Holguin in court

| | Comments (25) |

So former Valley County Water Director Dolores Holguin is in Citrus Court in West Covina right now, facing one count of misusing public funds.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed the charge against Holguin , 59, in May.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge last month.

Scheduled for today was Holguin's preliminary hearing. More to come when we know it.

In the meantime, if convicted, Holguin faces a maximum of four years in prison and will be prevented from ever serving public office again.

I support Dolores Holguin completely. She was the only one making sure that things were not run badly. I don't think she did anything wrong and consider her a close friend.

What is the prosecution required to prove in order for her to be found guilty?

What allegations support a findng of guilty?

What contentions support a finding of not guilty?

Sylvia Baker said:

I also support Dolores...I have known her for over 25 years and have always been able to count on her integrity, kindness and reliability...this is a witch hunt..
I think our tax dollars are being wasted on this pathetic display of injustice.

Cosme Jimenez said:

Thank you Sylvia. I support her completely she is a person who I admire so much.

It's only corn... said:

Ms. Holguin is a professional women who cares about her community. Those who question her integrity need to focus on the internal struggles of government to only realize how unprofessional the professional carry themselves; these folks are still in their grammer school persona. Keep the faith Ms. Holguin.

Its only corn

Sylvia Baker hit the nail right on the head - witch hunt!! Ms. Holguin's track record not only speaks for itself, she was instrumental in cleaning house and getting rid of the real bad apples. If she is guilty of putting a few pencils and erasors in her purse, I'm sure that she ended up using them to scribble notes for her agenda and other job related ideas. Ms. Holguin needs our prayers and support. God Bless!

Ok so if it's a witch hunt??? said:

Why then did the District Attorney's office proceed with filing charges? I'm almost positive that there is not a single individual within the District Attorney's office who gives a rat's ass about Ms. Holguin - so to claim that this is a "witch hunt" is absolutely insane and a COP OUT! The fact of the matter is that Ms. Holguin was running-a-muck, out of control - and finally, she got caught - period! High-five to the men and women of the District Attorney's office for their diligence in protecting the public's interest from individuals like Ms. Holguin.

Maybe we should wait until a verdict is rendered by making these kinds of conclusive pronouncements. DA's do lose cases and sometimes do not have the evidence or facts needed to warrant conviction in the eyes of a jury. I'm not saying give her a pass but less at least try to abide by that silly little document call the Constitution which does say that you are deemed innocent until proven guilty. I can think of one very recent case involving allegations of incompatible offices by a Baldwin Park official which LOST. Yes, lost, the jury did not buy the DA's theory of guilt. Just something to think about. YOu don't have to like her to still believe in due process.

She needs to be made an example. I've known her for too long and she gotten away with too many things. You people who think you know her that well, if you don't do what she wants you to do, she will try to get you one way or another. This person STOLE money from Baldwin Park people. Why is she not in jail yet?! Why should she get a free pass?! Tell that to the people who are trying to make ends meet while she is getting paid double with THEIR money! I'm not the type of person who wishes anything bad on anyone, but when they cheat, steal, and lie, something must be done.

I think it is unfair to presume Ms. Holguin is guilty. I have known her for many years to be an honorable and fair person. She has always been an advocate for the people and done the right thing. Why else would she have so much support in the community? She has always stood for what is right and I believe that when everything is said and done, the rest of the public will see for themselves that she was unfairly punished for something she didn't do. The damage to her has been done.

If you steal a pencil from the board, you're guilty
If you steal a dollor from the board, you're guilty

so...Ms. Holguin, honestly, ask yourself
are you guilty?????

you know better than anybody else.
be honest while it's early (you're only 59)
maybe the judge will give you a chance........

...or maybe the jury will find her innocent meaning that the only thing the judge will be able to say is "case dismissed."

She was back in court July 2. Does anyone know what the outcome was?

The sad part is she knows a lot of political people (including judges) whom she keeps close to her. She may get away with it again. She forgets she has a higher power to answer to one day.

I hope the people of Baldwin Park continue NOT to vote for her because they have already been hurt by her. I was amazed that she had the gull to run for the water district again. Shame on her!

If the judge says "case dismissed," I will not understand the legal system! She knows exactly what she did! How does this person show her face and even sleep at night?

And the cockroaches come out of the woodwork. The DA has filed charges but she has not yet been convicted -at least give Ms. Holguin her day in court. The lynch mob won't be satisfied no matter what, even prematurily forecasting favoratism. I, for one, will at least respect the court system and accept the outcome!
