UPDATED: Former West Covina football player Niko Johnson arrested for role in Huntington Beach riot …

I don’t get it. The SGV Tribune story says Niko Johnson lives in Chino. But he played for West Covina last season after transferring from Chino. Irony, anyone? And somewhere Noodles is shaking his head. Anyway, no bueno. Niko’s in some serious trouble.

HERE’S THE STORY …

  • Aaron

Got word of this early Sunday…dude c’mon.

    • AramT

That’s pretty impressive considering the rioting didn’t start until late Sunday.

You play the role of hater HORRIBLY. Like you rarely get your hating facts right before you hate.

Take a deep breath, fix the problem and come back stronger next time.

      • Aaron

Not hating…I’m whether he was a football player or not…why take part in stupidity?

Also, as I’ve told you, checked my stuff and I found out about this Mid-Late Monday and nothing was said about a riot, just about a stop sign, Easy Riser Skateshop, and Mr. Johnson.

        • disqus_wD2qThRkJd

Aaron, the article i read said the same thing about the riot

  • reality

Boy you better be careful if you are a football player or coach in this area. If you do something silly away from football innocent or not, you are going to have your notoriety. No other kids you can out right now? Check utube, facebook, twitter, all the usual suspects. Nice reporting.

  • Fartligian

Oh the irony of this title,
“Poor choice of words on social media…”

  • GP AKA Green Machine

If you are regular person and you do something stupid or illegal; If the story is large enough you will end up in the Tribune. It just won’t be in the sport section. This kid is 18 and is a former player/student, so it’s fair game. If he was a minor his name would not be released in the papers until the authorities release it….lesson learned…stay off camera when something Illegal or stupid is being done. You can’t blame social media for that. Social media has been around for a long time. Now it’s instant that’s all…

    • AramT

I like posts like the one by “reality” … that’s a form of shooting the messenger, which no matter what always happens, no matter the story. But when you’re in this business, you expect it.

This Huntington Beach thing led more local newscasts on Sunday, Monday and maybe Tuesday. And if it didn’t lead, it was near the top.

To have a former local football player from one of our top programs involved, right or wrong, true or not, mistake or not, IS NEWSWORTHY.

If you can’t understand that. Or if you disagree with it, boy oh boy I’ve got the website for you!

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Yeah, mtown had a high profile player get in serious trouble after high school. You know the case I am speaking of. It received coverage. We didn’t like it, and felt it gave us a bad rep. However the Trib took the time to address the issue and why the story was posted. This was done live on the talk show. You can respect the Tribs integrity when it comes to these types of threads. I for one, want to know what’s going on with former players good or bad, that’s why most check inside the huddle daily….It sucks when it’s your school, but it is what it is…

  • Aaron

Well I guess he ended up getting arrested.

    • AMAT 73

For an athletically motivated transfer ??????? CIF is taking this stuff serious !!!!

      • Aaron

Um no…suspicion of felony arson, inciting a riot, participating in an unlawful assembly, and refusing to disperse when lawfully ordered.

Hey DepEd has a SWAT team.

        • AMAT 73

Lighten up Aaron , it was a joke , you’re taking yourself andf this blog to serious .

          • Aaron

DepOEd does have their own SWAT team though…

  • Parent

The kid transferred from chino to west Covina but lived in chino. Athletically motivated, I am sure of that.

  • Brown noser

Ok, let me get this straight. The kid transfers from Chino to West Covina last season. According to Maxpreps the kid played in 13 games which means that he didn’t sit out any period of time. Because he didn’t sit out any period of time that must mean that he transferred on a valid change of address yet the news media is reporting the kid as still living in Chino? How oh how could this be? We all know that the West Covina Coaching Staffs is above reproach and walks on water and yet they must have signed off on this “valid change of address” transfer.

    • AramT

Per CIF rules, if you’re going to have a valid change of address, then the entire family MUST change addresses. So maybe they did that, then right after the season/school year, moved BACK to Chino. Not sure if all that goes out the window if there’s a divorce. Not sure there’s a divorce in this case.

But regardless, this is an example of West Covina GETTING a transfer. There are others. This is all before the program’s stance on transfers changed and they decided to challenge Noodles’ exit.

If you’re going to get guys, which West Covina does, then you have to know it looks bad when you challenge when a guy leaves.

You can petition for a release from your residing school district if you have a parent/guardian who provides transportation and daycare for the student living/working/attending school in the “area” of the school they wish to attend. For example, Noodles family moved to Pomona but was granted a district transfer to attend Diamond Bar due to if I recall correctly, he has a grandmother working in Diamond Bar. Many loopholes to jump through to clear a transfer, this particular loophole has been used for decades and is very commonly used. In Noodle’s case, it was just unfortunate for them to have sent the email that was actual proof of athletic motivation. I get what you are saying about getting transfers and not letting them leave. It looks bad. But I believe everything should be viewed on a case by case situation. We are only hearing about one side of the story. It is easy to go cry to the local media about how unfair you are being treated and blame somebody else for the situation you are in. But what about owning up to sending the email that spelled out your athletic motivations as being the reason why you are transfering your child? It could have been the most eloquently written piece of literature since the Constitution, but it really sums up to nothing more than basically saying “kiss my grits coach, we out.” I am not against Noodles, I’m against whomever it is that did not show the restraint an adult needs to have when dealing with their kid’s future. Eventually you can always try to play the victim, but truthfully a share of the blame has to be owned up. No email and Noodles would be playing week 0 or week 1 and there would not be a damn thing coach Maggiore or anybody else could do about it. I mean Maggiore could still challenge the transfer, but with nothing more than hearsay as evidence, it will be an uphill climb for him to prove Athletic Motivation. As for Johnson, I’m disappointed. I hope he learns a lesson from all of this and becomes a better man for it when all is said and done.

