Monterey Park council candidate puts it in a song

22235-crutchman.jpgWe’ve already seen some interesting campaign tactics and flyers out of Monterey Park City Council hopeful John “JB” Abajian.

They’ve included “Crutchman,” Abajian’s superhero alter ego who will “capture and punish” with his “paralyzing cruth-rays.”

And they’ve also included this campaign flyer that features Abajian with horns, in commemoration with the Year of the Ox.

Now, we’ve got something else: Abajian’s very own campaign theme song, “SOS” or “Stamp Out Shenanigans.” Go ahead, take a listen.

Meanwhile, reporter Amanda Baumfeld has this story about the council race. No surprise, one the biggest issues, she reports, is a controversial Athens Service trash hauling contract approved in 2002, which is currently under a city audit.

Abajian is going up against five other candidates hoping to win two seats: incumbents David Lau and Sharon Martinez, former Councilwoman Betty Tom Chu and residents Joe Ray Avila and Luis Estrada.

Abajian’s ad with horns makes him look like the devil. Very bad advertising.

Do we really want this clown in City Hall? What a joke

  • The Candidate Himself

Hey “MP Voter”: intelligence and a sense of humor are not mutually exclusive. Sometimes laughter can make assessing difficult issues a bit more palatable. You talk about “clowns”….do you really want to vote into office two idiotic incumbents, or the other two puppets of the Mayor? Estrada NEVER explained how the fact that he admits his wife works for a trash hauler has NOTHING to do with his zeal to worm-out of the current trash contract! The Mayor boasts about how he does not fund Chu’s and Estrada’s campaigns, but does he have the guts to admit how much he’s spending on his personal campaign to get them into office? NO!! Let’s get real, I am the ONLY candidate, other than Avila, (who I never met and he did not place a ‘candidate’s statement’ on the ballot), I’m the ONLY one who is NOT a personal friend of the Mayor OR an eight year incompetent incumbent. You should be thankful that someone with no ties is willing to take a stand for the common man/woman. And being able to make people laugh is just an added bonus. Even presidential candidates make appearances on comedy shows. Please, pay attention to what’s really going on. (By the way ‘CRUTCHMAN!’ was created in February of 2008, for an entirely different reason. I just dustd him off, ’cause I figured he might bring some laughter to the people who visited my website. It’s not a poster)…Thank you. Remember, there’s nothing wrong with a sense of humor. And yes, I really do use crutches.

Abajian should have ran again. Now that I know more about him, I trust him and like too. I would vote the next time he’s run.
