It's about the budget cuts. Basically, the Firefighters' Association is telling the audience that cuts to the department can reduce response times.

To correct a couple of misconceptions. First the ad's seen on local cable are not sponsored by the West Covina Fire Department. They are paid for and sponsored by the West Covina Firefighters Association. Our first, is a PSA concerning Pool Safety and Drowning Prevention. Interestingly enough, no controversy. Our second PSA does concern the state of the economy, resulting budget cuts and how it can have a negative impact on the fire service and our ability to respond efficiently. However, we continue to work with our staff to provide the very best service possible during these difficult conditions.
The "Budget PSA" does not aim to place blame or point fingers, only to remind and educate the public that cuts have consequences. We understand that our Council and City is facing difficult budgetary times and we respect the decisions, however difficult, that they have been forced to face. Do we like cuts which have resulted in reduced staffing? Of course not, but we do understand that many difficult choices were made in order to reduce a budget deficit. We look forward to working with our City Council and staff, and are very encouraged by their committment, to returning our previous staffing levels as soon as it is possible.