        • Brown noser

What you are referring to has nothing to do with CIF eligibility, it only pertains to getting released from one school to attend the other school from an academic stance. If this kids entire family didn’t move out of the Chino School District (i.e. valid change of address) then, if it was his 1st transfer, he should have sat out until Oct 1st. But, it would appear that his entire family never “really” moved out of the Chino area and therefore probably used a bogus address to gain instant eligibility without having to sit out. I guess that angel of a coach you have isn’t exactly what he leads people to believe he is. Can you say Hypocrite.

          • Bulldogs have bite

How do you know if his family moved out or not? None of us know what his family situation is. He could have easily gained immediate eligibility with a hardship waiver. Which includes: court order, safety concerns, divorce, discontinued program etc. The kid is 18 now, being a legal adult means he can choose where he wants to live, and with whom. For all we know he could be rooming with old classmates or friends from when he lived in Chino. The fact is that we don’t know. One fact I do know is this. When WC coaches did find a discrepancy in a transfer paperwork last season, it was self reported and the game we won was voluntarily forfeited. So when you make a character judgement based on your assumptions, I just provided real information that sort of conflicts with your assessment.

          • AMAT 73

Wasn’t 185 hits on this subject enough ??????

          • Bulldogs have bite

I think you should ask this question to Aram. Apparently Noodles is the only transfer who ever got challenged. Somewhere out there Justin Hornsby is shaking his head.

          • Coach M

How do you know what was said in the e-mail? Because Holier than thou coach said so?

          • Bulldogs have bite

I don’t know. It definitely was not a love letter. We do know what ever was in it was enough to have two appeals denied. For CIF to enforce such a vague rule it had to be a pretty clear picture of athletic motivation spelled out within its contents. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. The fact that the email was sent at all instead of just leaving quietly shows that some parent obviously wanted to get their last word in. You’re not good at trolling, so just give it up.

          • Coach M

            HYPOGGIORE!

          • WCDan

            Geez coach M, your hilarious.

          • WCDan

            Brown stain,
Gone for three or four weeks, I comeback and the very first post on
this thread is you still acting like a scorned woman, damn dude, post something on how DB is looking this summer, much more interesting than reading your assuming and your crying on here,
yet instead you hide behind that keyboard waiting for opportunity too spew your garbage. You must be miserable.

  • Ground & Pound

Come on Aram…get over it already! Why do you make such a big deal about Noodles? Kid has transferred 2 times already. Who cares? Honestly, who is your bigger “Man-crush” Noodles or Asante?

    • AramT

Noodles has transferred ONCE, not twice as you incorrectly stated.

Please, if you’re gonna come at me, don’t do it so weakly.

      • Ground & Pound

That’s my bad, I thought he transferred to West Covina from LB Poly. Either way, you didn’t address the real issue. You are beating a dead horse.

  • Not Since 1995

Arrested for arson, inciting a riot, participating
in an unlawful assembly and refusing to disperse when ordered. Allegedly set fire to a box during the riot…?

This is so sad…! It reminds me of the Bishop NoMas Lanceritos’ behaviour after Lakewood smacked their A$$e$ around several years ago in the 1st Round of the Playoffs…!

Just proves you can take the Cholo out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of the Lancerito…!

    Not In 2013 either…

    • waterone

Cholo??? Haven’t heard that word in a while. Why do “smart guys” like yourself feel the need denigrate Hispanics? Did one of them knock you on your @ss on the field in High school? Behavior like this is reinforced in the home. It is either ignored or outright encouraged. The same goes for the head coach. He looks the other way or encourages it. Either way, I’ve seen it from kids of All colors…So, when you start to go all “riley cooper” remember to breath and think first.

    • Rene77

You are one ignorant S.O.B. you must be traumatized from the lancers with a name like not since 1995. They must have took you guys out in 1995.

  • Coach M

Posted Friday, July 19th. On Fred Robledo’s blog regarding “Question: If you were a high school coach, would you challenge transfers?”

“I have been told by WC staff in the past, that they will check addresses and knock on doors to make sure transfers are really living there with their family.” WCDan

Obviously someone didn’t knock on that door IN CHINO!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! LMFAO!

    • AMAT 73

      coach m ,
Does it really matter ????? The man stands up for WC so what . it’s over . Who’s your team ???? You know mine , you know WC Dan’s .I know the season is around the corner , so let ‘s focus on that , know who do you root for on Friday Nights ???????

    • WCDan

Who’s to say the family did not move temporarily?
      You clowns keep on assuming.
