Bishop Amat wins Bonita Air Assault … beats Upland in championship game …

Bishop Amat continued its impressive showing on the passing circuit by winning the Bonita Air Assault on Saturday.

The Lancers beat Upland in the championship game. The Air Assault was Amat’s second strong showing of the passing circuit. The Lancers were runners-up to Santa Margarita in the Claremont Tournament last month.

Aram’s take: As I’ve said many times this offseason, this Amat team has juice. Obviously, the Super Sophs are gonna be a dynamic class. But the Lancers also have the best QB in these parts in Koa Haynes. A major force in Anthony Camargo. An up-and-comer in Isaac Archer. Yes, “it’s only passing league”. But when a team like Amat, which typically struggles during the passing circuit, wins a major tournament like Bonita to go along with a runner-up finish at Claremont, then you have to take notice.

Arroyo went 3-2 and posted wins over Monrovia, Ayala and Kaiser before suffering close losses to Bonita (2-3) and Glendora. The Knights took second in their pool.

Damien struggled badly, going 0-5 in pool play.

Saturday will be the knockout phase and every team is still alive for the championship … but teams with bad records will have low seeds. Should be interesting …

The Miramonte League is back!!!

Lost in the shuffle of everybody flipping out over the naming of the Palomares League for the 2014-18 cycle is the fact that the Miramonte League is back.

When the Mt. SAC Area did its re-leaguing in May, you’ll recall that a new league was created that features Edgewood, Bassett, Ganesha, Garey, La Puente and Pomona. That new league will be called the Miramonte League.

Those of you with half a memory will recall that the Miramonte League folded at the outset of the last re-leaguing cycle with some of its teams going to the then-new Hacienda League and others going to the Sierra League or Valle Vista League.

The Miramonte League used to be Charter Oak, Los Altos, Diamond Ranch, Wilson and Bonita. Obviously, the revived version of the Miramonte League will be quite different. ENJOY!!!

Antonio “Noodles” Hull appeals hearing held Thursday … results won’t be known for 7-10 days …

Diamond Bar football player Antonio “Noodles” Hull had his appeals hearing on Thursday morning at the CIF-Southern Section in an effort to gain eligibility for the 2013 season.

Hull was ruled ineligible for most of the 2013 season after it was deemed his transfer from West Covina was athletically motivated.

Hull was represented Thursday by attorney Chris Prussak, who has argued eligibility cases before against the CIF-SS.

The appeals committee’s decision isn’t expected to be made available for 7-10 days and Hull’s family will be informed of the panel’s ruling.
