La Puente wants to make some extra bucks
A very pressing item on the La Puente City Council's agenda for next week: CONSIDERATION OF DECLARING LAPTOP COMPUTERS AS SURPLUS EQUIPMENT
According to a staff report, the city wants to sell five old laptop computers previously used by the City Council for a $1,000 bucks a pop.
Just a couple of questions come to mind: Why are these Compaq laptops considered surplus? Is the council getting rid of the equipment because they now have new computers? What are they going to do with the money? And do they really think they can get $1,000 for each computer?
The running rate on eBay is about $400.

I heard these laptops were old, big and heavy and best suited for use as paper weights. Surely not worth a grand each. I too looked at the staff report on line and it says the "City Manager has the authority to sell surplus equipment that cannot be used by any agency or which has become unsuitable for city use." So these aren't suited for city use, yet they want some poor smuck to pay a $1000 for them? I have some old shoes; maybe I can get the city to sell them for me at $250 a pair?
