New twist in McCain pick

| | Comments (3) |

What a weekend for Republican VP pick Sarah Palin. Aside from the Republican National Convention, this weeked she also found out that her 17 year-old daughter is five months pregnant.

Do you think that is going to have any impact on the election?

It absolutely should not be a factor. There are PLENTY of other more valid reasons to vote against McCain than this ludicrously, ridiculous non-issue of a story. I wish Bristol and her baby all the best and urge the media to respect her privacy.

I agree it could be a non-issue of a story, but when someone is running on a record of being a staunch conservative, you have to wonder why her daughter is getting knocked up at 17 and having photos of her happily partaking in underage drinking. But that's just me. I wouldn't have voted for McCain if he chose Mr. Rogers as his running mate...And I LOVE Mr. Rogers.

Yes it is ironic that a social conservative like McCain's VP pick, who aggressively tout the benefits of their "abstinance only" approach to teen pregnancy would end up in this situation. That said, her daughter should not pay the price for the misguided policies of her mother's political party. We Democrats are better than that. Unlike social conservatives we will not sow a scarlet letter upon this girls blouse; instead we will accept that these things happen, give her the support she needs and hope that those who have ranted against courses on contraception get the message.

I also can't help but wonder...NOT FOLLOW ME ON THIS... I can't help but wonder if the pregnancy issue wasn't planted by Karl Rove and the Republican's precisely because they saw its value as red meat to the "liberal media" in particular and perhaps to more ardent anti-McCain bloggers in general. The aim: turn Palin into a media-martyr. It's already happening. BE WARNED.
