UPDATED: Noodles to play at Diamond Bar, according to his mother, Kanya Bell rumored to be going to LB Poly …

UPDATE: Despite missing the first three days of Diamond Bar football practice, Noodles’ mom has told me he will play at Diamond Bar and that the delay in him not practicing is due to not getting a physical yet. GREAT GREAT NEWS for D-Bar and local fans as Noodles will be one of the top talents around and should help D-Bar compete in the Palomares League.

UPDATE: Noodles also missed second day of practice on Tuesday.

noods

The mass exodus of talent (and coaches) at Diamond Bar High doesn’t look to be over … In the latest sign of attrition from last year’s Brahmas’ talent base, Antonio “Noodles” Hull was a no-show for the team’s first practice on Monday. Also, the hot rumor is that receiver/defensive back Kanya Bell, who is recovering from a knee injuy, is headed to Long Beach Poly.

The rumor about Noodles is that he may be headed to Carson for his senior season. New head coach Marcus Hughes said he spoke to Hull last week and was told by the senior that he will be a Brahma this fall. If Bell and Hull both leave, they would join Cordell Broadus, Cameron Hayes and Brian Lamb as having left the program after being some of the top talent at the school. Lamb reportedly followed Broadus to Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, but is now believed to be at Citrus Hill in Corona Redlands. As for Hayes? You tell me.

Not exactly the greatest situation for new head coach Hughes to inherit. The Brahmas, had all or most of the talent stuck around, would have been one of the top teams in the area this fall.

OUTGOING

WR/DB Cordell Broadus (transfer to Bishop Gorman)
WR/DB Cameron Hayes (left program)
RB/DB/LB Brian Lamb (transfer to Bishop Gorman/Citrus Hill?)
ALL Antonio “Noodles” Hull (STAYING)
WR/DB Kanya Bell (rumored transfer to LB Poly)
Head coach Ryan Maine (resign)
AD Kurt Davies (resign)

  • Valley Athletics

I heard this in April and posted about it . At first the talk was Noodles was going to St. John bosco and Bell to poly .

    • PatrickHT

However, keeps telling teammates they are staying!!

    • Not So Fast My Friend

One of my friends on the Bosco staff said they heard the same thing. But that was a few months ago. He’s been silent on it since then.

  • Valley Athletics

    Hayes is at Serra.

    • PatrickHT

Most people knew Hayes, Lamb, and Bell were gone long time ago!

  • Just wondering

How do these kids expect to pick up D1 offers when they continue to prove that they are loyal to no one? Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the 3rd school for each one of these kids.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Loyalty is a two way street.

  • reality

What did you expect? Loyalty (lol)

  • Lupe

Why would qualified men want to coach this generation?

    • AramT

      Lupe,

The kids aren’t this clueless on their own. The parents certainly lay the groundwork.

      • Lupe

        Agreed!

      • PatrickHT

I’m hearing from teammates that Noodles and Bell will stay so we shall see!

    • Not So Fast My Friend

I wouldn’t blame the generation and I agree with Aram. The parents always play a role in the process.

  • Huskytime

Wow, can’t believe that Noodles parents would be open to sitting out an additional 30 days (4 or 5 games) after sitting out 11 games last season or worse, sitting out his entire Sr. season if he gets caught using a bogus address. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

  • Sandman71

Broadus was overrated and all hype. Noodles is legit that would be a big loss. Hope they can pull it together.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

Agreed. Broadus for all the hoopla surrounding him was unimpressive. I would imagine his dad moved him to up the level of competition and try to motivate him to improve.

  • Not So Fast My Friend

If Hull is leaving, or leaves then he and his family must not be confident in the incoming staff. That’s unfortunate for Diamond Bar. Talent attracts talent and an exodus of talent is never a good thing.

    • PatrickHT

Coach Hughes has a winning portfolio , but does not tolerate bs!

