Aram’s take: The Tribune and Star-News Players of the Year on the same roster. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Wow, gotta love that QB combo of Rivera and Guerrero. The West has gone to the East L.A. well to get some beef after being pushed around badly in recent years. Given the East’s line talent this year, there was a chance that was going to happen again. Although, I don’t know many of the guys from Garfield and Roosevelt and so on, I’ve heard the West won’t be at such a physical disadvantage this year. So then the game should come down to skill. But then again, Rivera and Guerrero are gonna be banking on their WRs getting some separation on a East secondary that has guys like Lonzel Barnett and Herman Akins. Tairen Owens playing is a steal for the West. This is going to be another very good game.

  • QB????

    Lost Already

This team has already lost because they do not have one of the top 3 Senior QB’s this season. Where is Travis Santiago (CO)? Billy Livingston (Covina)? Jake Martinez (Azusa)? The Los Altos & South Hills QB’s??? Really???

  • saladays

    Czarnick? Nelson? Barrientos? Omana?

    what happened to these guys??

  • Guys,

Please remember that some of the players chosen declined to play. I have no clue who they were. Or, some schools (Bishop Amat) simply did not nominate anyone.

  • who picks

Man does sorry los altos coaches pick these all stars?? Barrientos is not picked for RB… come on people he was the work horse for that 9 wins 2 loses for LA PUENTE. but a kid from webb at team that went 4 wins 6 loses. THATS A SHAME…

  • Coaches favorites

The coach is of corse going to pick his favorite QB which is his own even though SANTIAGO AND LIVINGSTON are the two best choices

  • Travis Santiago is playing in another all-star game the following day in Arizona.

Not sure about Billy The Kid.

  • Santiago and Nelson playing in AZ

CO QB Santiago and Nelson from Wilson will be in AZ that same weekend playing in the So Cal all stars against the AZ all stars in Phoenix, its a 5 day thing for the players so they arent available

Four (4) keys players from Pasadena HS…Go Bulldogs!

    Class of ’88

  • Lancelot

Any reason that Hag’s didn’t even nominate a player? It’s not like they would be jeopardized for his upcoming season if they played? What gives?

  • AMAT 73

How did Adam Sanchez get on this list if AMAT did not nominate anyone ???? What is the process to make this team seeing as there is no mention of that .

  • I’m gonna tell you guys what I’ve heard and believe to be true. I will not name names, but I was told that Bishop Amat did not nominate anyone. Coach Hagerty was called by several committee members about this and when he finally did respond asked that he be sent the nomination forms again. Once again, they were sent and nothing was returned.

Sanchez got in because one of the board members couldn’t believe this had happened and is a friend of Sanchez’s family member and nominated Sanchez himself after hearing he would be interested in playing. The rest is history …

  • Fire Hagerty

Good old Hag’s, he hates all-star games, combines and just about anything football related that he can’t control.

  • Lancelot

Wow. C’mon Hagerty, it would be nice to see at least a little effort for the kids, wouldn’t it?

  • Joke

Tibbs, Moralas, and Virnala have no business on this team. This Los Altos team finished 4th in league 3-3, and they got as many kids on the team as West Covina the division champs.

Nice to see two players from AZUSA. ERIC PEREZ, Good linebacker and I hope you continue to play, even at Citrus College. Believe or not there’s a lot of players from last season that are playing at the next level but the most important thing is, that the school is paying for your tuition. Eric I watched you play in the playoffs against Valley Christian and you played well.

Desmond Reed, hope to see you out there on the field also and you have some moves! Continue to work hard and good luck to you and hope to hear about your name somewhere playing, because just that name sounds good!

  • trojan fan

Mr. Aram hit it on the head on this one. Its a shame that Coach Hagerty refuses to do anything to help any of his ex-players to get to the next level. Word has it that frosh. and sophs. are treated very well but once you get to be jrs. and srs. your on your own, as was the case with the lone Bishop Amat player. The very least that you could do for these guys that went to battle for you for four years is help them by getting a little reward and thanks for a great career. I have been associated with the Hall of Fame Game for the last 12 years and can say that it is very true about the players not being nominated very sad to say the least.

  • green pastures aka “el gato monte”

This is very sad and very bad press for Bishop. Players are already starting to stay local. I would not be surprised if you see more transfers out. I really think we are seeing the last days of BA as the SGV power. This is a very pivotal season. If BA loses 2 of the 3 games vs sgv opponents, that just might shut the door on their storied history as a SGV Power. Schools like Chino Hills, Damien, Wesco, Monrovia, Charter Oak, and St Paul, are making huge strides and closing the gap. A coach who is not getting his players to next level and not winning, will almost ruin any program. Especially a program where parents pay to see their kid play the best, and become the best.

  • Valley guy

is this a senior graduating class Allstar game or can juniors be nominated?

  • Showboat

Aram,By nominating players from Garfield and Roosevelt, other bonafide players will be denied. I think we should stick with payers from local areas.

I am a big fan of coach O from SG but he has his work cut out for him. I don’t see how the West can stop the East’s running game. If anyone can figure it out, it will be coach O. Getting his team to the championship game last year is proof.
