EL Monte’s chopping block

i-be89508515c8d302be8af5fb3f978818-cmwallach[1].jpgYesterday, we got a call from an upset resident — who refused to give his name — whose wife allegedly works for the city of El Monte. Apparently, she got wind that her position is among those on a “list” of people who could get fired.

So, I called El Monte City Manager Jim Mussenden to ask him if anyone was fired or notified yesterday that they would be getting fired — he preferred the word laid off — and he said no. But, he added, as the council looks at closing the city’s proposed budget deficit, layoffs are one option.

Councilwoman Pat Wallach confirmed that there is a list out there of positions that could be cut. But, she added, the list does not name any individuals.

“There was nobody specific named, just naming certain positions in departments that could possibly be cut,” Wallach said.

As rumors go around City Hall about possible layoffs, Mussenden said people should not get ahead of themselves in assuming things about the budget and possible cuts. The council will have a budget workshop in the coming weeks, and will likely approve the budget in the first week of July.

In order to save the city from a bigger deficit black hole, employees will most definately get a pink slip. Mayor Gutierrez and his three amigos plan to balance the budget (or close to it) on the hard working backs of the cities employees. You better believe there is a list. There has to be. There is no way that they (the dim witted four) can balance the cities budget for 2008-09 and get it back into the black. IT CAN ONLY BE DONE BY GIVING THE EMPLOYEES A KICK IN THE REAR AND OUT TO THE CURB. Think about it. The more years you have as a long time employee, the easier target you become. Less high pay, less medical, dental, vision, vacation and sick days and retirement. It does add up. Do the logical math. Will Emily Isigaki keep her daughter and son in law on the payroll. You bet your bottom dollar. Talk about nepotisum.(sp) Well the nasty little 4 will keep trying to play hard working, honest politicians. Try cutting the high pay of your El Monte Police rank and file. Those retirement packages are a dream come true. Oh, excuse me you can’t bite the hand that feeds you, right? Give me a break.

The police chief is to retire in Dec this year I here?

cAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE GOLDEN RETIREMENT PACKAGE.
THAT WILL PROBABLY KILL NEXT YEARS CITY BUDGET FOR 2008 THROUGH 2009. WATCH AND SEE.
THANK YOU ERNIE, EMILY, ART AND “J”. YOU ALL MADE THIS POSSIBLE. YOU FOUR JUST DON’T GET IT. DO YOU?

  • Ex El Monte Worker

During El Monte’s last budget crisis the city chose not to replace retiring workers rather than cutting a lot of jobs. The result was that the remaining general unit employees had to bear a greatly increased work load, in some cases doubling up on jobs. Needless to say it was not a very fun time to be a low-level worker for the City of El Monte. Union negotiated pay raises were kept intact, particularly for Police Dept, Management, and Mid-Management. As always, it seems that the rank and file workers suffer for the mis-management and failed policies of the council and especially the city manager.

  • El Monte Resident

You are saying that the city manager suffers. Explain this if uou please?

  • Ex El Monte Worker

Sorry I didn’t make it clear. I meant that the lower-placed city workers suffer. The City Manager makes bad decisions and poor choices that are the cause of the suffering. Hope that makes more sense.

AS always those that are on the bottom always get the short end of the stick. Is Emilys Ishigaki s daughter on the bottom as working for the recreation department? Her son in law works as a police officer for El Monte, so he is set. Now does her husband get paid to sit as a Commissioner?
    Can you say N E P O T I S M !
Ain’t it amazing how she looks after her own and at the same time cares less about the employees, her over spending on the cities money, and the residents of El Monte. Unfortunetly the city continues to be in the red
by $5 million of our tax dollars.

Mayor Ernie Gutierrez holds the ax on jobs while Emily swings away. The city manager Mussenden brings in the royal chopping block. What a dynamic three o. I would hate to be an employee at city hall knowing that these three jerks will do what they dame well please.

  • Anonymos

God help the employees at city hall. Mayor Gutierrez, Councilwoman Ishigaki and the city manager Mussenden have it all planned out. Mussenden provides the chopping block. Ernie has the job ax and Emily swings away. What a pathedic nasty three.

i can’t help but agree with you. i have been to a couple of city meetings and have seen and heard for myself the kaos. ernie looks hung over and emily talks and talks and talks about nothing or real substance. someone needs to tell her that her to shut up. we all crinch when she laughs. jay just ignors it all like a true politician. he tries to keep his image clean as usual. pat tries, but she is only one vote. barrios does next to nothing at all. just picks up his pay check and heads out. mussenden kisses butt big time. he has to or he will be out the door. moseley helps by becoming a team player. he makes sure that they are all protected no matter what. not the best attorney for el mopnte. that is for darn sure. he is bought and sold just like the rest of sorry loosers.

  • El Monte Resident

WHO GOT THE ROYAL AX FROM GUTIERREZ, ISHIGAKI, GOMEZ AND BARRIOS? WAS EMILY’S PRECIOUS DAUGHTER’S JOB CUT OUT OR REDUCED TO FEWER HOURS? DID THEY APPROVE THAT WORTHLESS HANDBOOK ON THE EL MONTE POLICE’S HISTORY? (WHAT A JOKE)

  • EM RESIDENT

The only chopping that should be done is the money that is spent to feed Emily Ishigaki. All she cares and talks about is food, food, food. Oviously she eat and eats. Alberto’s is her favorite eating place. It is open 24 hours a day. By the looks of it. It really shows on Emily.Get some professional help lady. ASAP