  • Bulldogs have bite

Interesting how the influx of football talent at Diamond Bar coincided with the arrival of Broadus, and the exodus of talent coincides with the departure of Broadus. Don’t get me wrong, Diamond Bar always has a few good players every year so their cupboard is not bare. Remember last year when Noodles transferred and myself and others from West Covina claimed there was someone from DB contacting our players to transfer to DB also? Thankfully, only Hull and Collins transferred and the rest remained loyal to their team and stayed at WC. Everybody claimed it was just hater talk, it wasn’t. Something fishy was going on there at DB and this is the aftermath of it.

Putting together a band of mercenaries will not make a great football team. You need the best players on the team to be putting it down for his team first and himself last! That’s how teams dig deep down and pull through in times of adversity. Winning football programs are not just about the talent on the field, it just helps. There has to be support from the ground up. From the district, the administration, the faculty, the student body, the boosters, the parents, and the community. Diamond Bar had that a long time ago, and I’m sure they will have it again. The quick fix, just add talent experiment did not work. Diamond Bar has a fresh start now with players who are just playing for the Purple and White, I expect that they will be just fine.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

“Putting together a band of mercenaries will not make a great football team”

That was hilarious, but very true.

      • Bulldogs have bite

They beat us pretty good last year, so they were not a bad team either. Their talent level was off the charts! I will be the first to admit that still having Noodles would have been a tremendous help for West Covina last year.

    • AramT

It’s pretty disappointing what’s happened. I didn’t want to believe that playing with Cordell because of his talent and his dad’s influence was the reason ALL these kids went there, but you can’t argue with it now. They all left after he did.

      • Bulldogs have bite

        Aram,

If I did not actually have West Covina parents and their kids themselves telling me that, “hey Snoop called me and asked if I wanted to play at DB, don’t worry about the transportation and stuff I got that” I wouldn’t have believed it myself.

    • Valley Athletics

DB without all that talent is just another Walnut ..

      • Bulldogs have bite

Good analogy. The demographics of both schools are very similar. Every so often DB and Walnut would put out some very solid teams with a handful of standout athletes. Back in the San Antonio league days they were both very competitive! Coaching stability, and like I said earlier, support from the ground up is what makes winning programs. Look at La Serna, they have been to the Cif semi’s once, and finals three times in a row in the last four years all without a single D1 athlete. All just a bunch of well coached kids with great support.

      • DB Alum

Actually the class of 2015 won the league title as Freshmen without the services of the Snoop Clan. They beat Walnut 52-7 that year. Hardly, just another Walnut.

        • Valley Athletics

Before All these players showed up Diamond bar and walnut played competive close games on varsity . Last 2 years where not close . We will see what happens in future . I predict in 2 years they will be at same level again .

          • PatrickHT

They are not in same league this yr!

          • Valley Athletics

I heard they will keep the branding Iron game going ..

          • PatrickHT

That should be fun and interesting!

          • Valley Athletics

They 7on7 scrimmage tomorrow . Heard it from a diamond bar parent .

          • DB Alum

What do you mean by again? The last 10 years we have a 7-3 advantage and historically we hold something like a 20-8 all time record (could be off by 1 or 2 games). Diamond Bar also has a 4-0 advantage in CIF Championships.

          • PatrickHT

Db alum, all that does not matter know as Db will have bigger fish to fry in new league

          • Valley Athletics

Not talking late 90s . Talking recent except last 2 years . Games where close games . Demographics have changed last 10 years and diamond bar will not be any good after 2015 class . Been a diamond bar / walnut resident since late 80s .

          • AramT

Real problem is/was that D-Ranch and Chino Hills opened up. That wasn’t such a prob in the late 90s.

          • Valley Athletics

That also . But also the increase of Asian families moving in .

          • NHC

Lol really walnut hopeful. U have worse head coach in the valley. Ur community and administration don’t care about football. If they did they would not accept losing. The kids play football as a activity. The kids in walnut that are serious never step foot on their campus. What a shame. Walnut will not sniff playoffs. Enjoy a close branding iron game that’s as close to real football u will get.

