Antonio “Noodles” Hull denied ALL eligibility at Diamond Bar, meaning NO JV GAMES …

I guess good ole CIF got a looksy at the D-Bar vs. South Hills scrimmage video posted on this blog last night and saw that Noodles took part. Evidently, that’s a no-no. It seems that Noodles is not eligible even for scrimmages OR junior varsity games this season.

So, it appears that one of the area’s top talents will be relegated to simply practicing with his team. Meanwhile, in other news, all three transfers that left San Gabriel after head coach Jude Oliva resigned are eligible (Garcia at West Covina, Mayorga at San Dimas and Valenzuela at Keppel). Also, Kurt Scoby is eligible at Monrovia. We’ll see what happens with Jake Payton at Bonita.

Thank God for this “athletically motivated” rule. I know, I know, “it’s a case-by-case basis” … but the bottom line and the big picture, of course, RARELY make any sense.

Just another reason why football needs its own governing body. It’s an absolute joke that Noodles is ineligible for the entire season given all the other stuff that’s gone on. Hopefully, more and more people see that now.

Carry on with your day …

That is surprising, about the JV Games. First off, everyone knows the Scrimmages ARE Considered Varsity Contests, for CIF purposes. Knowing that and playing Noodles in a Varsity Scrimmage seems like , well, not a very smart move on the Coaches part. If THAT is what has now drawn the “no JV Games either” punishment, then, the venom should be directed at a Varsity Head Coach who broke the rules. I am very surprised if Noodles from the git go was banned from JV Games because I know most of us believe that rulings like this were against Varsity games only. Seems to me the head coach felt that way too because I seem to remember a quote by him indicating that the Colleges wanted to see some JV Game film on him this year. Wasn’t that quote somewhere? Wow, this does suck for him now.

    • The Dude

I’m sure this was news to everyone involved

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

Even I (who wants nearly ALL transfers except legitimate changes of address) to sit out at least half the seasonthink having him sit out of JV also is a pretty heavy-handed blow.

Once again CIF proves themselves to full blown schmucks.

I still think CIF is so pissed at Scoby for making a mockery of them that they are throwing Hull under the bus and backing up a few times just to make sure.

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Why Trash Scoby..his case has nothing to do with Hull. There are people all over the south land transferring all over and multiple times. Why does CIF dislike hull so much?

        • OuttaYourMindTrib

Why trash Scoby? Seriously Greenie? Dude’s been to what 6 High Schools in 4 years? That deserves more than trashing, that deserves never sniffing another HS down, that’s what that deserves.

Hull; daddy left a paper trail is all I can figure, and THAT is a no-no. EVERYBODY knows that.

          • quackatit

Correction – 6 High schools in 3 years!! He is only beginning Senior year!

          • OuttaYourMindTrib
          • GP AKA Green Machine

CIF cleared scoby every time and clear everyone else as well. So basically they only deny people with paper trails duh….

  • The Dude

This is just ridiculous, to be honest. I can see their (bad) reasoning for denying him from playing varsity games, but to not even let him stay fresh by playing JV games? This is an absolutely ridiculous case of trying to make an example out of a player that doesn’t deserve this punishment. I can’t wait until Payton and Scoby (and all of the former San Gabriel transfers) are able to play varsity but Hull can’t even play JV. Well done, CIF.

  • Let Them Play

Curious about something. This is what CIF website says about Scoby. Status is
“valid change of address” and in the notes section it does not say
eligible like all the other rather it says “recieved.” Can someone please explain as it says the same thing for Payton.

  • El Cucuy

#1916.2 An interscholastic scrimmage is a training session where the teams alternate in carrying the ball, no score is kept, and the coaches are on the fi eld directing play. (CIF Blue Book).

So this is nothing more than practice. We’re talking about practice! Not a competition but practice!

    • Aaron

      And then…there were refs.

