PrepXtra Tuesday: Elijah Asante, Gladstone’s Albert Sanchez and Aram and Fred argue about Signgate between El Monte and Rosemead …

  • CLASS ACT!

    Does Asante sound like such a bad person that he deserved to get the ax six games into his first season? St. Paul is not your typical Catholic private school. Anyone they hire who is not considered a “St. Paul Guy” doesn’t know what they are getting themselves into.

  • JJimenez

    It’s done and over with but even if the quote wasn’t out of content the issue was the word play and bold facing of certain words to make it seem like a negative comment. More power to ElMo and their group of seniors/players for a chance at winning league, but still think it was bush league of the coaches.

    Good lookin’ out Aram, and Fred, “You’re an idiot” <–(BOLD FACE) You can quote me on that…or not.

    !!!FEAR THE MEAD!!!WAR PANTHERS!!!

  • 12th man

    Aram,
    Who’s breaking the story 1st? I’m hearing reports that Scoby is at Cathedral…Is this matter still confedential? I’m also hearing reports about being academic eligible?

  • SGVprepfan

    @ 12th Man
    Prep reporters are waiting for conformation from TMZ so they don’t have to make phone calls.

  • Do your research

    Amazing to me that you all consider yourselves to be sports journalists. How embarrassing for you all to broadcast yourselves on the Internet looking like a bunch of giggling high school mean girls. Just curious, have any of you heard of a coach named Bob Ladouceur? Oh that’s right, you do know who he is because you cover high school football, especially big powerhouse programs like De La Salle. I think you should get on your cellphones and schedule an interview with Coach Ladouceur. Maybe he can enlighten you bafoons on why he doesn’t allow single digit numbers in his football program. While your at it, ask him how he is able to get those “talented Popwarner players who only wear numbers 1-9″ into his program. My guess is that he actually coaches his team, prepares them for the season and doesn’t rely on one player to carry the team. I guess De La Salle is another one of the “outdated programs” that doesnt realize that kids today want to wear single digits. There are plenty of other high school football programs in California that don’t allow single digit numbers but I think you can research those on your own. By the way, single digits did exist on St. Paul’s football team this season and that is not what the issue was for the school. Maybe if you stopped giving one sided interviews you would learn the truth. But that would mean you were responsible journalists and from what I can read, you enjoy the gossip and the rumors. I find it interesting that you laugh about the tradition of single digits, but I didn’t see you laughing in the first interview where Coach Asante shared with you his tradition of team Virtues. Didn’t you find it funny that a coach would ask his players to memorize and recite those virtues at a moments notice? Of course you didnt because you showed respect for his traditions as did our team. I guess that just shows the hypocrisy of your journalistic reporting. The St. Paul football players bought into that tradition and took the time to memorize his virtues. Now why would a group of young men take the time to memorize all of that stuff if they didn’t buy into this program? I will tell you why, because they are respectful young men who believe in each other and believe in tradition, even new traditions. Always remember, there are three sides to every story: their side, our side and then there’s the truth. What side do you stand for?

  • THE TRUTH and Nothing But

    Do your research,
    We want the truth so whoever you think has it I am sure Fred and Aram will be more than happy to put them on. Right now, I will settle for just their side. If anyone from St. Paul’s administration will like to pick up the phone we are more than willing to hear their side. But I do agree with you, I think the story about clashing of traditions over single digit number and spat are just smoke and mirrors. A group of unhappy parents over their kids playing time is what led to Asante’s firing, everything else is just a cover up.

  • Rick O’Connor

    You aren’t going to hear from the St. Paul administration on the firing of Coach Asante because it’s a personnel issue and against the law for them to reveal the reasons. You should know that.

  • Bean Counter

    The Problem and the TRUTH is, St Paul has no talent in Football,other than that, St Paul has a great group of kids,you are witnessing the fork in the road shall we say,its clear St Paul cant hang in the Div they are in,they must drop into a lower a Div ,and build up Enrollment.I think this something we can all agree on .

  • HIPAA

    Oh oh looks like somebody just violated confidentiality rights of a minor. All this for a story nice job gentleman. Asante while you’re out there trying to plug yourself in for a job put into consideration the garbage that comes out of your mouth.

  • Amat Dad

    I just heard the interview and heard the same thing, disclosure rights were violated unless he has a written affidavit from the state. Man this guy just might’ve sealed his fate. Is he the legal guardian? If not who is?

  • Jefe

    Signgate is the dumbest, most non-news worthy story of the sgv high school football season so far.

    Can’t believe Aram & the guys spent more than a minute discussing it.

  • The Pit

    thaxs aram for deleting my comment but that was the truth…

  • The Pit

    COACH UR A LITTLE …YOU SPENT MORE TIME PICKING LINT OFF YOUR SUIT THAN YOU DID ON THE PRACTICE FIELD,WHO TEXTS EVERY 5 MINS. WHEN UR RUNNING A PRACTICE…THATS BULLSHIT, YOU GOT EVERYONE FOOLED, THAT UR THE VICTIM HERE…

    YOU DID A GREAT INJUSTICE TO THE BOYS…YOU DIDN’T PREPARE THEM TO PLAY SERVITE , AMAT , MATER DEI…EVEN FUCN la mirada kicked are azzzz. COACH DO YOU THINK THEY RAN A 3 DAY HELLWEEK HELL NO…MAN I WISH I CAN REALLY TELL U GUYS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED , BUT THEN SP WOULD LOOK EVEN MORE REDICULIOUS FOR HIRING THIS CLOWN. ” I GOT MY OWN FLAV OF DOING THINGS”

    WHAT WAS SP ADMIN THINKING!!!