          • Valley Athletics

Not a Walnut supporter . I am an Amat supporter . I live in the diamond bar area and know the area. Both walnut and diamond bar will be on same level in a couple years talent wise . Diamond bar might be better because of coaching and a couple players . But both will struggle in future .I do here bad things though about football and baseball program at Walnut . No surprise . I still enjoy attending the branding iron game once in a while . Have friends kids that play at both schools and always get invited to go .

          • DBClowns

You must have meant “worst” coach in the valley. Really? I can think of several schools in the valley with coaches that are “worse”. If you’re going off of record…what about nogales, wilson, workman, or maybe Rowland. .since walnut beat them? It’s true Walnut might not be a football power house, but if you look at the games from last year they were pretty much in all the games until the second half. That’s where the lack of depth showed. You can’t blame the coach. He can put you in the right spot…he can’t make the plays for you. This isn’t college where you get to pick your players, you play with what you have.

          • PatrickHT

But your the SANE joker that lied all over the board about walnut beating DB the other day! DB murdered both you and nogales! You have 0 credibility!!! So I guess your gonna tell is the lone win you had in Bonita league was against Etiwanda????? Lol

          • DBClowns

Nope. Walnut got a beating pretty bad in the Bonita tournament. Only win was against S. El Monte. They can’t hang with the teams they played there. But saying DB murdered walnut is a total joke. In reality they murdered Nogales, not walnut. Obviously you were not there and only heard about it. So you my friend have 0 credibility. They play again today at walnut if you wish to stop by. See how good DB looks.

          • PatrickHT

Uhhh, how about yup! My info comes from actual players who played in the game AND parents!

          • DBClowns

I was there in person. Check your sources. Always getting second hand info I see. No cred what soever. Out.

          • PatrickHT

So I’ll let you tell everyone how today’s game went SINCE you have all the facts !!!! Lmao

          • DBClowns

Wasn’t there. Why don’t you ask some parents? Lol

          • SGV 4 30 Years

Dude you must not know much about the valley, or football. Here is the bottom line on Walnut football. They are stuck right in the middle. The top teams want to play them because the know they will be well prepared and play hard. But at then end of the day, they will line up and win because of superior size and speed. The Bottom teams don’t want any part of playing Walnut because the will be better coached than most of those teams and not be able to keep up. Claremont last year would be a great example. They came in unprepared against Walnut and got beat. All things being equal, I will take their coaching and preparation over most others.

          • NHC

Ur correct I don’t no much about the valley or football. Walnut went 1-4. At bonita tourney. Please don’t reply I’m done talking about them

          • DB Alum

DB has won 7 of the last 10. That would be 2004 threw 2013. That’s not exactly the late 90’s, and those would be the worst 10 years in DB football history. Yet we were still 7 for 10 vs the mighty Mustangs. How good we will be moving forward? only the Crystal Ball knows. DB is a top rated academic school so there very well could be parents from out lying areas that send their athlete kid to DB because they value academics. Good coaching, great facilities, and top of the line academics tend to attract.

          • Valley Athletics

Walnut is rated one of the top in country academic . Ask any real estate agent about who is rated higher and they will tell you walnut is . But in my opinion that doesn’t mean it is a better school for education . It only means because of both walnut and diamond bars heavy Asian population the scores are high , not that your teachers are better . diamond ranch might not be known for academics but they get a lot of football players to schools like Harvard in past .

          • DB Alum

Really? Really? Your getting your info. from local Realtors? Next your going to tell me that you get your investment tips from the local used car dealership. LOL You might want to check with a more legitimate source for your information. If you did you would see that DB is the Flagship School in the district with better scores year in and year out.

          • Valley Athletics

            6 . Troy
            65 . Walnut
            85 . Los altos
            103 . Diamond bar

As per US news magazine article . Arcadia and San Marino are ahead of walnut .

