Rosemead residents organize "state of the city"

I just got a call from Steven Ly, president of political action committee Rosemead Partners. He informed me that there would be a "state of the city" address on Wednesday. I was confused for a second. I thought, wait, why haven't I heard about this from the city? It turns out that it isn't sponsored by the city, but by Rosemead Partners. So, I asked Steven, "Do you think it is misleading to call it state of the city if it's not sponsored by the city?"

He said no. "If we approached the city with the idea, it would be Mayor John Tran, or [John] Nunez giving the presentation. We obviously have problems working with them." Councilwoman Margaret Clark will give the presentation, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Rosemead Community Center. It is paid for by Rosemead Partners.

What do you think about the address? Here is one opinion against it.

They "obviously have problems working with" anyone besides Wal-Mart and Mike Lewis.

I wonder if the folks who call themselves Rosemead Partners have even once tried to partner with either the mayor or the mayor pro tem about a positive agenda item? Not just: "I want you to resign" or "I want to censure you" or "I want to distort something to try to embarrass you for political gain," but an actual, positive agenda item? Why don't we ever see them coming to city council saying, "I want more parks, and here's how I think we can get them," or "I want to help get the shopping carts off the streets, and here's what I will do to help," or "There's a problem with parking on my street, and here's what I think we should do to solve this problem"?

Instead, it's just attack, attack, attack, and lie, lie, lie.

So what do I think of a Margaret Clark political fundraiser held under the guise of a "State of the City" report? I think it's par for the course, at least where Rosemead Partners is concerned.

Rosemead Partners and their president, Steven “Lie,” have been pulling the wool over our eyes these last few months. During that time, they have said that their intentions are noble, that they desire to be a civic group who advocates for local community issues affecting Rosemead. This latest situation - hosting a fabricated and political "State of the City" address - is as contrived as their entire group. Let's call it what it is - a political fundraising event for a politician (a.k.a., Margaret Clark) that smacks of a group desperate to regain control of a political process that they simply do not deserve.

During the past 17 years, Margaret Clark has used her position to enrich herself... just look at the facts. She serves on every single committee and commission and board - as long as she is paid a stipend for attending those meetings. She joins a number of statewide organizations - which also happen to fund her travel expenses to exotic destinations around the United States on "official business." And now, in an insult to all Rosemead residents, she and her group of crony dissenters are trying to pull the wool over the eyes of everyone who cares about what happens in our City. Why doesn’t Margaret Clark come clean and tell us all how much she makes each year from her other “extracurricular” activities? Why doesn’t Margaret Clark show us where she has traveled to over the past 17 years she has been on the City Council? I don’t expect that she will ever reveal these facts, because the truth will show everyone exactly who she is and what her intentions are. Like this fake “State of the City” address, she is completely political and contrived.

It does not matter what side of the political divide you are on - no one should excuse Little Miss Margaret for this latest offense. We can all argue over the official state of the City depending on our perspective as it relates to the definition of progress. While I have some concerns regarding traffic impacts as it relates to the development in our community, folks, we need to open our eyes and face reality. Rosemead is not a one-horse town anymore. There are no pastures here, there are no cows in the field. We have nearly 60,000 people living in this community and right now, the only thing that we as residents can claim for our City is the fact that Margaret Clark and her gang of fear-mongering insiders continue to try and divide this community and scare people into thinking that the world is going to end. What a bunch of nonsense.

I for one appreciate the changes I have seen over the last year here in Rosemead. Having called this community home for the past 23 years, I am grateful that things seem to be improving. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and the City will end up hosting an official “State of the City” address. I really don’t care who gives the talk, but I want to hear from the City as it relates to the changes that are occurring. What I simply cannot stand anymore are people like Margaret Clark, who puts forward a fake and false image of who she is and what she stands for in order to further her own political career and ego.

I don't have a problem with Rosemead Partners pulling this sort of stuff. It makes it easier for me to maintain my sense of moral superiority. :D
