Despite criminal charges, Robles guns for top DA's job
Crazy story about water board member Albert Robles who is facing criminal charges yet he has decided to challenge District Attorney Steve Cooley for his job, Whittier Staff Writer Airan Scruby reports.
Albert Robles, director on the Water Replenishment District Board, is charged with four misdemeanor counts and appeared in Downey court Tuesday.
Robles, 39, said he is running for district attorney despite the charges because he did not believe anyone would run against Cooley, and he felt voters should have another option on June 3.
"Steve Cooley is the worst district attorney in the history of the county," Robles said. "I was just hoping to present myself as an alternative."
At least one reader so far claims that Cooley is a "bully:"
Cooley and his inner circle knew over a year ago that Albert Robles was preparing to run against Cooley, that's why they filed three misdemeanor charges against him. Why? Could it be that they are afraid of a run-off or they are just bullies?
C'mon Cooley don't be a bully, why do you abuse your power and betray the trust of all the democrats who voted for you?
Im voting for STEVE IPSEN - all should do the same.
BTW: WRD director Albert Robles should not be confused with former South Gate mayor councilman, treasurer and deputy city manager Albert T. Robles, who in 2005 was convicted of plundering more than $20 million from the city. In November 2006, he was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.

Watcher, you hit the nail on the head! I can't stand this Robles guy just from what I read about him. He said something like "all Americans should be offended for what is happening to him". Who is he and why should I care? If he broke the law, he should pay.

I Agree, I can't believe he said that. I don't feel the least bit offended by what's happening to him. I'm offended he wants me to be offended!! I'll go ahead and say it: LOL! This guy's antics makes Flavor Flav look like Walter Cronchite. When's his reality show coming out?

Careful Watcher, don't give him any ideas!

A complaint was submitted Dec 2005, and Albert Robles was never mentioned in this complaint.
Fact: At least three Pico Water residents were involved in providing four separate sets of mailers. A fourth Pico Rivera resident submitted the complaint.
Fact: The Community Democrat, Vote Republican, both did not include return addresses.
Fact: The Community Democrat had a simulated sample ballot, which the fourth Pico Rivera resident thought may be illegal, due to a presentation they heard given by Dave Demerjian of the Public Integrity's office in 2004, hosted by a Claremont community watchdog group Active Claremont.
Fact: There was a third flyer that was both mailed and handed out featuring some unethical, but not illegal, lies on it, that also did not include return addresses.
Is someone being prosecuted for the third flyer?
What were the lies?
Fact: One candidate stated he was the only Marine running.
Who would normally care, it's a water race right?? The reason it was tacky, because it was designed to personally insult the two other Veteran's that were already Pico Water Directors.
One of which was serving as the VFW's 6th District Vice Commander for Los Angeles County at the time, and is currently Commander.
Fact: One of the three slated candidates was confronted on this, he blamed the "Only Marine" for talking to the printer and telling him to put it. He seen it, knew it was wrong, but did nothing about it.
What was the other lie on the third flyer?
One of them said they voted no on a specific rate increase. And it only true he wanted more of a rate increase.
The others were in regards to handouts, and how they failed to claim any of it on their campaign finance forms. (Flyers, signs and flowerpots)
Even if all were gifts they would have exceeded 1000.00, and should have been accounted for.
Robles is saying that he is not admitting to anything, but if he did do anything, all he did is gift something?
If so, that means his friends still should have reported it, which means they knew about Albert Robles role, which means one of them publically lied to the Whittier Daily News, and to it's readers.
Excuse us District Attorney's office, it sounds like a very special circumstances here.
Be sure to check Albertrobles.com, it always has new and useful information.
(yes, this is the same web address that the other convicted Robles used)
The website currently features two news articles from the Metropolitan News dated 03-10-08, and 03-24-08. Where he reiterates the vendetta claims.
