Feeling taxed?
My story today goes into the half-percent sales-tax hike proposal that will appear on the November ballot in El Monte.
The tax is among several that voters in nearby cities and county will see, including a 1 percent sales-tax increase in Pico Rivera and a half-cent sales tax measure that the MTA board approved yesterday. (Check out Pasadena reporter Dan Abendschein's blog Under the Dome for more MTA info. He was blogging from the MTA meeting yesterday.)
With such tough economic times, it will be difficult getting the voters on board, said Dean Baldassare, president and CEO of the Public Policy Institute of California. But then again, Southgate voters approved a 1 percent increase by nearly 74 percent.
Are you going to be voting for more taxes come November?

I will definitely oppose the MTA sales tax increase. They only take money from the San Gabriel Valley and provide little or nothing in return. I don't know why we don't break away from Los Angeles County and become the San Gabriel Valley county. Hopefully, Gloria Molina would stay in LA Co. She does nothing for us in the San Gabriel Valley. As long as East LA is taken care of, she is fat and happy.
We should have our own transportation district. West LA just views us as a bunch of bumpkins. I don't know about you but I'm sick of sending my money to West LA. Down with the Westside-Tax
For sure I won't vote for the MTA tax and I probably won't vote for the El Monte tax. Unless El Monte can tell me when the extra tax will end and they promise to not increase spending to match the extra money coming in, it will not get my vote.
