Damien beat CH convincingly an their out. Damien lost to Highly ranked teams in their non league games. They my get an at large
I think Damien has a chance . Your correct on there preseason schedule and league . Los osos also had a good schedule . The other teams from the other leagues did not have tough preseason like Damien .
Strength of league and overall record will keep them out.
I think they have a chance . Not saying they will get in . playing Olu , Los alamitos and st francis can help with overall strength of schedule . It’s between Los osos , great oaks , Roosevelt and murrieta valley and Damien in my opinion . Damien might have a better chance than great oak because they beat chino hills and great oak lost to chino hills , a common opponent . Los osos is also 5-5 and there schedule was the tough also . Roosevelt has a chance because they beat charter oak a common opponent . Murrieta valley schedule was not as tough with only vista murrieta being tough . It’s going to be close .
I agree. I know all the boys have worked hard, but I just
think the Sierra league situation is to BCS like. Damien and CH decided it on
the field. And to be honesty if I were CH I would have went
through the back door too, but I would be rooting for Damien to get in. Damien
dominated them on the field.
You got to rank it
1 La Habra
2 Charter Oak
3 St Francis
4 Bishop Amat
5. La Serna
9. Los Altos
10. San Dimas
You’ve got to be a product of the 70’s “new math” scheme with rankings lie that. They are awful. I’d be willing to bet half the teams below them would blow their doors off in a game.
yeah..these are playoff rankings….
Maybe the two imediately below them would beat them, but at this time of the year I don’t think they would blow their doors off. AS for the rest of the top ten I would put my money on CO.
I would put my money up Dan. Look at the Ayala score and remember that Monrovia played them on our first game of the season and remember Glendora already showed that they were vulnerable to a good defense. Save your coins for a more purposeful investment.
O-Cat you know better than to use comparative scoring. Look what South Hills did to Ayala and in turn what CO did to South Hills. Name another team on Greenies list that you would pick over CO at this time of year besides any of the other top 4.
Just saying, not much in terms of stability this season. Although I have always agreed that the better teams in the San Gabriel Valley do usually step it up at the end of the season I feel that CO has not shown much consistency this season.
I was just going by another bloggers numbers. A 2 TD win = “40 or 50 points” which is blow the doors off… No?
You would think that the league AD’s would get together and do the math in order to determine which one of their league teams has the best chance at the At Large births. It would seem that a team like Crespi would have no chance at the At Large birth but by applying for the At Large birth they are blocking Amat from possibly getting the At Large Birth.
By crespi applying Amat won’t be in conversation because of the 4 points given to crespi . Even without crespi applying it is a long shot . amat needed Santa margarita to finish 4th by beating jserra . That would go put amat ahead of both teams .
You have absolutely got to be delusional. Why is it that you Amat fans always think that the world is centered around Amat and everyone should just lie down for your benefit. It is like you are owed something, Stop playing a cupcake Local schedule for fishbowl ego bragging rights and get out there for a challenge. There are PLENTY of Pac5 competition right down the 605. Then you will be prepared for Pac5 talent in league. Earn it on the field then you don’t have to cry for your imagined rights… God can there be any more arrogance!!!
I get it that the coaches and ADs owe to their teams to apply for at large births, but CIF is the gate keeper. They have a chance make it right in the sierra league. The way chino hills backdoored their way in is just not right in sports. This is not the BCS. They knew they were playing for the CIF slot and they lost. You can’t blame CH, but CIF is the gate keeper.
No way should CH be in with a convincing loss like that and honestly, C-No doesn’t deserve to play in the Playoffs either. My goodness thy were awful against Ayala.
Hopefully they’ll both be rewarded with games against the Grim Reaper in the first round where they can receive their reward for being mediocre at best in an extremely awful Sierra league.
@outtayourmindtrib:disqus You have to be one of the must disgruntled bloggers I have ever seen! I feel bad for your kids and grandchildren. Hopefully when you move to Arizona we’ll hear less of you. Maybe they can move Ayala to the Mid Valley with Monrovia… Your CO’s version of BA’s @notsince1995
Phenomenal … glad to see somebody sum up Outta exactly the way I feel about him, too.
Now it’s disgruntled to settle it on the field? You bought into the BCS “BS”.