      • brad mill

yes there were refs…twelve of them. there were two to three at each position..it was training for them as well. CIF rules specifically state that scrimmages are practices. So no people, Diamond Bar’s coaches were not at fault for playing Hull in the scrimmage. They were informed later that he would not be allowed to play JV games either. So someone tell me what could his father have written that made CIF react so viciously. He couldn’t have threatened to do bodily harm to WC’s coach or he would have been arrested. Hull is turning out to be the CIF’s version of the NCAA and USC. We are Gods and we can do what we want and you’d better not protest. Peyton is denied for athletically motivated to go to Upland but it’s not to go to Bonita? I’m so confused

        • disqus_wD2qThRkJd

and again look who was on the CIF panel board!!

  • SGV Dad

This ruling is so pathetic. CIF has a player in Scoby transfer 6 times, and never punishes him for making a joke of the transfer rule. Then you have Hull, who now can’t even play JV for practicing in the scrimmage.
Aram, this transfer rule is totally discriminatory, and overall makes CIF look like a joke.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Been saying that same thing for awhile now. Their rules are just as daft as the NCAA’s 30lb outdated rule book. I read somewhere they suspended a player for a game for borrowing $20 to buy some lunch. SMH

  • Valley Athletics

What a crazy year in the southern section so far . The noodles story , the scoby story , the jake Payton story , the upland transfer story, the westlake hazing incident in Hawaii and asantes suspension .. Wow

  • GP AKA Green Machine

You can only blame yourself. This video is even more evidence that Hull’s camp does not understand the current rules. Stop sending incriminating emails and/or video of yourself breaking the rules. This video only justifies CIF’s ruling. Whatever was in that email was clear cut like the video. It’s not the paper’s fault for posting a vid if sent to them. It’s not a coaches fault if you are sending these things out. It seems like CIF will bless you, if you fly low under the radar meaning, meaning stay away from self incriminating evidence which forces their hand. Get your change of address, don’t shoot yourself in the foot, and you will be cleared. Stop dragging scoby and other transfers names through the mud. They have valid address, he did not have any Emails/Vids ETC…and they did not bad mouth any coaches in the process…get a clue…Cif will come down on you if you are sloppy..Go look at home many transfers they approved which are eligible tonight, and other will be eligible in 30 days…I think it’s time they just get ready for next year. I wish it was not like this, he was able to play but come on..

    • AMAT 73

      GP,
First off let me say I am glad for Scoby to have gained eligibility for this season . But he is the benefactor of many things , Asante being fired by the slime and them trying to put it all behind them and moving on from what they consider a huge mistake . Valid address change or not they were not and did not challege the transfer because his like all other transfers we are reading about are for purely athletically motivated reasons .He was fortunate enough that he did not see nor was a part of the Cathedral or Alemany football teams or the ball would have been in their court , not the slimes . There has got to be more to this Hull situation because to me it just seems like a witch hunt . There is no , none , nada , reason as far as justification for CIF’s recent ruling . Why not at least let him play JV ball , How in your mind is that justified ?????? Show me something that justifies Payton to be cleared and Hull to be persicuted in the manner CIF has done . I am all for following the written rules but when CIF bends those rules themselves , well let me just say I can see Aram’s point on this . I don’t think football needs it’s own governing body , what it needs is a set of fair , clearly written rules on transferring with no loop holes or shady areas and stick to them . Or allow one transfer without question and a 2 or 3 game penalty for every transfer after that initial transfer . Because I am sure if Scoby was denied you would be on here crying foul on CIF’s part also, just as many are doing in Hull’s case .

