UPDATED: Kurt Scoby leaves Alemany … something tells me he’ll be back in the SGV soon …

Former Charter Oak, Duarte, St. Paul, Cathedral and now Alemany running back Kurt Scoby has left Alemany just months after enrolling following a shortened junior season at St. Paul. The story was first reported by Fox Sports analyst Greg Biggins and confirmed today by Eric Sondheimer of the L.A. Times.

Scoby never actually played in a game for Duarte, Cathedral or Alemany.

Here are some options/facts/opinions:

– Scoby has already used his sit-out period

– Monrovia should be the favorite of any SGV team to land him

– Scoby and many of his Duarte Hawks teammates (several at M-Town now) will be seniors next season

– The “follow your coach” rule is applicable to any head coach or assistant coach an athlete played for in the PAST 24 months

– Scoby CAN follow Elijah Asante to Santa Margarita with a valid change of residence

– Scoby can play anywhere with a valid change of residence

– The “Scoby was sighted at Amat today” posts are garbage. It means nothing. His girlfriend goes to Amat

– Scoby’s biggest hurdle in EVER playing a down of HS football again is making sure he’s academically eligible

This has become a complete joke.

Should have stayed put at CO. Last year’s team would have had a good run in the playoffs IMHO. Just a damn shame.

  • let ‘em play

With the season still a little less than six months away Scoby has plenty of time to transfer a couple of more times. Amazing.

It’s Obvious his parents are behind this and have totally ruin this kids reputation …They signed him in and out of all these school…He should have just went to Mtown Rush for a state record….and earn his D-1 scholly just like all his Dhawks teammates. He was part of a special class of kids who were bound for college no matter what school they went to..if you are good, you are good, no situation is going to be perfect..Especially Private school tuition along with commute times and transport cost.. When gas is $5 a gallon…not too many parents are going t want to fill up that tank and drive everywhere all the time….stay local or go to one school, and commit. This could really make a college coach think twice….as good as he is, he should know you have to stick with a school. I still wish him the best for his senior year.

What a joke. If it’s his parents doing this, they should be tarred and feathered. If it’s him… CIF should make an example of him.

  • Valley Athletics

Where does he live? If he lives anywhere east of the 605 I can see how tough it was for him driving in that 210 traffic every day . Hope he gets to play his senior year and everything works out for him .

  • RO

Kurt is a good and very respectful young man. He has a foster mother who, I’m afraid, has not done well by him. I hope, only, the best for him.

Scoby, come to La Puente. Morrison needs you.

  • Not Since 1995

At what point does it become this numb nut’s fault…?
At what point do schools, administrators, coaches say “enough”… and walk away from this guy…? He’s not a kid anymore. These moves from school to school are calculated. Badly calculated, but nonethless…calculated…!
What kind of person are you when you accept no responsibility, no maturity, and no respect for the school(s) that are giving you a third, fourth…Eleventh chance…? Academically eligible…? Heh…Heh…! Please…!
And what about the SGV reporters…! These sad saps drop their donuts to type about where this guy is now going…! Which end is the dog and which end is the tail…?
Move on Aram…many greater stories and many more deserving young men out here in the SGV that deserve this rags attention….! Just need to get off of your A**, drop the donut, and find them…!

    Not In 2013 Either….

      Not Since,

Don’t ever tell me to drop the donut. Don’t you ever do it!

Certainly someone of Coach Maddox’s high character would be able to provide life lessons and guidance to Scoby, or any other student on campus. I hope Mr. Scoby is able to settle somewhere soon and focus on school work ASAP. As an outside observer, though, I would suggest going back to Charter Oak. That is a great program and it would allow Scoby to finish where he began and hopefully regain some semblance of stability.

New york…There are several coaches on the Monrovia staff who were all Kurt’s Youth football Head Coaches at one point throughout his stellar Career with DHawks…They wanted him to go to Mtown, but he chose CO. Not once did they treat him any different. They even went to his games at CO when Mtown was not playing. They supported him. It’s no surprise that Finishing at Mtown is a no brainer…His need for support outweighed his need to play in the Inland vs Midvalley. He was going to get attention no matter where he went. He was that good.

Wherever he ends up, I hope it is soon so he can attempt to salvage his transcripts and not miss out on a year of football. We both know how preciously few years we have the opportunity to play. Playing football, within a well structured and disciplined environment, can really help kids develop character needed for success.

          Well Said!!!

  • Lupe

This is a complete joke, stop writing about this kid until he is IN pads UNDER the lights.

  • Lance R

Well he should try to end his senior season on a positive note both on the field and in the classroom. If not at Amat do it somewhere and get to school already. It is student first athlete second and sometimes these kids have it the wrong way around, especially the talented ones like this one in Scoby. You know there are lots of H.S. athletes like this who never make it because of classroom and attendance problems. They feel they are NFL material and everyone must cater to them. This kid needs to get in school already and make that his number one priority right now….Sorry to say this but I hope it does not turn out as a case of a drop out telling his war stories of the football field on a bar stool to anyone that will listen.

  • justin time

Where is CIF in all this?? Why is there no limit on a transfer if they are obviously not moving!! What are his parents doing? Where is the stability? This should be a HUGE RED FLAG to all D-1 schools!!!

  • Lupe

Just a question. Is it legal for a high school coach to say ” NO ” to a kid who wants to try out? Not cut a kid, but before even trying out???