My Bad, I thought this was the forum to express my feeling about the local on goings of prep sports. I guess some need the off the field help to compete. I go the same feelings about you being disgruntled regarding your Noodles
post and articles, but it’s your blog. I don’t want to bring down the blog. So as long as it does not affect your
favorites everything is great. I still enjoy the blog.
Truth is an unpopular topic these days, that’s too bad.
Guess the C-No honks don’t like getting their whittle feewings hurt. 8-(
Waaaaa, waaaaa, waaaaaa. Do better than 5-5 before you thump your chest.
Now it’s disgruntled to settle it on the field? You bought into the BCS “BS”. Instead of making it right for the kids you make attack. Get a life.
@disqus_7MmaxhDl90:disqus are you referring your comments towards me? I have not pointed any of my comments towards you.
I apologize; it was not directed towards you.
Richie incognito, I mean Outta lets not bring kids and family in to this. I did go to Stanford and I will leave it at that. Let’s keep it in the sports arena. Nothing should be decided in football field, but the opening
I didn’t attack anyone’s kids/grand kids.
Stanford? what the heck does Stanford have to do with the conversation?
Prior conversation, and a joke, we moved
on. I miss spoke.
Disgruntled? Hardly. The chest thumping by a 5-5 team, yeah, not too thrilled. That should be a “shut up and be thankful” moment.
As for the Sierra… Is any sane person really going to say it’s a strong league this year? Really? If being “disgruntled” is someone who is honest, perhaps a glance at Webster’s is in order. The Sierra’s 3rd place offering is pretty much going to be a burnt offering to the Gridiron Gods.
Who is thumping their chest? Are you talking about on the field antics or a drive by CO poster on the blog?
I was the first to say that an 0-4 team did not belong anywhere in the rankings in week 4.
The classless AND UNNEEDED TD with a 4 downs and a minute and a half or less left in the game, The “3rd Sierra League Championship in a row” droning through the PA system, leaving the score up for 45 minutes after the game and there’s not a person left in the stands when every other team win or loose shuts it off within a few minutes.
The drive-by blogger too.
Should the players be proud of their accomplishment winning a 3rd straight league title, sure, but this one in particular should be tempered with gratitude not attitude. They won league in a league that if we’re being honest is one of (if not the) weakest Sierra League in recent memory. It’s not like there’s a single “sharp” team in the league this year. We can claim “trajectory” this and “getting into their groove” that but that fact remains at best we’ll have a team advance to the 2nd round where they will be shut down and will be lucky to get a first down until well into the 2nd half.
Just being honest.
Did somebody say my name?
CH back doored their way in? They didn’t “back door” their way into anything. Their nonleague schedule was just as tough, if not more than several other teams in the Sierra. They lost two league games and a non-league game, ending with a 7-3 record. Damien lost two league games and three nonleague games, ending with a 5-5 record, similar to South Hills at 5-5.
Just looking at it on the surface, you’d have to be insane to even post that. But when you drill down to those league games and you have to make a choice, I would have chosen the SOS as the deciding factor and not a coin flip. I’m sure that would upset SH followers, but when you look at both nonleague schedules, I’d give the nod to Damien over SH and even more, CH over SH.
Telling a team with a 7-3 record they lost a playoff spot to two 5-5 teams would end the reasoning for scheduling tough nonleague opponents and putting cream puffs in their place.
CH lost 2 of their last 4. SH and DHS went 3 and 1. You win you should be in.
I love how folks do that. You guys carve up, massage, twist, rub, squeeze, bend, push, paint over the numbers to suit your purposes. Just like CO, who I respect, but nevertheless no matter how much some try, they still have four losses. Damien is no different at 5-5.
Chino Hills, at 7-3, deserve a playoff spot, and it should not have had to come down to a coin flip at Denny’s.
If an at large spot needed to be had, then that discussion falls between 5-5 SH and Damien. Which I’ve already sided with the Spartans and their SOS.
Damien non league loses was to Orange Lutheran, Los Alamitos,
and St. Francis, so don’t be miss lead by 5-5. Chino Hill is a witness to that.