      • GP AKA Green Machine

Amat 73, Honestly….Monrovia had no expectations on getting Scoby. When I heard he had transferred, i did not think he would be cleared to play for us. If he would have been denied, I would have not been cursing CIF. At first glance you would think a kid who transferred so much would be denied. However, as much as people make fun of him and his parents, they did not incriminate themselves. His parents followed the guidelines and CIF ruled in his favor. Mtown just followed the steps needed to get him eligible and CIF made the ruling. You are totally correct in the fact that he did play for Alemany or Cathedral, he would have been denied. Most institutions and their rulings can be slanted. I too wonder why Hull is getting the short end of the stick. Why is CIF Clearing everyone but him? What was in that email? What did Wesco present that made CIF act in this fashion? I mean for a highlight tape of him to hit the papers, and then he losses his jv status shortly after is strange. There has to be more to this story that we just don’t know. Maybe some West Co Or DBar Fans can step up and tell the SGV what really happened behind closed doors. Scoby is CIF’s way of telling the whole world, you can transfer all you want…Just keep it clean, and low key. If a coach challenges and they have to look into it, and they find something. They are going to act with a iron fist. I think Payton’s ruling is more disturbing than Scoby. His family never tried to ruin a coaches career. I think thats why CO Signed off, and St paul. Now Kurt and family would have been dropping dirty Secrets about CO’s program, falsely accusing them of something and sending emails ETC…There would be a challenge possibly, and he may have never played his JR season at ST Paul. The hull case is closed, so someone should come out and say what really happened.

  • Jastrab

I recall a few years back when the South Hills transfer to Amat QB/TE was in the final scrimmage and even thought he had an appeal pending he could play. What is the difference?

    • AMAT 73

      Jastrab,
Thought you knew God is a LANCER so he won’t allow CIF to pull their crap on us I!!!! All kidding aside these transfer issues are turning out to be ridiculous and totally off the wall . There is no consistancy to any of these transfer rulings . Somewhat like the formula for the all encompassing list .

      • Jastrab

Less I forget that is true…I heard the Freshman won big today at SM.

        • AMAT 73

Great news !!!! That’s where it starts at the freshman level . Maybe we have another group of LANCERS like last years team .

  • Valley Athletics

    Payton is cleared . wow

  • SGV_FOOTBALL

Only if they would have learned from Jordan and Jamie Canada situation.

  • Aaron

Color me confused…I thought eligibility pertained to varsity athletic competition only considering Frosh/JV games are development/feeder programs for the Varsity team.

    • OuttaYourMindTrib

CIF doesn’t even acknowledge Frosh/JV “League Champions” right?

      • Aaron

The only people that acknowledge those people are the boosters who make the shirts…

        • OuttaYourMindTrib

… and the parents that buy ‘em up. ;)

  • Valley Athletics

Would like to know the details of his loss of JV season . Was this always the rule to lose his JV season also . Or is this a penalty for playing in the scrimmage . if there is a written rule that an ineligible player can’t play a scrimmage , I blame this on the diamond bar staff . I don’t think it’s Hulls camp making the decision for him to play in the scrimmage . Just sucks for noodles who adults are failing him .

  • Valley Athletics

Just read that 2 coaches from upland got removed from the southern section from team . Also 3 transfers got denied .

  • Why Not

To ALL of you out there. SCOBY IS A WARD OF THE STATE!!! The CIF wasn’t gonna touch that kid period!!

    • Aaron

I’m thinking the subtle difference between him and Payton is that Scoby has a custodian and not a guardian. Because he’s a ward of the state. The Reality is…what happened at SP last season is a black spot for CIF and Saint Paul so they let everything go.

    • I smell a lawsuit

Isn’t he 18 year old now?

  • I smell a lawsuit

Hull played in the scrimmage because:
    1. Scrimmages are considered practices
    2. College scouts were making requests to see Hull in the scrimmage and playing in JV games
    3. CIF never told DBar that he couldn’t play in the scrimmage or JV games.

I find it interesting that Coach Magiore sits on a CIF advisory panel? conspiracy?

If DBar is still playing come Nov. 9th does CIF just expect this kid to start playing cold turkey against kids that are in full season football form? How safe is that? Maybe CIF should then rule that he can play come Nov. 9th but must do so with both hands tied behind his back? Way to go CIF and congratulations Coach M, not only did you get the kids whole Jr. year but now you possibly got his whole future as well. Sleep well coach.

