South Hills size …

Lake Aiono (left) and Riley Deen (right).

Since there was discussion of South Hills’ size taking place on two previous threads, I figured I’d throw up a pic.

Lake Aiono goes 285 lbs. and Riley Deen 270.

  • Disappointed Dawg

Doesn’t matter what size these two are, Coach Fuzz will play them on both sides of the ball and they will be out of gas by halftime.

  • huskie

    Aram,
Your such a knucklehead!!!!!! You just don”t get it? if you want to see size go down to Rancho Santa Margarita.

  • Amat Dad

Actually I was at the passing scrimmage yesterday and I was impressed with SH’s line. Their boys seem pretty athletic in addition to having size. I agree with Dawg in that the boys were playing both offense and defense, and that is very tough to do. Who knows how well they will hold up during the season. But they do have very good size, nd that alone will help them compete if their skill players are decent.

  • The Pit

You know the parents shop at Costco every week…I bet these boys can eat. No scraps on their table, it’s all gone.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

Go down to Rancho Santa Margarita, view their size and then what? File a story for the OC Register? Post a blog post on the Register’s blog?

I work for the SGV TRIBUNE. I DON’T COVER SANTA MARGARITA. Who’s the idiot?

  • ordinary football fan

Lak’e is also a great HWY wrestler, very flexible and mobile. That kid can flat out hit for his size. Can’t wait to see him play smash mouth football.

  • sgv scouting

Aram — The correct spelling for Riley is Riley Deen… without the e…

  • New York

I was very impressed with these kids last year. 56 had a great motor. As a former hawg, I enjoyed watching. They were the difference makers, wearing down our defense when our offense was not clicking.

  • DHS Fan

Lak’e is a good wrestler, however the Damien HWY Sanchez beat him in the Cif championships in San Luis Obisbo this last season Sanchez was only a Freshmen at the time. Sanchez is a beast , watch for this kid I’am sure he will be starting for Damien at DE this season as a Soph (6’3 235).

  • BraveDad

Arum, why is it you use the area coverage card sooooo to you’re conveniance? I seem to recall you covered the transfer of an OLu kid a few weeks ago because it gave you a chance to bash Amat. But anytime you get backed into a corner regarding schools outside your so called coverage area you make pansy azz comments like the one below. Darn you are funny and make it so easy for people to see how week you are as a so called journalist. Keep up the comedy biggens.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    Brave Dad,

I will pick and chose when I venture to put something on this blog from outside the area and determine whatever it relevance it has.

And FYI, I consider myself to be a blogger, first and foremost. Whatever happens after that is gravy. With over 5,500 hits per day, something tells me everything’s working out just fine.

After all, guys like you who cry and complain and whine (all for lack of a more inappropriate term) STILL come here EVERY DAY. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m doing something right.

  • Greenie Cat in the pastures

If you want to talk out of area, but still affects the SGV…Paramount will have the biggist line in the south east. They are as big as Santa Margarita. Not better but huge…

  • Bulldogs LiNe

What about the West Covina OLine?

    Hahahahah…

  • Size Isn’t Everything..

For the last 2 years South hills Has had by far the biggest line in the Sierra League, and where did that get them? The were slow and out of shape. Before you say “Well, they didn’t have any skill guys” . Canada, Hernandez, Hart???? 3 of the best athletes in the league. Size is way over rated in HS football. If you don’t believe me, look at DeLaSalle. Most of their linemen are in the 220-230 range. I would rather have a 6’2 240 kid who is athletic and can move than a 6’7″ 310 guy who just takes up space. I have watched Chino Hills for years, Besides last year (Palafox & Enriquez), they average about 230 across the line and every year they have 3-4 first team all league linemen. I don’t see Amat or CO with huge linemen either.

