La Mirada’s Tyler Luatua picks Notre Dame …

La Mirada tight end/defensive end Tyler Luatua has committed to Notre Dame.

Luatua was a highly sought prospect with offers from several glamour schools, but Notre Dame was always near the top of his list. He will play tight end for the Irish.

Other La Mirada 2014 commits include receiver Dallis Todd (Oklahoma) and lineman Michael Trani (Cal).

Congratulations to Luatua; Notre Dame historically likes to throw to its tight ends and ND has had many good ones.

For the sake of further stories about commits would someone please clarify what this means. Is the kid committed to going there?’ does the college now guarantee him a 4 year free ride?’ What does this really mean. Have dotted lines been signed? If so good for them. Is La Mirada releasing this story or their mom and dad or is it Notre Dame that is releasing the story. I feel there are more sides to these releases.

He can’t sign on the dotted line until national signiing day. Until then, he’s only a verbal commit. The story was released by a couple of sources like Bleacher Report and He’s been interveiwed by a ND newspaper. In that article, Luatua stated that he was wavering between ND and Alabama which is where his older brother is a lineman. He selected ND because its offense passes more to its tight ends than does Alabama.

    • Just the facts

These are verbal commits that are not binding by either side. The commitment is not binding until National Letter of Intent signing day which is in early February (for football). With the exception of some Big 10 Schools, all scholarships are renewed on a yearly basis and schools can choose to not renew any scholarship at the end of each school year.
