Transparency in Rosemead’s government

The city is evolving. On Tuesday, it took a step to become more transparent, some of the council members said, by approving money for a system that will allow the meetings to be broadcast online. The system, called Granicus, is the same one used by El Monte. It is very user friendy, and has the agendas on the right of the screen. If you click on an item on the agenda, it will fast forward to that portion of the meeting.

Dave Barron, city clerk at Monterey Park, attended the meeting on Tuesday and was asked if Monterey Park uses the system. Barron said that Monterey Park has been looking at the Granicus system for several years, but said that it is just too expensive.

Rosemead’s council authorized $87,500 to implement the videos. It should be up and running as soon as September. The Council Chambers, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to open in July. Once the upgrades are complete, it will take 60 days to install.