          • DB Alum

            Per US News website State Ranking;
            San Marino – #27
            La Cananda – #28
            Diamond Bar – #40
            Los Altos – #65
            Walnut #84

          • SGV 4 30 Years

Valley for you to compare diamond ranch to walnut and diamond bar academically is almost comical. Diamond Ranch is a pretty good academic school but to they aren’t even in the same league as the other 2. As a matter of fact, I would take either of those 2 schools over diamond ranch in athletics period. There is a ranking at the end of the school year in athletics. Diamond Ranch was dead last.

          • Valley Athletics

Not even comparing them . Just stating that the football team has gotten guys to Ivy League schools . My point is also that all these schools are the same in teaching . It’s just that walnut and diamond bar have the students to make the school look better than others because of the average score in testing .The Asian community take there education serious and pay lots of money for after school programs since they are elementary students .

          • DB Alum

A rising tide raises the level of all boats. The fact that DB has many academically competitive students creates an environment that spurs all the students to higher achievements.

          • SGV 4 30 Years

DB Alum, you must have a memory problem. With the exception of last year, every DB-Walnut game has been competitive and exciting. Here are the scores from the last 4 years.
            2010: 34-7 Walnut
            2011: 26-22 DB
            2012: 41-35 (2ot) DB
            2013: 60-28 DB
So I wouldn’t call it dominating at all. Let’s look at play-offs in the last 10 year. What has DB done since Roache left? DB just caught a lucky break with Tyler Brown and Braudus’ bunch. Had any of those kids played or stayed at Walnut those close games would have gone the other way.

    • Not Since 1995

Well put bulldog! Every great football team needs the superstars, but they also need the lunch pal guys that need to put in the hard work! Hopefully DB has learned from this as well as other teams that think its a quick fix. Sometimes those superstars just don’t gel together as everyone has hoped for.

      • PatrickHT

Your right and coach Hughes is demanding exactly that!

    • PatrickHT

Don’t be quick to point fingers, atleast at DB , they DONT hold grudges like some schools !

      • Bulldogs have bite

Why would anyone at Diamond Bar hold a grudge? They knew exactly what was going to happen when the snoop train pulls out of the station for the last time! It just happened a year earlier than they had planned! Holding a grudge and refusing to be a participant in Diamond Bar’s shady transfers are two very different things.

        • PatrickHT

Wasn’t talking about DB, talking about WC!!!

          • Bulldogs have bite

I know what you meant. I just wanted to point out exactly why they don’t hold grudges at Diamond Bar. Simply put, they have no reason to. All that talent that had you guys drooling was attracted to Diamond Bar like moths to the flame. Now that the flame is out, it’s a given that the moths fly away.

You want to keep implying WC held a grudge against Hull, that’s false. Richy Collins transferred to Diamond Bar from WC that same year if you recall. No sort of problem for him, given that he didn’t vocally or in written form announce his intentions to transfer for athletically related reasons.

The WC coaches knew what was going on when players were telling them that they were being recruited by Snoop at Diamond Bar. They knew a certain player was showing up to practice in Diamond Bar colors trying to get friends to transfer with him. They contacted Coach Maine about the matter. Yet Maine still signed off on the transfer disavowing any knowledge of the transfer being athletically motivated, AD Davies signed away on the same paperwork as well.

Where’s Maine now? Gone. Where’s Davies now? Gone. Where’s Snoop? Gone. Where’s Hull, Hayes, Lamb, Bell, and Cordell? Gone. Gone. Gone. Gone. Gone.

How convenient. Let’s just sweep this under the rug like it never happened. Move a long, nothing to see here folks.

It was clear to see all the way from WC the circus forming in Diamond Bar and you want to claim WC was holding a grudge for not wanting to be a part of it?

Keep sticking your head in the sand dude! I actually said some good things about Diamond Bar in this blog. If anybody is holding a grudge it is you.

