CIF State Federated Council enacts new transfer rules. They will be in effect on July 1 …

The controversial new transfer rules for high school athletes that were approved by the Southern Section at last month’s council meeting were passed Friday at the State Federated Council meeting and will be in effect starting July 1.

Aram’s take: So no more “athletically motivated” sit outs. Of course, a player can still not technically transfer for athletically motivated reasons, but you’d have to be an idiot to get dinged for that in your paperwork. Most importantly, no more kids sitting out an entire calendar year or losing their senior seasons. Too late for some, which is sad. But at least others won’t be so effected. I doubt it’s the disaster the doomsdayers say it will be and I also doubt it will be the free-for-all some supporters think it will be.

  • Still won’t read

By the comments you made in your “take” regarding “athletically motivated” transfers it is obvious you still have not read the rule as it written, how it will be implemented and still have no clue on how it will work.

Try reading it and save yourself the embarrassment of spewing more and more false information

Thank goodness he didn’t use the term 30 day sit out rule. Hopefully he now understands that you can’t transfer after playing week 1 or 2 or 3 etc and be eligible 30 days later. Here’s to hoping.

  • Just Curious

Does the new transfer rule affect the hardship waiver? I know under the current rule and up until June 30th immediate athletic eiligibility for varsity sports is granted for change of addresses AND proven hardships such as safety issues involving the student or a valid change of custody (with a court order) of a student of divorced parents.

Will these hardships still be available after July 1st or will the new rule eliminate the hardship waiver altogether? Does anyone know?
