La Mirada’s Tony Brown named wide receiver MVP at USC Rising Stars Camp

La Mirada wide receiver/defensive back Tony Brown was named wide receiver MVP at the USC Rising Stars Camp on Wednesday.

Brown transferred to La Mirada from Servite this offseason and figures to be one of the top weapons around. He has eight college offers currently from SMU, Utah, Purdue, Washington St., Iowa St., San Jose St., Utah St. and Colorado.

Brown and another transfer, QB Christian Lara (formerly of Santa Fe), are big reasons why there are high expectations for La Mirada yet again.

Watching film of Tony Brown, he’s a big, athletically built WR. He attacks the ball vertically, has great hands, good acceleration coming out of his breaks and plays with a chip on his shoulder. He could work on his footwork more and sharpen up his route work. All the same he’s a nice get for La Mirada. So who do they have that’s going to throw to him?

Tyler vaughns was also a WR.MVP at the camp, from Bishop Amat

How many MVPs are given out? Evidently, there’s a group of athletes that are honorably mentioned as MVPs? I’m sure both young men are deserving of that accolade.

Actually it was three all together a kid from Florida,Payton

Nice, but the article was on Brown. :-)

I think the Junior Santilian might start over Lara, but we all know Lara is a gamer.

I didn’t even know there was a competition. Thought Lara was the guy. Or are you saying Santillan will start over Lara next year when Lara’s gone?

        • LM_Fan

From what I have seen. I think Santillan has a chance this year.

            It’s Lara all the way

          • What?

According to the CIF Website, Lara has not been cleared yet. His petition has been pending for quite awhile.

It doesnt look good for Lara. I hear Santa Fe challenged his transfer

          • What?

Transferring your Sr. year without moving has to be one of the most idiotic decisions ever. Kid was the starting QB at SF as a Sophomore on a team that advanced father then LM. I guess they figured LM could waive their magic wand and get a 5’9″ QB recruited. Good luck with that. I would imagine that it’s even more difficult to get recruited when you don’t play at all.

The Lara’s moved to La Mirada back before he transferred in.

Does Brown play defense? LM needs some athletes on that side of the ball.

      • Not So Fast My Friend

I saw some video of him playing DB. He’s good, not great at that spot. He isn’t polished enough as a DB to say he’s transitional on both sides of the ball. But he’s an athlete and that can help him on this level. On the next level, not so much. I think he’s more natural as a WR but I would certainly use him as a DB as well. I’d just watch the amount of time I’d commit him to playing that position during the season. He’s needed more on the offensive side of the ball.

I always look forward to La Mirada’s pre season stories and videos. Their PR guy should work for the Kardashians.

    • New York

LM’s promos are fun and impressive. I can only imagine how those videos would be if LM ever produces in the playoffs again.

La Mirada reminds me of Tom Osborne’s Nebraska, before they got over the hump in beating the SEC teams. Osborne realized he needed to start recruiting linebackers from Florida. La Mirada has really struggled defensively against fast teams. Coach M should consider having this kid play defense as well.
