South El Monte interested in feed lot next to City Hall

City officials in South El Monte have expressed some interest in the Kruse Feed & Supply property, according to owner Richard Kruse.

After 73 years, the former grain mill and feed store direcly north of City Hall on Santa Anita Avenue is finally closing, Kruse recently announced.

He declined to discuss any specific plans for the 1-acre property.

There should be a story about the store’s closure coming soon. At one time, it was the only bulk feed mill in the area, Kruse said.

The city should pursue this property as part of the final piece to redesigning its Civic Center, but at what cost? Certainly city officials should not overpay for this property like it has lately with properties related to economic development and “affordable” housing via bond funds. The city is in need of additional recreational facilities for youth and seniors. Maybe the city can convince new Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to leverage “green” funds for the development of a local job training center emphasizing “green technology” for area businesses and residents. With the city being almost 70% industrial, this could be a great focal point for green technology development and training, especially in the labor secretary’s soon to be “former” congressional district.

Raul “Loser” Pardo I am sure the mayor and city council know what they are doing. No one needs or wants your help at all. Crawl back under your rock in South Gate where you belong. By the way how did you get the city to do your drive way and sidewalk and curb for free? How is it that you have two driveways/ That is against the cities policy. Who approved it dude? We the hard working tax payers want to know?

Wasn’t Mayor Pro Tem Raul Pardo from South El Monte arrested in South Gate for extortion? The FBI did a investigation on the mishandeling of city funds and job favors. Pardo made $150,000 a year as the Community Redevelopment Director. What a joke that was. He didn’t do a thing to help South El Monte grow. He did manage to get his home redone with new windows, doors, exterior painting and other fancy fixtures. The TAX PAYERS of South El Monte were the ones stuck with that costly bill. Once again.
