La Mirada is becomig the Oregon of the local area … Mats will wear FIVE different pants this season …

La Mirada will wear five different pairs of game pants this season as part of its uniform, according to a Tweet on Tuesday by head coach Mike Moschetti.

Kinda crazy that this level of uniform change has come to high school football already. We see it plenty in college, with Oregon being the most popular. And for whatever reason the kids get a major kick out of this.

As I’ve always said, if it’s done in the pros and then college, it’s always only a matter of time before it’s done in HS.

Aram’s take: Have I got you sick of La Mirada football yet? No? Good. Plenty more to come.

  • GP AKA Green Machine

Are they going to wear any of these pants in the South East Title Game? We have heard all but what they are going to do in the South East Title game.

    • Jose Oquendo

      What does “Becomig” mean?

  • Jastrab

I always wondered what the rule was for H.S football uniforms. With Amat could they wear have a third uniform that is all yellow for example away. I assume, no, but does the CIF book say only white for away? I think back on Notre Dame at home going from blue to green, but in H.S. can you change tops at halftime to another home color…say your second color if you have one.

I still remember that writeup that you guys did back in March about them having 3 or 4 different seasons for their football. One being recruiting ( Getting their guys into college ). I have become a HUGE Mike Moschetti / La Mirada fan since then. Every player and coach in the valley should read that article and watch the La Mirada pride video to see how it should be done. Be like Mike.

    • New York

I am also a huge fan of coaches and programs that are so enthusiastic like these guys. I just wonder, though, if there is a fatigue factor once they get to the playoffs. When do they take any time off?

      • Colt74

I’m not a fan of twitter but I follow coach M and LM. You would be amazed at the ex LM players that log on and leave a blurb about their pride and learning’s from their time there. I am in awe of vibe I see coming from that program.

  • AramT

I can’t wait for Charter Oak to get into the Southeast Division. I wanna see where they fit in. There are some excellent programs in there now with the SGV League. Downey’s studs will be seniors in 2014. Dillman at La Mirada will be a senior. Noodles and Snoop Jr. will be seniors. Going to be an incredible division.

    • Bulldog way

Newsflash – unless Noodles transfers back into WestCo along with Snoop’s kid you won’t be seeing them playing in the Southeas in 2014. Then again, there’s no guarantee that the Hacienda or La Mirada’s league is going to be in the Southeast either after CIFSS re-divisions next year.

      • Bulldog way

Also, almost every high school team can run with multiple colored uni’s – it just depends on how far back into the old uni bend they want to reach. Heck, I bet if we wanted to at WestCo we could probably dust off some old boxes full of light blue and dark blue uni’s. Now if LM has multiple helmets with different colors, then I’ll be impressed.

      • AramT

Newsflash – They’re in the same grade. At worst, Noodles misses his junior year and is back for his senior … at which point they play together. Drop your grudge against this kid. It’s not very becoming of you.

        • Bulldog way

You might want to slow down a bit and re-read what I wrote. You were speaking of the Southeast in 2014 and how great it’s going to be to see all these kids and teams in that division. Dbar (where Noodles and Snoop Jr attend school) won’t be playing in the Hacienda and most likely not in the Southeast in 2014. In case you forgot, Dbar was moved to the Sierra League which most likely will not be in the Southeast. And where exactly did I take a dig at Noodles or speak of his eligibility?

          • AramT

OK, well I’m going on the notion that the Sierra will be in the Southeast. Maybe I know too much or too little.

          • Bulldog way

Well if the Sierra moves down to the Southeast then someone in the Southeast is moving out. And because the Sierra came in from up above then your probably looking at a league from the Southeast moving in an upward direction. The candidates would include the Hacienda, Del Rio (LM’s League) or the SGV (Downey’s League), any way you look at it the Southeast won’t be the Division that you are envisioning.

          • AramT

I think the Pacific League is leaving and going to the Mid-Valley.

          • 626

I agree. Only Muir has been to the Southeast semis in the 5 years of the division, and the league as a whole has performed dismally. The combined record of the Pacific in the SE is 10-19. Even though the schools’ populations are big compared to the Mid-Valley Div. (except for Muir), the schools would fit perfectly there and make the division a bit tougher. Just a bit though. Here are the SE playoff records for the PL teams the last 5 years (how in the world has Burroughs gone 1-3 in this division!?!?):

            Muir 4-5

            CV 2-3

            Arcadia 1-3

            Pasadena 1-1

            Burroughs 1-3

            Burbank 1-4

So Muir and CV (25% of the PL) own 6 of the 10 PL victories (60% of the wins). SMH. Mid-Valley, here they come.

