| | Comments (17) |

I haven't had the chance yet to catch up on El Monte's council meeting last night, but I do know this: council approved the add-on tax measure and it will be on November's ballot.

More to come later in the day...

Those inconsiderate jerks. As usual we get caught paying for their stupit mistakes. Will we we have to give up besides, food and other neccesary daily needs?
Good bye Gutierrez, Gomez, Ishigaki, and Barrios.
God help us all in El Monte. The End of the Santa Fe Trail, no better yet the end of El Monte, as we know it. You four are a bunch of sorry losers and jerks.

FOOD AND PRESCRIPTIONS MEDICIDENES ARE NOT COVERED BY ANY SALES TAX. NOT THIS ONE EITHER. NEVER HAVE BEEN AND NEVER WILL BE.

El Monte Voter said:

The 1/2 sales tax will be decided by us the voters in November. I only hope that Gutierrez, Gomez and Barrios are up. Then we can all vote in a new, responsible ethical mayor and councilmembers to El Monte. Ishigaki will be up in two years. That old crow will be next to go. We need to yurn El Monte around, without socking it to the residents of El Monte.

Another EM voter said:

Guitierrez, Gomez and Barrios are not up until 2010. So unless they resign....we get to watch Ernie chomp on his gum for another year and a half.

Not all food is exempt. Sales tax is paid on food at restaurants and fast food joints.

Which means a Whopper, coke and fries will cost you a whopping 2 cents extra.

In response to EM voter next elections in El Monte will be the first tuesday of November 2009 and Gomez, Barrios and Gutierrez will have to face the voters again and it will be up to you and me to spread the word about their performance so we have 16 months left and we can start praying now and hopefuly you do not believe in their false promises this time.....

I never did believe anything Gutierrez said or promised. He a slick politician. He has shown everyone in town what a loser he has become. They only good thing he had going was his wife Olga. Barrios isn't any better. He just goes along with the majority of four. He really doesn't bring much to the table at all. He is also very rude to the speakers at the council meetings.Gomez is a sad case. He tries very hard not to make waves. He speaks very little on any concern or issuue. The only credibilty he has is working for a county supervisor. Even at that he is a "snob". They all need to be kicked out of El Monte once and for all. They are three frogs on a log. Catching flies all day and kicking back at the pond. What a waste of three do nothing politicians.

It is time to make sure that Mayor Gutierrez and the other three are not returned to office. I believe Gutierrez, Gomez and Barrios are up. We can not take two more years of Gutierrez and certainly four more of Gomez and Barrios. They have shown how little they really care about El Monte.

I THINK THEY ALL HAVE HAD TO MAKE HARD CHOICES. I THINK IT'S EASY TO BE A CRITIC IN HARD TIMES.

SGV resident said:

Exactly what "hard" choices have they made? More taxes? That is their standard choice. Just be careful...the untility tax was supposed to get the city out of difficult circumstances. It then became an important part of the city's budget. The more money that comes into the city, the more they spend. If the additional sales tax is voted in, it will never go away.

The Utility tax was spearheaded and promoted by our current mayor Gutierrez and suppose to be a temporary tax only.. Now the Pensions, the oportunity was there about 2 years ago to correct the 3% per year worked we give to department heads with no limit of years worked, but guess what? Gutierrez, Gomez, Barrios and Emily voted in favor to continue it until year 2018, the Tribune called them and they were told that it was already corrected but never mention that it was extended for another 10 years. So if you work 40 years for this City you will make 120% of your salary and we have a few already making that kind of money...Now we know where the trouble starts..A couple of employees making $170,000.00 a year pension and you see these numbers in Washington only and of coarse they are broke also because when they run for office they forget how to count people's money.

Was anyone who is on the council now also on the council back in 1991 when the UUT was first passed or when the voters had an election on March 4, 1997 to continue the UUT? That was more than 10 years ago. Wasn't the UUT reduced from 7% to 6.5% in the last election? Yes, I know what your going to say: "but aren't they taxing the internet now? ANSWER: NO. In fact if your like most people who only have a landline phone and a cell phone you are paying less. Unless you have some really high-tech type communication devices (which I'm guessng you don't) you are really being taxed less on the UUT telephone stuff than your were originally.

I agree that symbolically upper management saleries should be reigned-in like for car allowances and such but I think even if you add all the department head salaries to together that really would not address the budget situation - it would just be political window dressing.

I PAY TAXES FOR WHAT said:

I don't understand. A couple of years ago the city needed a tax to keep the police dept in business. It failed. The police come up with the money for a new helicopter. Last year the city put a tax reduction for phone service on the ballot. I assume we didn't need the entire amount. Did we have lots of money then? This year we are broke and we need a increase in sales tax. Who is doing the planning in the city? Do we really need money?

El Monte citizen said:

In response to who is doing the Budget planning in the City and the answer is everybody except the Council and mayor that we elected to take care of that, so you and all the voters in this town know what to do next election november 2009..They go by priorities as to who gives them the most money in campain donations...

Do the math. Gutierrez, Gomez, Barrios and Ishigaki are put back into after because of "special interest"
groups in El Monte. Their major campaign contributors are the El Monte Police PAC, along with Chief Weldon, his top rank and file, city attorney Moseley and city manager Mussenden. It maily comes in through employees, bussiness aquantences, friends, and family members of...all of the above. How else could the four amigos afford countless, sick, expennsive mailers, yard signs, and free give away trinkets. They are a dime a dozen kind of politicians. Bought and sold since day one. They have continued to run the cities budget into the red, year after year. We simply can not aford 2 more years of Gutierrez and four of Gomez and Barrios. They more they spend the more we the people get hit in the pocket book. It is time to let them know once and for all that WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE THEIR NONSENCE ANYMORE! We need a desperate change in a new mayor and two new councilmembers. It is the only way for our city to survive in the San Gabriel Valley.

To all who are confussed. Understand this as long as the current mayor and city council remain in office the City of El Monte will always be in a defecit. They will always come up with a so called "valid excuse" to add on extra taxes or come up with a measure or proposition. They will use "scare tactics" to convince the voters and residents that the sky is falling. Well heck it has been falling since they all came back into office. They create the deficit year after year. They have the final say in moving money around in the yearly budget. They have the final say in approving it all together. They all know that good and well. Most of all they creat the financial black hole the city goes into every fiscal year. They are to blame for all this mess. Mayor Gutierrez and his three goones, Gomez, Ishigaki and Barrios are the kiss of doome for El Monte. They all, simply must go.