  • SMH SP ALUM

    @ The PIT

    WHAT HAPPENED?? who cares SP is already the laughing stock.

  • FredJ

    Love how people come on here saying Asante violated CIF rules. As far as I know, all of St. Paul’s transfers were cleared by CIF. St. Paul’s administrators and athletic department endorsed everything Asante was doing, otherwise they wouldn’t of let it happen. If you’re upset with how Asante was building the program, you should be as upset with St. Paul for endorsing it.

    With the type of schedule St. Paul had, it was no surprise they started the way they did. Certainly you don’t fire someone six games into the season based on results do you? Or did St. Paul?

    This is mostly about parents, the type that come on here and call people like Aram and I giggling girls and bafoons, then in the following paragraphs use words like, “respect” to make their point. It’s about commenters like “The Pit” who hurl insult after insult. What a great example you’re for the school? At least Asante, a week after being fired, spoke with us and wished nothing but the best for St. Paul. He admitted there were philosophical differences and left it at that. He didn’t use the opportunity to say what he really wanted to say, he took the high road. That’s class, and some of you can’t stand it. Poor you.

    Why some of you who preach so loudly about respect can’t make a point without insulting someone is beyond me.

    Of course, we would love both sides to this story, but the administrators never talk, they never explain, they leave it up to us to find people that will talk, and for you and I to speculate.

    I invite any parent of the football team who has something to say about Asante, St. Paul, or Aram and I to come on the show and discuss it like adults. We would love to hear your side. My guess is, you’ll just fire back with more name calling.

    Before the season started I said this was a sink or swim situation. When you invite a lot of transfers that take spots from returning players, you’re going to hear it from a lot of parents if you don’t win. That seems like the case here.

    This isn’t about what number you wear or the tradition, this is about who’s playing and who’s not. Parents can’t stay out of the way and let coaches coach.

  • Blogger

    Who is mad about the transfers? I dont think anyone here has stated that. Transfers happen all the time and everywhere. Thats not the issue at hand with any of this.

  • THE TRUTH and Nothing But

    @FredJ,
    Amen brother and that’s the whole truth and nothing but… Every one of the stone throwers at St. Paul lives in a glass house, you could really learn a thing or two about showing some class from Asante.

    @Bean Counter,
    Couldn’t agree with you more on the next step St. Paul should take. What do you think, in a private school league with the likes of Whittier Christian and Salesian?

    @Rick O’Connor,
    The administration should stand up for themselves if they think Asante is mis-representing the situation. Asante certainly hasn’t shied away from talking to Aram and Fred, he will also make an appearance tonight on TWC.

    @The PIT,
    No one represents the slimes better than you.

  • Rick O’Connor

    @ The Truth,
    There are laws regarding disclosing employment records, including dismissal from employment. The school administration is not going to put itself in jeopardy. That’s the bottom line.

  • THE TRUTH and Nothing But

    @Rick O’Connor,
    Yes, I forgot, St. Paul is own by the Archdiocese and the administration wouldn’t dare ask “how high?” unless they were ordered to “JUMP!”

  • SMH SP ALUM

    So glad my son goes to Amat!!

  • amat parent

    You can bet on it. Administration at Amat will not take Scoby.

  • what would casey do?

    well casey morales got what he wanted…another head coach position at st paul even though hes a poor ad and head baseball coach. with the “st paul guy” all star staff they should kick cathedrals butts. Im looking forward to seeing st paul win but i wonder how coach mo will handle the qb situation that asante botched up and ended up costing him his job.

    “This isn’t about what number you wear or the tradition, this is about who’s playing and who’s not.”

    Man, that is so spot on. Mommy and Daddy just can’t see that little whoever is NOT the next superstar. He’s just not. Let him fight for his spot and encourage him to be the best (insert position here) he can be. If you’re not happy with little whoever’s playing time, what are you doing about it? How about momy and daddy get their fat duffs off that Barkalounger in the offseason and go out and help your kid get better, push him to train harder, and if he refuses, well, then you know exactly why he’s not playing.

    Here’s a clue for you parents that wonder why your kid is not playing; if he would rather be playing (insert gaming console here) or hanging out with his friends than making himself better that’s a pretty good indication you want it more than your kid does. If that’s that case, let them be part of the team and just have fun.

  • Spot on

    The same can apply for Damien, unfortunately.

  • SP Dad

    I hate to admit that the team looks worse since Coach Mo took over. Choose a QB for gods sake! Both QB’s are bad. 13 is an INT waiting to happen and 15 is ROBOSACK. The offense looks like Ancich 1975 throwback. Pro Set with fullback and tight end. This is 2012 have you heard of the SPREAD? The Special teams is horrible giving up TD’s almost every game. The defense gives up 63 points OMG! Come on man, you guys are St. Paul Guys it supposed to get better not WORSE.