I finally got my lazy butt over to Charter Oak to watch Chino Hills vs. CO. I have no horse in this race but wanted to see what all the talk was about. I was impressed as both squads appeared to be pretty good. I was not that impressed with the QB from Chino Hills. He may have just had a bad day or perhaps CO’s defense held it’s ground. Overall, CO seem to have the better athletes and won the scrimmage 5-2 (I believe) CO’s receivers and defense were superior to those of Chino Hills. CO’s QB’s seemed to be coached up although with those receivers, just about any QB in the Valley could look good. It should be one heck of of game in the fall once the pads come on.

  • Overrated!

    WillieGH-

I couldn’t agree any more. I also was an unbias observer at the CH/CO 7on7 and was not impressed with the CH Quarterback. I have followed this blog for the past couple of months and heard how much Aram thought of this kid and thought I’d check him out myself. Boy was I disappointed! Is that the transfer kid? If it is, then this kid is way overrated! He did not look sharp at all. He rarely put the ball on his receivers, infact his receivers bailed him out of many off target throws. Kids have bad days, but this is 7on7, I would hate to see his happy feet when Sweet Lou dials up a nasty blitz with those MEN he has playing linebacker. After what I saw, CO will handle CH in the Fall. I haven’t seen Damien yet so I can’t call out a league title for the Huskies at this point.

  • New York

    Size Isn’t Everything..

I agree with a lot of your post, especially the points about DLS as well as the type of linemen who are most successful in high school.

However, these two kids in the picture are football players. They are not sloppy players with two left feet. These guys got it done last year.

  • http://l Green pastures aka “El Gato Monte”

Once you get to college they have a collection of Big guys who can do the same thing as DLS lineman. In high school most teams may be lucky to have one legit D1 lineman with size and agility,in any given year. These two should get picked up by a D1 program.

  • FootballFan

South Hills D-Line got through Monrovia’s line so easily, as for Amat’s also. Bishop Had the Better O-line over Monrovia. Just thinking about it while watched the trio go at it, South Hills DID NOT BLITZ! I thought they were but it was all the DOWN LINEMAN! Whereas Bishop had all the stunts in the world that won’t be used in a game most likely. Same thing for Monrovia. South Hills is going to come out on top again against Monrovia, but this time with more ease and Defense.

  • WrestlerFanAtic

Aiono beat the Damien HWT 2 times before CIF, Not just beat, Pinned in 1st period. I heard from a little birdie that the match before Damien and SH HWTs wrestled, Aiono hurt his shoulder. Don’t know if its true but I may believe it due to the fact he murdered him before.

  • FootballFan

First of all, Lake played both ways and did great, he was a monster on both sides and you don’t see that a lot. I was watching the 11-on-11 at Amat, he was getting through Amat’s and Monrovia’s line no problem. Along with Deen and the other backups. These two are athletic. The only reason why the SH line has to play both ways is because of depth. The whole Sierra League has a full offense and a full defensive line. Aiono beat up CH’s line GOING BOTH WAYS! Imagine the damage if he played fully defense or offense. Riley is going to be a monster with size. also Aiono. I’m looking forward to see the Huskies shut some mouths up!

Aiono also got League champ by beating Sanchez twice(both Pins) but came up short because of an injury.

  • bulldogs

they cant recruit no more so yeah south hills will still be our doormat. keep dreaming u wittoe perritos from sea to shining sea WE ARE W-C!

  • What Game Were You Watching?

    Footballfan,
“Aiono beat up CH’s line GOING BOTH WAYS! Imagine the damage if he played fully defense or offense.”

What game did you watch??? I just watched the game from last year. Aino was dominated on bot sides of the ball. He stands up right out of his stance on D and was DOMINATED by Enriquez and Palafox from CH. He was driven back almost every play! On offense, he is very slow out of his stance and doesn’t move his feet. The blitzing LB’s blew right by him. and he couldn’t reach his blocks at the 2nd level He is a big kid and has potential. However, he needs lots of work on his footwork and technique.

  • FootballFan

    What game were you watching?

