Your turn to bash the Tribune...be gentle
It's the third day of Sunshine Week, which is a time dedicated to promoting dialogue about transparency in government. The past two days we've ragged on cities. Now it's our turn:
How could the San Gabriel Valley Tribune improve its coverage of your cities and the happenings within their City Halls?
One idea we've had lately is to create online databases about our elected officials, listing bios, commission involvement, their campaign contributions, and their economic interest statements.

Jennifer,
here's my concern--there is no blogging on political stories coming from the Whittier Daily News staff. I'm a little puzzled, because the S-N and the Trib both have very good local political blogs. A few stories have been linked by you in the last few weeks, but none directly from the WDN writers themselves.
Can this be addressed?

Stop allowing various city officials to use the paper as nothing more than an outlet for their press releases. When preparing stories, question and verify the claims made by city officials....often times you aren't getting the real facts.
Continue to blast cities that fail to adhere to the law and provide a transparent enviroment....and, cover those cities that get it right...as rare as that might be.

I was a paper boy for the SGVT so I have nothing bad to say about it. My first job at 15 and the Boy Scouts of America helped shape me into the hard working man I am today.
Good for fish wrap too!
