Metro Editor Eddie Barrera just walked out of the newsroom, wrapping up a two year stint as the head honcho and five years as a LANG staffer. He was a mentor to many of us young reporters.

He is off to Guatemala for a month, and then heading to New York to do, well, I'm sure he'll let us know when he figures it out,

In his place, Frank Girardot, Crime Scene blogger and city editor, will step in, and we are still awaiting a formal decision on who our assistant city editor will be.

Edward said:

Anon,
The Trib is in good hands. We are stronger now than when I got there.

Having worked with your predecessor who gave his time, heart and soul to this paper, I have to disagree with your assessment. But, Bon Voyage and good luck with all of your endeavors.

I had the opportunity of personally meeting Mr. Barrera in November 2006. In the very first 5 minutes of our meeting, I instantly recognized that Eddie's qualities are that of a true gentleman. His professionalism and sense of compassion will greatly be missed. Eddie you are the epitome of a great journalist! I wish you well and God bless you in this next chapter of your life!
