwing Damien into the discussion out of the blue is still a bit odd, but I acknowledge the relevancy you demonstrated. Maybe that comment was from a Damien fan who wants to put them on par with Charter Oak and Amat.

Regarding South Hills and Monrovia: South Hills beat Monrovia 34-30 the week before South Hills beat Los Osos 31-28.

South Hills lost to Colony 30-29, lost to West Covina 35-33 (the week before playing Monrovia), lost to Ayala 49-48.

South Hills was often a field goal away from having a solid season. South Hills was off to a pretty solid season until they ran into Charter Oak who made the Sierra League look like child’s play, but then the Sierra league reps got bounced when they ran into the Baseline teams, which got bounced when they ran into the real Inland teams…Maybe Charter Oak to South Hills’ heart for a couple weeks and other teams benefited from that.

People are on here making themselves look foolish by pounding their chests, my Monrovia people are included but so are Sierra League and Baseline teams as well, because neither of those leagues has proven they can come close to winning a “Big Boy” title but they are always pounding their chests around us MidValley folks.

Remember there is always someone bigger and badder. Be humble.

  • just sayin’

    New York –
It was Aram who threw Damien into the conversation below when he answered “Angola Prison’s” foolishness by writing
“I agree with you, just wish we could see M-Town play Amat, WestCo, Charter Oak or Damien.”

Your last post does a good job making South Hills appear better, as “they were often a field goal away from having a solid season”. That makes the loss to them appear better for Monrovia – but also makes Damien beating them more impressive.

  • just sayin’

New York – you also said “You are right that Monrovia is far from the DIVISIONS that you referenced (Inland and Pac-5), but Monrovia is not far in competitive equity from the three teams you listed”
However, if you’re going to base your “success” on playoff victories, you need to take the DIVISION into consideration – because that’s who you have to beat. The “teams” referrenced were Upland, Santa Margarita, and Vista Murrietta. How does Monrovia fare if they have to face one of those teams in the first or second round – and would your fellow MonroVians still be pounding their chest?

  • Angola Prison

Hell yes Monrovia would still be pounding its chest. As I said earlier Monrovia is the same old town its always been, they win some and they would lose some. Good teams bad teams Monrovia wins more than looses no matter who they play.. Check your history and youd see those are the FN FACTS.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

I “threw” Damien into the convo because I know for a fact that Damien’s coaching staff wants to play Monrovia. Coach Madddox said he would’ve been open to it, but he had already set Monrovia’s schedule.

That’s the kind of game Monrovia should be playing. The timing just wasn’t right.

  • just sayin’

Angola Prison – MHS loses by 4TDs+ to any of those three teams mentioned. Wasn’t it you who said MHS ghas a losing record vs Bishop Amat? Doesn’t that mean they lost more than they won vs them?

  • Angola Prison

    @just sayin;

Im just saying your a clown and you dont know anything of what you speak. Your an also ran and a scrub. Your not old enough to know the history of football in the Southern Section of the CIF. Go beat your helmet agaisnt the ground and tell your friends those are stick marks before I beat the BRAKES off that GATEMOUTH you call a brain.

  • just sayin’ some more

Angola Prison – Now we know why you were in that Angola prison. When you have no comeback of substance – resort to name calling and threats. Now THAT’S the Monrovia we all know!

Trust I can match you step for step on CIF history and the history We are all aware of is the BillyCats were 0-9 in championship games until they got dropped to Division ELEVEN. Yes – that’s ELEVEN out of only THIRTEEN!!! That’s respect from the CIF for you! We are also aware of teh fact you stated below – you’ve lost more than you’ve won against Bishop Amat – making your statement untrue from jumpstreet.

Since you want to twlk “history” we also know that in recent history (the last decade) your Mildcats are ranked number THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN in California by Calpreps. Behind local schools #29 Amat, #55 Upland, #73 CO, #74 Rancho Cucamonga, #78 Chino Hills, #98 South Hills – all in the top 100. You’re only 249 spots, historically, behind the last place team in the Sierra League and if you move UP 40 spots you can catch RIO HONDO PREP!

    Congrats! Scrub!

  • Dumbass

    @Angola Prison

“I’d like to see things from your point of view but I can’t seem to get my self to think like a Window licking Retard!”

Don’t worry about it man, we all understand that being from Monrovia that would be a stretch for you.

  • New York

    Just Sayin and Aram,

As much as I love blogging, I find delayed and written communication to be second-rate compared to sitting in the coffee shop or even talking on the live show, because there is too much confusion at times.

The three teams I was referring to in competitive equity are Damien, Charter Oak and Bishop Amat. I think Monrovia would hang tough in a head to head game with them and would have a competitive series, especially if they were a regular part of our schedule. I was not referring to Vista Murietta, Upland or Sant Margarita. Although, I am certain Monrovia could lose in the same fashion as the other local schools did.

Reading Aram’s explanation that Damien’s coaching staff would like to play Monrovia sheds light onto the Damien reference.

When I wrote that Monrovia is far from the Pac-5 and Inland DIVISIONs, I was really referring to Monrovia as far removed from winning those divisions. We could definitely beat some teams within those divisions.

Frankly, I think Charter Oak, Damien and Bishop Amat are far removed from winning those respective divisions as well. I also feel that Upland’s performance this year demonstrates that even the Baseline is far removed from winning the Inland Division. They did get blown out in the semis.

Time to eat humble pie: All the local public schools need to stop pounding their chests until they beat Charter Oak. Every school needs to remember Bishop Amat’s record against local competition.

Division 1,000,000 Championships and Billycat References: How many of Crespi’s championships have come outside of Division 10?