    • MoreKetchup

Hello Mr. Hull, how’s your son doing?

      • El Cucuy

Why is Mr. Hull the bad person here? So if you went to your kid’s teacher and said that you didn’t appreciate the way your kid had been treated or the way that teacher runs his/her class, you would be at fault for any punishment said teacher would put on your kid? The dad sent a letter of discontent and for that his child is being punished. An athlete is denied eligibility at Upland, enrolls in a new school, and his CIF eligibility is fast-tracked and he gains eligibility to play the next day. If CIF is institution that puts the student athlete first, why the discrepancy?.

        • MoreKetchup

Because one’s father was being a complete a**, not thinking of his child’s future when he sent that email. I think the rule is terrible at best, but a rule is a rule and must be followed when it is absolutely clear that there is athletic motivation. We don’t want trouble with the CIF again, so Coach M had to report this. your analogy is completely bogus due to the fact that there is no rule against a parent being angry with a teacher.

  • AramT

UPDATE: It was not illegal for Noodles to play in the scrimmage. He is/was not banned from that as previously reported … but he still isn’t allowed to play in JV games.

ANOTHER UPDATE: This continues to be one of the most pathetic situations I’ve ever seen. An embarrassment for EVERY ADULT INVOLVED.

    • I smell a lawsuit

I guess Hull’s lawyer wasn’t just bandstanding when he said that he had never seen a school/coach/CIF go after a kid like this and this from a lawyer that has years of experience in dealing with CIF. The Hull’s should contact their State Representative, Congressional Representative, ACLU, NAACP and anyone else that might be willing to stand up for this kid, because from what I understand the Hulls have no money to fight for their kids rights.

  • quackatit

Wasn’t Payton already cleared at Bonita?

  • hater

Job well done CIF and West Covina football staff you have taken a kids dream away from him leading him to the streets Yes I sat up all night with Antonio Hulls mother which is in tears because her son has ran away. Great job breaking a kid down. She has not seen or heard from him since yesterday morning. I hope everyone on this blog is happy

  • SGV 4 30 Years

Aram, I think this one is on you guys. GP hit it right on the head. Had you guys not posted that video, odds are that CIF would have never known the Mr Hull participated. I think the coaches and ad at DB had to know that it wasn’t legal for him to participate in a contest against another school. Why wouldn’t they have checked before hand? Why? Because that’s the Diamond Bar way. Has anyone pointed out that if he were to enroll at a school in his home district (like Diamond Ranch, who DBar has never beaten) then maybe he wouldn’t have to sit this one out. This one is about someone having illegal contact with the player while he is attending another school. I think that is the bigger point that Aram keeps leaving out, while he keeps getting the kid in deeper and deeper. Aram, you are handing CIF a club to hit the kid in the head with.

    SGV430 OUUUUTTTT!!!!!

    • SGV for 30 is still a TOOL

What a complete TOOL you are. Try reading a little more before you open you typical DRanch, ‘”we all drink the Koolaid’, Pie hole. As Aram previously posted, it was not a CIF violation to play the kid in a scrimmage (not a contest). 2nd thing, No matter where he transferred he would have been ineligible because his violation wasn’t about where he transferred, it was solely about how he left Westco (meaning he would have been ruled ineligible at whatever school he would have transferred). 3rd, why would he go to a low academic achieving school like Dranch when that was one of the reasons his mom pulled him from Westco? 4th, nowhere in the CIF complaint is there any mention of illegal contact from DBar, he was denied eligibility based on an email that his father sent Westco and for NO other reason, period end of story. By the way, how many CIF Championships has Dranch won? Why don’t you and that pathetic coaching staff (or should I say, that group of daddy coaches) come on down to DBHS some day and we’ll let you see what a CIF Championship Trophy looks like, we might even let you polish a few of them up for us.
