Knabe changes MTA sales tax vote
Looks like the MTA sales tax measure isn't dead after all.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe announced today that at the next meeting of the Board of Supervisors, he will enter a motion to reconsider the Board's previous vote on the Metropolitan Transit Authority's (MTA) sales tax measure.
Supervisor Knabe has also decided that at the time of the reconsideration he will change his vote from 'no' to 'yes.'
Knabe's reconsideration and intention to change his vote means that the MTA sales tax measure has enough votes to go before voters in November, not as a separate election.

ONLY IF AB2321 IS APPROVED.
What a SGV backstabber....
Your online poll question is so skewed... how about - do you agree with Supervisor Knabe's decision to reverse his vote on the inclusion of the MTA tax measure to allow the MTA screw the San Gabriel Valley out of prioritizing critical transportation infrastructure?
Tap, tap...Supervisor Knabe wants a "do-over". And I wouldn't be surprised if he has dibs on the swing next. Are we back on the kindergarten playround? Come on....do the vote over. What's that all about? Mayor of L.A. didn't like the outcome and Knabe doesn't want to upset him? If we can start doing votes over, I have a few more we can add to the list. Lots of elected officials aren't working out too well.
The provision which allows the Supervisors to approve or deny an item for the November ballot is there for a reason--it's a quaint idea called Checks and Balances, which the MTA has conveniently forgotten. The MTA Powers That Be conveniently wish to ignore the rules.
While the Supervisors have acted on ballot initiatives over the years in a pro-forma fashion, they do indeed have the right to deny one on the ballot, because they are the ultimate approving authority--an idea that I suspect would stand up in court. However, thanks to that Tower of Jello Don Knabe, we'll probably never know.
What is the low down on the legislation that needed to be passed in sacramento?
