Monrovia running back Darione Jones, who was expected to split time this season with Kurt Scoby, will miss six weeks with a broken collarbone suffered in the Wildcats’ win last week over Ayala.

Jones, a senior, ran for 977 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He will be replaced on the depth chart by sophomore Kameron Johnson. Sophomore Anthony Marquez may also factor into the mix. Jones was nursing a knee injury this summer and will continue to do so while he heals his collarbone.

“That’s the silver lining,” Monrovia coach Ryan Maddox about Jones being able to return during league play “He’s able to run and rehab knee a little more and get that 100 percent while he’s waiting for his collarbone.

“He just landed wrong. It was nothing you don’t see everyday in a football game. He came down on his shoulder and it broke his collarbone. It looked normal.”

Elsewhere, Rowland running back Avery Duffus will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury he suffered in Week 0 against Nogales. Duffus ran for 1,474 and eight touchdowns. He was a Tribune preseason All-Area team selection this fall.
