SGV Democrats welcome Obama

| | Comments (10) |

I celebrated President Barack Obama's inauguration this morning by covering an event held by the Democrats of the San Gabriel Valley at the Taste of Texas, a bbq restaurant in Covina. The organizers said that the venue had nothing to do with Texas native George Bush, but that it was chosen because it was in the middle of the 57th District.

The co-hosts of the event were La Puente Mayor Louie Lujan, West Covina Mayor Roger Hernandez, Board of Equalization Chairwoman Judy Chu, who is running for Congress to replace Rep. Hilda Solis, and Assemblyman Ed Hernandez, who was not there because he was in Washington, D.C.

Other elected leaders at the event were La Puente Councilman Dan Holloway and Bassett Unified School District Board Member Laura Santos.

Chu said she listened to Obama's speech as she was driving between inaugural events. She made it to the Taste of Texas just moments after Obama's speech, and then she took the stage.

"This is a great moment in history," Chu said. And then almost a second later, she made her pitch for why she decided to run for Congress -- she wants to make sure the San Gabriel Valley gets represetnation -- and she hopes she can count on the voters in the San Gabriel Valley.

With a special election expected to be in March, she said, she doesn't have time to waste.

Louie Lujan's family members, including his wife, was convicted of voter fraud. This guy needs to go directly to jail and not collect $200 just like in the game of monopoly.

Yesterday was a proud day to see President Obama sworn in. The only thing that ruined the great party we had was Roger Hernandez was there. He just doesn't get it that people can see through his arrogance and his quest to be king of the world. Roger Hernandez only cares about himself and that's too bad. Wish he would of just stayed home and let us have our day to celebrate.

Hmm, sounds like a fishy group to me.

I think the inauguration was a historical moment and it gave this country the ability to see the optimism on the horizon.

But this group together doesn't sound like a celebration-it was more of a meeting of the frauds..I mean heads. Sorry my bad, did I say that out loud?

By the way, I am a Republican and proud.

As a proud Dem. and proud to have such a great new President, I sure am disappointed with our self appointed wanna be leaders in our local Dem. party such as Roger Hernandez. We can do better, I hope!

Obama Supporter said:

This event was to praise Barack Obama in becoming our next President. It turned out to be a group of politician wannabees that don't having any real jobs and wanted attention for themselves. They were there to backstab each other and it showed.

The shame is that young leaders like Roger Hernandez offer us nothing to look up to. I read the paper and find that this guy is nothing but a disappointment to our city and offers no leadership.

So, yes, we can do better than him. I actually voted for this guy when he first ran because he asked for my help. Then I read about his campaign voter fraud issues, his sweetheart deal on that SUV and his run-ins with the law.