          • PatrickHT

Yes, your right and I meant to retract comment once I read it thru 2x, as far as Maine, it had nothing to do with being disciplined! But as far as this situation, Bell is likely at Poly, Noodles is a 50/50 bet to stay, apparently his mom really wants him to stay

          • Bulldogs have bite

I would hope Noodles stays. I hold no ill will towards the kid, he’s a fantastic athlete. Nobody here at WC wanted what happened to him to happen. I hope the Hulls know that if you’re good, the colleges will find you.

          • PatrickHT

            Just ignore my comment..hehe..my apologies!

    • Bryan

Coach m at WC received many transfers that we all knew were athletically motivated. Dbar coaches and Ad informed WC Covina what was going on when those kids wanted to transfer. Let’s face it, transfers happen all the time and WC has received many. The thing that puzzles me is the way the coaching staff treated noodles when he wasn’t happy at WC. That wasn’t right. It could of been handled differently. It is over so just move on.

      • Bulldogs have bite

I’m aware WC has received many transfers, and we have many transfer out too. Noodles was treated no different than Justin Hornsby when he transferred from South Hills to West Covina. If you don’t play by the rules, you suck it up and suffer the consequences when you’re caught. Collins quietly transferred to DB and ended up starting at defensive back. How was he treated by WC’s coaching staff? WC doesn’t challenge every transfer obviously. Could it be that the Hull’s created a situation unique unto themselves that ruined their chances to transfer seamlessly? Let’s continue to blame the coaches for the fault of the parents shall we? Sounds like you’re the one who needs to move on.

        • PatrickHT

Okay I’m like you, can’t we all just drop the transfer discussion, there really isn’t much more to discuss at this point! I say let’s just wait and see who suits up when the Friday night lights come on!

          • Bulldogs have bite

Agreed. Transfers are part of the fabric of today’s Prep athletics! Some get challenged and some don’t. It’s a gamble parents should be aware of and it’s on the parents to know how to do it without violating the rules. Don’t leave it up to the grossly underpaid Coaches to decide between right and wrong.

  • AramT

UPDATE: Noodles also was a no-show for Tuesday’s practice.

    • Not So Fast My Friend

      That’s not a good sign.

    • Not Since 1995

Sounds like a case a kid and his parents thinking they are above the game. Some colleges won’t even want to touch this kid with all this drama.

  • Sports News

Just got word Noodles wants to go to school closer to home and from what I’ve been told him and his family still live Pamona and Noodles going there would be a waste just saying….

    • PatrickHT

He lives in the North side of DB, HE would either have a choice between DB or DR…

    • PatrickHT

Word is his mom wants him to stay at DB! Bell is on his way to Poly!

  • Just wondering

Bell is still recovering from a serious knee injury that he sustained after week #2 of last year. From what I’m hearing he is just now starting to run on the leg. If so, it’s very doubtful that he will be 100% in the early part of the season. With that said, I would think it will be very hard for him to compete for a starting spot on a team like Poly that probably has 20-25 kids in their program with similar or better talent then he has. Even if he earns a starting spot, he certainly won’t be the #1 focus guy on the team like he probably would have been had he stayed at DB. I would think the same could be said of Noodles at Carson instead of playing at DB where he would be the top play maker going both ways.

    • PatrickHT

Yes Poly is already loaded! Bell is probably gone but Noodles is not a 100% lock to leave just yet

  • AramT

UPDATE: Noodles is staying at Diamond Bar, according to his mother. See above update for more info.

    • mr.no it all

Bell is at poly my guy told me thats where he stay at any way As four mr hull y not go to pomona yo mom live right by school,,,,,her address say pomona

      • PatrickHT

He still in summer school at DB!

  • Bryan

No disrespect here, but diamond bar is almost all Asian. They are great in academics but athletics will not be what it used to be. Last year was awesome seeing diamond bar go to the second round in cif. I think last year was the best Dbar will get. I think coaches see that and move on. I did hear bell is gone from Dbar. No word on noodles. I wish all the best to all players and coaches.

    • PatrickHT

Don’t sleep on the rest of the team, you do remember that Db played most of season w/o Bell and pretty much all season w/o Noodles right?

