If you want to "clean up city hall" why don't you commit yourself to the complicated task of understanding city budgets. Your TMZ-style "personality reporting" doesn't solve anything...it only appeals to the prurient interests of people who probably have more than a few personal skeletons in their closet as well.

Nobody faults the press for want to INFORM the public on issues...engaging in this empty "guess who got caught cheating on so and so" or "guess what official was seen drinking" style of reporting may be fit for the Enquirer but shouldn't be passed off as serious informed journalism.

You need to ask yourself what you want to be? If you have any integrity you'll choose to be someone who trys to develop an understanding of ISSUES not some sort of scandal monger sniffing through peoples undewear drawers.

Don't get thrown off on this one....you are requesting a public record (which should be readily available) and are getting put through the paces by the city attorney office. Just imagine the poor citizen who might try to inspect a public record....he/she is in for a real stonewalling.

7. Law enforcement investigative files may be withheld, but not the
basic facts.
With respect to police and other criminal justice law enforcement agencies,
Government Code §6254, subd. (f) applies to records that “encompass only
those investigations undertaken for the purpose of determining whether a
violation of law may occur or has occurred. If a violation or potential
violation is detected, the exemption also extends to records of investigations
conducted for the purpose of uncovering information surrounding the
commission of the violation and its agency.” Haynie v. Superior Court, 26
Cal.4th 1061 (2001) But the exemption also applies to “any investigatory or
security files compiled by any other state or local agency for correctional,
law enforcement, or licensing purposes,” including investigations by state or
local regulatory agencies. If the investigation does not have one of these
purposes, the exemption does not apply. Register Division of Freedom
Newspapers Inc. v. County of Orange, 158 Cal. App. 3d 893 (1984). The
exemption may be asserted no matter how old and dead the investigation
may be. Williams v. Superior Court, 5 Cal. 4th 337 (1993) But unless
disclosure would threaten the successful completion of an investigation or
the safety of a person involved, an agency must disclose the basic
“who/what/where/when” facts in crime, incidents and arrest reports,
including requests for assistance, at least with respect to “contemporaneous
police activity” rather than attempts to obtain information about an officer’s
long-term performance that would otherwise be confidential (see 6 above)

maybe she is "grandstanding" because the police report should be released! Sure there is an exemption for investigative files, but Cities are under no obligation to withhold the police report. Instead, the city should release the file and get the information out for everyone to review....alas, I am sure they won't.

After all, it is not their business that is being conducted...it is OUR business and we have every right to know what is taking place.

Well then maybe the state of California should release any information it may have about any traffic accidents you've had, any arrests you've had. I mean after all, if they have that on file...it's OUR right to know.

People need to attend the council meeting next tuesday night and ask why they can not release the report. Maybe you will be lucky that night and most council members will be acting like leaders for a day and do not have to ask ex Chief Weldon for permission anymore because he retired...

Well as a matter of fact, traffic accident and arrest information on members of the public is available is available from the State....of course for a fee!

And then of course there is the fact that we are talking about a public official whose behavior should be held to the HIGHEST level of accountability.....after all, he is conducting the public's business and we have every right to know who we are entrusting with such a duty.

We citizens have given and given, but I see very few changes happening. When I read the agenda for the Tuesday night meeting, it made me sick. Tom Armstrong's "noble" gesture of taking a 10% cut for the year, was really a 10% cut for the remainder of the fiscal year. That's a cut for 5 months, and does not include a cut in his fringe benefits. Mr. Armstrong makes as much in a month as some people in El Monte earn in a year. These are the people financing his generous pay package.

We citizens need to take our city back.

Armstrong was sworn in last night as chief of police. His family was there. How many of his family members are members of the police department?

The reason the El Monte Police, the Monte Mayor, the city council are a racist and corrupt to the core tax-payer funded Gestapo criminal organization, is because the local judges, the District Attorney...let them get away with all types of criminal activity.
