El Monte spokesman Matthew Weintraub has confirmed that El Monte received a $26 million grant to fund the city’s transit village project.

I know this blog reported this earlier, but apparently, it wasn’t official yet.

The money is coming from the state and will be used for the first phase of the project — mostly city improvements that will lay the foundation for the transit village, according to reporter Brian Day.