  • PatrickHT

Remember before writing DB completely off that they played almost the entire season w/o Bell and Noodles, don’t sleep on the rest of the team!

  • reality

This still is not a good sign. Most AD’s and HC’s demand these physicals be done early. It one of the many things that show a players commitment to the program. Usually this type of lax behavior comes with some sort of team sanction. It’s a chance for the new coach to lead DB.

  • New York

What practice this early in the summer requires a physical exam?

Also, if these practices are real practices, then all players should be present, even if they are not allowed to participate. Team chemistry is adversely impacted when stars are not at least present.

    • Mean Joe Green

Excellent point New York. I was thinking the same thing. Since when are physical exams required this early?! Something smells like fish?

    • Valley Athletics

      Good point .

    • Dbar

Diamond Bar High School has always required physicals to be completed prior to participation in any summer athletic program. DBHS school policy is that prior year physicals are considered expired at the end of the school year.

  • DBClowns

For you knuckle heads that think passing league is a good gauge for judging a football team, Walnut passed against DB and Nogales today. Walnut scored on DB about 3 times. DB didn’t score on Walnut once. Nogales scored on Walnut 2 times. DB scored on nogales several times. Nogales maybe scored on DB once or twice. DB is not the same team they were last year. They will get walluped in their league.

Update. …no noodles or bell. DB is done

    • PatrickHT

      Quit lying boy!

    • PatrickHT

But yet here YOU are judging DB?? Did you even read what you wrote above???

    • PatrickHT

Furthermore, DB has several players currently in summer basketball!!

      • Valley Athletics

Who’s in basketball . Heard everyone was there but noodles wasn’t . I also heard walnut scored more times than DB . But it really doesn’t matter . No running game on 7on7 . What I did hear same guys on offense where on defense for DB .

        • PatrickHT

I heard Brandon Rice may be coming out too!

          • PatrickHT

            He transferred back from Servite

          • Valley Athletics

I heard he had a serious throat injury . Do you know his status ?

          • PatrickHT

He is fine now, he has already played 3 or 4 summer league games with the team….Keep your eye on them..they are looking like they will be pretty solid, now that Henry Frierson is at the helm

    • PatrickHT

So NOW you changing your tone because your caught In a lie!! Predictable however!

  • DBClowns

Update…no Noodles or Bell at passing today against walnut and Nogales. Update…DB did not score against walnut, Walnut scored on them several times. Update…DB is not the DB of the past. They will get walluped this year. If you knuckle heads judge teams on how they do in 7on7 games.

    • PatrickHT

And if you were actually at passing league you would KNOW that DB beat both Nogales and walnut! Stay thirsty as also evident from your twitter rants!

    • DB

Passing league is the only time that the little QB from Walnut can see past the line of scrimmage.

      • Valley Athletics

I agree…jajaja saw him last year at branding iron game . Small with no arm .

  • Lupe

I would guess something is up. You don’t miss all that time last yr. and don’t have all of your ducks in a row this year. Maybe he’s ( noodles ) waiting to see how they stack up before joining the team. Just a guess.

  • Brahma fan

Wow! Just WOW! Mass exodus? REALLY Aram? 3 kids is a mass exodus? Funny thing, 1 is trying to come back.

  • Bryan

Bell is an excellent player. If Dbar had him last season and diamond ranch hadn’t cheated with the hudl scouting, I think Dbar would of won the league. They really only lost to los altos and norwalk. As I say Dbar was the best last year and not to discount anyone.. I think next season is very uncertain. I wish all the best. If you want a great education, d bar is great. It is just hard to get great athletes with the demographics of Dbar.
I have heard some things but will not share because don’t know if they are true now. Don’t be surprised to see a few less players.

Snoop has destroyed a LOT in this Valley during his residency. Starting with his Snoop League that gutted a Rowland Heights youth program, took a number of kids from a Chino Hills while he coached there, and now wreaking havoc on a DB program.

So the pied piper is in Las Vegas. I wonder how many kids are going to fall victim this time?
