L.A. Times: St. Paul adds another impact transfer …

L.A. Times’ Eric Sondheimer is reporting that St. Paul has picked up another impact transfer in Garfield’s Darrell Cloy, who is a 6-foot-3 sophomore tight end.

The junior-to-be was at Orange Lutheran his freshman season.

Aram’s take: West Covina had better start guarding its Noodles! Nobody is safe! OK, just kidding (not really). This blog has warned you that new Swordsmen coach Elijah Asante isn’t messing around and you’re starting to see it. St. Paul has brought in a pretty nice haul thus far and it may not be over with an entire summer still ahead of us. Don’t anybody get pissed at me for saying this, but I hope Amat and Damien are taking notice. And if you don’t know what that means, then I cannot help you.

That if you give away ‘free’ private school educations, then you too may have some of the areas finest athletes walk your halls for a semester or two, maybe not go to class, but walk the halls.

If you want new uniforms and your administration says no, that ‘if’ they disappear, you will get new ones anyways.

It’s funny how you guys crown some of these players as impact players. I remember Darrell from the last two seasons, and I was not overly impressed with his production when we played them. Aside from a semi-successful running game, they showed little to zero passing success. Remember, that eventhough so many say that we barely got passed Garfield these last two seasons, we did not let them score a single point on us. (23-0 and 14-0). So how impressed should we be when St. Paul brings in this kid. In the end we are a team that has been together for the most part since they were freshman. I really think most doubters will be very surprised at the success Amat will have this coming season. Chemistry plays a big role at this level, and we really have it in this coming team.

  • Noodles to St. Paul?

I heard Noodles wants to go to St. Paul because of its new spread offense and mammoth offensive line. Lock the doors! He’s coming!

  • Old fart in Whittier

Remembering the great teams from El Rancho, St.Paul and Whittier in the 60’s and 70’s the community had something to be proud of. They fought and won primarily with home-grown boys. What has happened? Why ins’t it enough to play for your town and enjoy it? St. Paul may win but who is cheering for you? and fans who are you cheering for? Gimme the Smudgepot. A true rivalry with home grown boys playing for bragging rights. No big name transfers just good football players.

  • NO one wants to go to Bishop

Who in the right mind would go to Bishop? I would go to St Paul, West Co, Monrovia, Chino Hills, or CO before i would go to Bishop. Who wants to lose every year.

Bishop Will not land any high profile transfer

  • When will CIF drop the hammer?

What is Amat and Damien suppose to take notice of, how to illegally recruit in plain site and get away with it? It all looks good right now, right up to the point that St Paul get popped for all there recruiting violations and forfeits the season. I think Amat and Damien will sit back and just wait for the hammer to fall.

  • So I guess Amat and the likes of other schools both private or public never allow transfers into their schools.
Who’s kidding who? Bunch of phonies, bottom line it’s about winning. I can drop the names of some students at various public schools who live outside district boundaries, but no need to hurt these kids or their families. They’re doing well academically.

Good luck to any kid no matter what school they attend

-I think concussion-symptoms is bitter because he feels betrayed. Grow up, life is full of rejections and not getting what you wanted recently won’t be the last; stop pouting like a child; unless you’re a player about to get knocked out of your starting position. In which case I ask you, “How are you going to handle the rest of your life when things don’t go your way and some hot-shot gets hired by your company for a position you so badly wanted?”. Are you going to kick and scream or bust your you-know-what to prove your worth? I know it’s not fair, but life isn’t fair.

-what home grown talent? There hasn’t been homegrown talent to be proud of south of the 60 freeway since in the SGV since _________; except for when St. Paul won the Western Division (III) Conference title in 2007. Everyone’s moved to the IE and OC. But when you talk about homegrown talent, what is homegrown when you’re talking about private schools? They don’t have any boundaries, soooooo…. Do you think Amat, Servite, SJB, OLu, Damien, St. Francis and all the other private schools have only “homegrown” talent? OLu’s running back last season was from Carson… And those campuses are about as diversified as one can be.

-and who’s cheering for St. Paul? You’d be surprised what the fan base is like. And something tells me there’s going to be a renewed excitement now that the old regime is gone (Ancich is a legend!).

Cloy was at ER last spring…. Nothing special….

Concussion Symptoms isn’t bitter. The truth is the truth. Successful private school athletic programs are a huge attraction and marketing tool for coaches searching for – and in need of athletes.

Usually PS’ have better facilities, better equipment, huge community support, and in a lot of cases are on tv more than public schools. If you’re a young kid and those things are important to you (and your parents) and they can afford the tuition, it’s game on. However, if you can’t afford the tuition, but the school offers you a “scholarship” to go there – that is a hard offer to turn down.

That is the state of high school athletics today. Don’t confuse it with being bitter.

  • It will take Cloy the right coaching to develop unlike some schools that lack the right coaches. Perhaps the Ranch with its winning football tradition lacked what this athlete needed. Time will tell. No need to knock any young man.

  • Asante Academy

Elijah Asante is a great recruiter. A few weeks ago he was trying to recruit that JOJO Mathis kid from Upland, and a few kids from Rancho Cucamonga. Asante uses his academy to swindle these kids into being recruited to go to his school. He is what you call a street agent!

  • concussion-symptoms

BITTER?!?! Could not be further from the truth. I think it is funny that the St. Paul faithful are worshiping Asante like they are. The guy will be gone in 3 years and he will leave the program is shambles, but hey, he is giving out ‘free’ private school educations on your dime, so who am I to ‘throw stones’

Good luck with you season St. Paul and remember, its not your record that counts in the end, its how good you look in your new uniforms that matters.

  • St. Paul

I don’t CARE what our record is as long as we Beat the AMAT DOGS and we make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2007. I don’t want to be 7-3 against weak teams and sitting at home during the playoffs! We needed new uniforms for a couple of years now.

  • AMAT 73

Ahh let the rivalry begin. You can be sure we are waiting for the return of the slime . Great to have it going again . Good luck to you this season because with that schedule you will need it .With all those free rides you guys are giving away how are you going to pay the rent on the pit ?????

  • The U

Yes Asante will do whatever it takes to get special athletes to whatever school he is coaching, that is why the City Section was happy to see him leave. Those of you who havent seen the Cloy kid recently are going to be surprised, he spent the off season with working out with B2G and the kid will be a stud…As far as Asante goes Aram you were dead right, WC better lock up noodles because i’m sure he is next on Asante’s list.. We had to lock up Mathis and Rancho had to lock up Goodman or else they would be there as well…

  • The valley

Would like to see who gets brennan Mackenzie from wAlnut.kid is a 6 ‘1 220 pound athletic kid who plays baseball and is looking to play football . He is in 8th grade and is one of the better athletes in the valley .he has amat, south hills and Damien as his choice So far. Another 8th grader to watch for is Isaac ice Gutierrez from Norwalk . • John

(Don’t know if it’s been brought up)
Congratulations to Bishop Amat WR Darren Andrews in getting his first offer from Hawaii!

  • Top Scout

@The Valley: How about E. Tooter Moosefoot. He hails from Pomona pre-school, is potty trained and has a clean record so far. Diamond Ranch and St. Paul are his top choices.