          • New York

This is interesting. What is La Mirada’s Southeast playoff record since getting realigned in. Remember that year that Muir dismantled La Mirada?

          • 626

LM is 3-3 in the 3 years they’ve been in the division.

          • AramT

What you’ll need to do is add up the record of the Pacific League in the Southeast Div. for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. That’s ALL CIF considers when it does re-divisioning. Nothing further back than THE PAST TWO YEARS … in 2012, the Pacific was 1-2. And the strength of the league will be even worse this year. More struggles and their will be a push to get them out. The Sierra is the natural replacement.

          • 626

Got it. Either way, I think the Pacific is out as well. Only Muir has proven to be somewhat competitive in the SE and the league should drop to the Mid-Valley. And it’ll make the Mid-Valley a slightly better and more interesting division.

And a COMPLETE stretch here, but maybe combining the RHL and the Pacific in the same football division might go a long way in combining the two leagues into a conference during the next re-leaguing cycle. But that’s a different topic…

          • New York

Too bad that it would be whole-sale league movements, rather than moving certain teams across leagues.

          • AramT

With the news today of the Sierra League being renamed the Palomares League beginning in 2014, I think you can now see what I mean about the Sierra/Palomares likely being in the Southeast Div. with the Hacienda.

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

CO will be able to mail it in until the semi-finals in Football. They got deep playoff runs gift wrapped courtesy of the schmucks at CIF.

    • big daddy

It won’t be that great of a division. Downey has 1 guy who is decent at best. He is no Jabarri Ruffin. Charter Oak should own it. I thought Snoopy jr was going to Bosco?

  • reality

I prefer staying with your own traditional colors and establish continuity in your uniforms. Yankee pinstripes, Notre Dame blue and gold etc. They make old look darn good. I wish the Rams would wear their old mustard color away unis. Those were nice with the bighorn helmets.

    • GP AKA Green Machine

Yeah, TC has the sick Helmets very nice Uniforms too….The O C register did a nice piece on Ranking the Uniforms in OC. If I was to Rank a team for he best unis…I would have to say…

      #1.La Puente
      #2. Covina Black Unis
      #3 Diamond Bar Home Unis
      #4 Bishop Amat Home Unis
      #5 La Mirada Home Unis
#6 Bonita with the brown Pants
      #7 Glendora Home Unis
      #8 St Paul away Unis
      #9 Maranatha Home Unis
#10 Rio Hondo Prep black out..

      • Not So Fast My Friend

GP, you have a link to that article?

  • Lupe

I’m not a fan of a bunch of different uni’s, I’m sure the kids will absolutely love them. I remember way back in the day when our coach would let us wear white on white during away games. We kinda had to earn it. It was blue pants until we were ready.

    • big daddy

La Mirada is so Awesome! To be able to have 5 different uni’s, that’s too cool. This must be a special year…..?

  • New York

Oregon is GREAT, but where are the National titles? How many uniform variations do Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, LSU, et al have? Just home and away using only school colors. No extra colors added in. No “blackouts” like UGA tried when Bama kicked their tails a few years back. Tradition never graduates. Make your school colors cool.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Hey, hey, hey. Watch it there buddy. lol. Have you ever been to Eugene? It’s not Los Angeles. Our uniforms made Oregon an attractive place for athletes to come play and have fun. Don’t hate on us. We do what we do for us. We cannot help it if copy cats have gone the same route.

On another note, no one should be surprised that the multiple uniform combinations are starting to make their way to the high school level.

      • New York

Why not surprised? Are the high schools now flush with cash to buy a bunch of different uniforms?

        • New York

I would much rather invest in a bunch of good training equipment and stipends for assistant coaches.

          • Colt74

I agree with New Yorks way of thinking.

        • Not So Fast My Friend

Who said anything about schools? Lol. One word, “boosters.” All things considered, the uniform is a one time expense that can last up to 4-5 years depending on how many times they use them. That in and of itself doesn’t make them that cost prohibitive. I agree however, I’d rather invest in better sleds, etc. but I have yet to see fans, alums, players or the student body get excited seeing a new sled or tackling bags.

  • Dandy Andy

Rather than worring about what uni to wear and how to edit the promo vid they should be worring about the Santa Fe’s of the division.

  • Aaron

The city section had a rule that said you couldn’t wear uniforms where a school colors weren’t the primary color…a set of Nike Pro Combats got a bunch of games forfeited.
