Charter Oak school official: We will sign off on QB Matt Takata’s transfer to La Mirada

A Charter Oak High School official said Wednesday that the school will sign off on, aka not stand in the way of, quarterback Matt Takata’s transfer to La Mirada.

That doesn’t quite yet mean Takata is a full go for La Mirada. Whatever transfer paperwork the Matadores and the CIF Southern Section have to clear up with each other still remains. But this certainly is a big hurdle cleared.

La Mirada is hoping to have Takata ready in time for it season opener at home against Orange Lutheran on Aug. 25.

Good to hear. I don’t believe anyone thought CO would try and stand in the way of Matt playing his final season of HS football.

That’s because CO HC is a class act. However, ask Amat’s Hagerty about a transfer he denied for a kid whose family could not afford tuition because his step father passed away.

  • Valley Athletics

Didn’t think they would challenge . They got him in free agency and he wasn’t going to start .

Hey fast Fred, why don’t you talk about all the La Mirada Transfers and Transfers that St. Francis get’s every year.

    • AMAT73

He would rather talk about all the transfers Cathedral gets !!!!

      • Football 1

Amat 73 what about all The kids that Amat steal’s every year from The SGV school’s.

We do not need to steal any kid from any SGV school . There is enough talent in the SGV for all schools to field great teams . Besides we live by the Field of Dreams philosophy , if you build it they will come , Hags has done a solid job of building it , and they are coming . Your Phantoms should schedule some other SGV schools and find out just how goods some of our other teams are . Good luck to your Phantoms this coming season . Don’t worry about the you don’t belong here comments , we welcome all contributors , even Phantoms , hahaha .

They are D1 and the rest of the SGV isn’t. So they get some kids that want to play only at D1. They are private and have to recruit the entire student population- so what!! CO (high division not D1) and Amant (D1) have coexisted for decades. Along with West Covina Maggorie’s run, Bogans South Hills glory days. San Dimas with Zerneco winning. Even Pomona is reshurging and there was a time Gary was scary.
In 86 Mt SAC was loaded with kids that transferred to 4Y-from three schools, Amant, CO, and WC. The player for the most part play with their friends they grew up with. Nobody is stealing kids. Parents and “personal trainer coaches” encourage kids to move around to up their stock. Situations arise and people are more transient right now. But coaches legitimate coaches aren’t out recruiting. Once a kid contacts a school we are all fighting declining enrollment. Just lay out the rules and keep kids from losing their senior year. Maybe they could grad early and play where they want that last season like NCAA

Nice post , and very true , in the SGV we have very competitive teams who consistently battle for league and CIF titles .

          • Lonewolf4172

There’s truth to the fact that Amat does not recruit. There were a lot of talented kids from Pasadena and IE who were interested in Amat but heard a lot of negative things about favoritism and it being an insiders club. However, while Hagerty has done a good job building a competitive program the reality is that Amat will not win a D1 title. Their too small, too slow and not strong enough against the elite D1 teams. Proof of this is the combined point margin in Amat’s losses to SJB and MD which was over a 100 pts.!!! Demographics and economics are also major factors in this equation. The demographics of the SGV are rapidly changing especially along the 10 & 60 corridor and incomes levels have not grown in relationship with the average cost of living further diminishes Amat’s chances of winning a D1 title.

            lw4172,
Well let me put it this way , AMAT will not buy a championship ala SJB . It seems that SJB and Cent are at it every year for the title . MD comes close but no cigar , with all there recruiting and transfers . We had a good run a couple of years back , 2 semi appearances , so sometimes our way works. We have a good team now , they were young last season and had a solid showing , lost in the first round but many of them had never seen the varsity field until last season so maybe we make a deeper run this season , but we will see . Most of those Pasadena kids would up at Alemany on free rides and I didn’t see them close to the semi’s or finals , and where are they now ??? As far as the negative and favoritism , take it for what it’s worth . AMAT is not for everybody and yes we do have quite a bit of family legacies at AMAT but on the field , you earn the time , it’s not a given thing , no matter how many brothers you’ve had play . I guess with the new system , if we do not have solid seasons and miss the playoffs a few years in row , we will be dropped . But guess what , if that happens , you will hear crying like never before to the tune of , it’s not fair AMAT recruits , they belong in D-1, why are the in D-2 , D-3 , they don’t belong here !!! . Good luck to your team ( St Francis ??? ) this season .GO AMAT !!!!

I think somebody should tell Football 1 that this is a SGV blog–not an inter-city one!

        • Football 1

Hey Fred, I will buy you a Manny’s El Loco Burrito when I see you.I t’s all good.

          • fast fred

I agree! We are both high school football fans. There is nothing better. Look forward to it.

      • Lonewolf4172

St. Francis gets transfers really??? … But the question that needs to be asked is why does Hagerty go out of his way to interfere with players recruiting efforts and deny kids the opportunity to transfer???

        • AMAT73

          lw4172
Where have you seen Hags interfere with a transfer out of AMAT ???

  • SH-Alum

Why wouldn’t they sign off as most of their team is kids who transferred into CO anyway.