Aiono was drivin back a couple times but they did not dominate Aiono. LB did not fly by 56 either. Enriquez did great but Aiono had his plays also. That was a great matchup but Enriquez did not DOMINATE.

  • what game were you watching? #2

    @ Football fan

SH was dominated from the get go.They got there asses handed to em by CH on that rainy night in the SVG.SH line, offense or defense was weak, we scored at will.and then we put in a freshmen and some sophs and it didnt get any better.so really what game were you watching, maybe it was when you played ayala? there from CH too.

  • Green pastures aka “El Gato Monte”

    Hey Football Fan,

Why does everyone forget Monrovia beat south hills at home two years ago. Last season, Monrovia lost year by 4 pts, due to a Jamie Canada 100 yard kick return, and Jamie Canada’s/Harts extra ordinary running ability at the Wildcat position. Monrovia was also missing McCarthy that game. I am sure their line will be strong and play well, but we know they don’t have backs and WR’s like last season. Plus they are a inland Div 2 team…they should have a big line. However Monrovia wins this game.

    Hey Bulldogs

Call us when you start playing in a tougher Division! In the meantime sit down, shut up and enjoy your false sense of success in Divison 7 while beating up teams from Division 11! You dam well know if CO and SH was there we would kick your azz every year!

    Go Huskies!

Green pastures – you Monrovia guys are funny. kings of excuses : “lost by 4, 100 yard kick return, missing McCarthy , blah, blah, blah.” But now you’re predicting running the table, a bowl berth, and being able to compete at the highest level…
But Amat loses in league by 1 score to Alemany, Notre Dame, or Loyola without Rio, get beat by #1 in the nation LBPoly on 4th and 24 in the final minute and all of a sudden “a lost is a lost” and they don’t belong in the Serra or Pac 5 and should get dropped to the Western Division.
    Absolutely fascinating

  • Greenie…

yeah but still…South hills is D2 Monrovia D11

Bishop Amat has been D1 for 50 years… Alemany has been D1 for 2…

  • Bulldogs have bite

    No Competition,

With victories over Glendora and South Hills over the last two years, we have more D2 victories than South Hills or Glendora since 2010. Speaking of 2010, Glendora beat Charter Oak 28-21 and then West Covina defeated Glendora 33-28 three weeks later. Glendora started that season 4-1 until San Diego State bound QB Chad Jeffries suffered a season ending injury. They had a three game winning streak beating CO, a Nick Bueno/McCarthy led Monrovia championship squad and Canyon in Anaheim before losing to us lowly D7 Bulldogs!

Our false sense of success must of came from beating South Hills, a team you say would have beaten us, which is hilarious since we have beat them them 4 of the last 6 meetings including both years they were D2 and we won the Southeast Division. Or maybe because we can compete with and beat teams that beat Charter Oak.

Maybe somebody has a false sense of superiority because they think being D2 automatically makes them better than anybody in a division lower than them. Oaks Christian, St. Bonnies and Westlake were D3 the last couple of years, I suppose CO and South Hills can beat them right? I’m done now and I think I’ve made my point using actual facts and not blind hate, please have another sip of your hater-aide.

  • Bulldog4Life

    @ No Competition-
nice to finally see the husky faithful on blogs lol.. thats very rare.. your D2 huskies would kick our “azzes” every year, but who won the last 2 years???? lol your just hating cuz yall got ur “azzes” kicked in back to back years
if u ask me, thats pretty pathetic that a “D2″ team is losing to a D7 team

  • word on Cameron

    Bulldog,

Who’s azz did you kick last year? You won by 2 points only because south hills had 3 unlucky turnovers in your endzone.

    Point proven

  • time will tell

Greenie – if I remember, Alemany has been in D1 before, in Amats league, got dropped and moved back up under the present coach. Make no mistake, the drop did not help them improve – the new coach and recruiting budget has helped. It’s a cycle for them – like everyone else.