I’ve already acknowledged their nonleague schedule. And their is no reason to be mislead. 5-5 is 5-5, just like 7-3, is 7-3.
Damien played inspired football off the back of CHs 5-6 turnovers. A good football team is supposed to capitalize off of that.
Chino hills deserves to be there . They had a couple bad games . They are still dangerous and can make a run .chino hills is still one of the better Sierra teams .
That’s kinda like saying Cal is one of the better PAC-12 Teams. They put up a lot of points but…
I said it all season about Chino Hills and their coaches even mocked me for it — the defense cannot stop air.
But, that win over Tesoro is still a beautiful thing.
Chino hill is a CIF team, but they had a chance to distinguish themselves in the Sierra on Friday night and they did not. It’s unbelievable that educators would decided a 3 way tie with a flip of a coin. Luck? Use the tie breaker that CIF is using. Decide it on the field and not at Denny’s.
Spilled milk is still spilled milk. Damien had a chance to distinguish themselves all season with their schedule. They didn’t.
See how that works. You point a finger and there’s always a large mirror to show you what it looks like.
The way you
change things is to bring attention to it, such as the BCS. This is not about
Damien now that is decided. These comments are meant to prompt change next
year. I am done now, because I don’t want this about me. I want to process to change. People like me carry the load for people like you that take things lying down. The NCAA now going to a playoff because of “people like “, it is not spilled milk, its about change. Decided on the field. And
to be fair, when I was making the comments I was not aware the “AT Large” had already been
granted to Los Osos. I thought the
debate was still open for the “AT Large”. I am surprised how tough some are
behind a keyboard (personal shots at other), but that’s life.
What are we? First graders?? Some people are tough behind a keyboard?? Whose got their chest stuck out behind their computer screen? Sounds like you are because there was nothing I said that called for that type of response. But if you’re wondering, I’m not a “keyboard” warrior.
So let me get this straight, you come on here with your “Chino Hills back doored” their way in and think that’s not offensive? You don’t think your implication that somehow a 7-3 team went crying to the powers that be and did some type of deal over a Grand Slam breakfast at 10:30 at night doesn’t marginalized that school or their program? How juvenile of you.
Then when someone calls you on it, you personalize it thinking someone is challenging you. What’s that? Richie Incognito’s weekend school for public relations majors? Gimmie a break.
Damien won Friday. They played within themselves, capitalized on CHs turnovers like any well coached team should and ended their season on a high note. BUT that left them with a 5-5 record and even if it wasn’t settled to your satisfaction by a coin toss, which I don’t even care for, at 5-5 Damien was on the outside looking in. As a 5-5 team should be, even after giving a 7-2 team their third and final loss of the regular season.
So to end this and move on, it WAS settled on the field, CH ended the season with a 7-3 record and Damien, 5-5. It doesn’t get much more clearer than that.
That response was to personal attacks. I agree we are not
kid. I apologize. And it is not as simple as you make it out to be. The teams were tied in league. CH would have lost all traditional tie breakers, so of
course they were ok with a coin flip. And obvious the other school was too, but we
still need to call them on it. The adults and the league have to be the gate keep.
We agreed to disagree. I sure I would take if
I was CH, but anyone being honest knows they came in through the back door. I’m
burnt out on this subject. Good luck to your team.
it has been done like that for years, does not make it right. Come to the new
age, baby. We have internet, facebook,
and many of us work from home. Decided
it on the field. I’m done guys. Let move to the next topic.
I’ve never said, endorsed, or supported anything other than a ranking, etc, being done based on Strength of Schedule. Period.
I know, I get it. I’m just putting thoughts out there, so people smarter than I can come up with new ideals. We all love the game or we would not be here. Good luck to everyone still playing.
Very true. This year I don’t believe it’s from scheming, like last year. This year the talent at key spots isn’t as strong as last year, but the fact is their defense is vulnerable and forces the offense to score a lot of points to win. That combination doesn’t bode well for a playoff run.
I’m not pointing a finger at a person of the kids. I am pointing not a finger at a person. I’m pointing
a finger at the process. That how we change it, as we changed the BCS. So, point the mirror at the Process. That is the American way?
This is a great forum. Good luck to all the CIF bound team and especially to my Wildcats. Go MTown, bring another one home.
