Farming the clouds

clouds.gifThe County approved money for cloud seeding, which has been used in the San Gabriel Mountains for more than 50 years. But the most interesting part of my story, which ran today, was Three Valley's Municipal Water District director Bob Kuhn's recollection of Glendora's use of cloud seeding ... and rain dancers.

Kuhn, a former councilman in Glendora, said the city took every measure it could in the 1980s to stave off the drought.

Aside from cloud seeding, the city even paid for rain dancers, he said.

"The rain dancers showed up on Friday, and did their dance. And the next morning, it started raining," Kuhn said. "I'd like to think that happened because of the cloud seeding."
