State Sen. Gil Cedillo is going to take a trip out of his Senate district in Los Angeles to kick off his campaign in El Monte on Saturday.

Cedillo for Congress Headquarters
10808 Valley Mall, El Monte, CA 91731

This Saturday will mark the launch of Senator Cedillo's aggressive grassroots-driven field program, and the campaign will be unveiling a very high profile endorsement. Campaign Manager Derek Humphrey calls the soon to be announced endorsement "one of the most meaningful and impactful endorsements in the San Gabriel Valley.*" Humphrey added that the endorsement, "will arguably give Senator Cedillo the three most important individual endorsements in the race for California's 32nd Congressional District."

Guests can call (626) 421-1522 to RSVP and press can call Derek Humphrey at (951) 805-4167 to set up an interview time.

The 32nd Congressional District was vacated last week after Congresswoman Hilda Solis was confirmed as the new Secretary of Labor. The Los Angeles County district encompasses a swath of the San Gabriel Valley from East Los Angeles to Covina. An election date for the Special Election to replace Congresswoman Solis has not yet been set, but it is expected to occur in mid-May.

*Any guesses who this powerful endorsement is?

I know, I know, how about West Covina's very own Roger Hernandez? Oh yeah I forgot he's already endorsed Judy Chu.

Someone is dangerously obsessed with Roger Hernandez. . . .

Re: Cedillo, I'd guess it's Gloria Molina.

Solis isn't making endorsements anymore, and she's rescinded the ones she made previously.

El Gato Malo said:

Romero endorsed Cedillo weeks ago!

EM Resident said:

Gee, I hope Cedillo has a GPS system. Without one, how will he find his way to El Monte? Gloria Molina can't show him the way. She doesn't know where it is either. Maybe an illegal alien will drive him. Oh shoot, he wasn't successful in getting them driver's licenses.

How about... said:

I'm guessing someone who lives outside the congressional district, because, well, Gil Cedillo also lives outside the district. Yeah, that's right, people. He's running for a seat that represents the San Gabriel Valley, yet he lives in downtown LA. How is that even fair?

I sense a hint of racism on this blog. You folks should be ashamed of yourselves.

anonymous said:

Oh that's funny - playing the racism card. Maybe folks are just opposed to a guy who is a professional politician who has done litte for the citizens and who will do anything and manipulate the system to further his own interests. I don't care if the guy is Hispanic, African-American, Asian, Indian...well you get the idea. Instead I want someone who is actually performing a public service and has the citizen's best interest at heart....

Senator Cedillo has championed many issues as a legislator, check out his legislative agenda for the last session: http://www.senatorcedillo.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={3A627CCD-1500-4D80-95DE-D06644D9985A}

From the looks of the issues, he has done a lot for veterans, students, health, children, immigrants and the economy...and this is just one session.

Check his record, he DOES have the best interest of all Californians at heart.

a SGV native.

We were delighted with the committment that Judy Chu had, when she was our Assemblymember. Her legislation was commendable. She made sure that every issue that touched any of the cities she represented was addressed immediately. Having her serve as our Congressional representative will help ensure and bring help to all the cities in the San Gabriel Valley. My family and I will help assure that she returns back to our communities. What a great legislator we have in Judy Chu.

Cedillo should run for congress in his own area DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES. HE DOESN'T LIVE in the 32CD AND the whole "he's a native" is BS. That's why he has no local support except for those who still have the "ALL LATINO" way of thinking. It's ashame, but the people will find soon discover. It's funny to see he pulled all the "LATINO" press advsry down from his website. He and his campaign was indirectly saying he was going to win because he's Latino. Sorry Gil you are not entitled to this seat because your Latino. It belongs to a SGV resident, not a Los Angeles Politician.

Baja Californians?

One Bill Gill wanted to give illegal aliens the "right" to drive when it is not a "right" but a "privilege".
And without the concurrent "responsibility" of Auto insurance and vehicles registered to the driver instead of a "paper legal owner"

How many illegals are driving cars with phony "legal owners" and phony liens where the "phony legal owner" can get the vehicle out of impound when the illegal is caught and towed??

Private vehicle ownership is VERY expensive. Pay your fair share or ride your bicycle on the sidewalk.

Why does Cedillo look angry or upset? He is not happy to have Chu run against him. Go back home to L.A were you belong. We are happy with Chu. Really we are.

anonymous said:

actually two bill gil might be more accurate...

In addition to the drivers license for illegal aliens bill, he proposed us paying for the college educations of illegal aliens.

This guy is the poster child for everything that is wrong in California (actually the entire country) politics.

Theolana Ranger,

Do your homework before you post ridiculous comments. Anybody with one ounce of political sense knows that Mayor Villaraigosa is the catalyst behind the Judy Chu campaign....

Question....With the power of the mayor behind her, why does Cedillo have the endorsement of most Southern California Congressmen and Congresswomen?

Interesting???

You sound awfully worried about this election....and I must say, you have plenty to be worried about.

Sounds like more than "one bill Gil" to me."

-------------1) Senate Bill 1126 by Senator Gilbert Cedillo, makes it easier to hold gang members personally liable for harm to the community caused by their gang. This legislation strengthens our statewide anti-gang efforts by giving prosecutors more tools to fight gang activity at the local level.

2) Senate Bill 271 by State Senator Gilbert Cedillo, allows prosecuting district attorneys to pursue in court a gang’s illegally obtained assets. Monies recovered would be returned to the communities damaged by the gang.

3) Senate Bill 614 by State Senator Gilbert Cedillo, provides us with more enforcement tools to curtail the use of abusive tax shelters. Among other enforcement provisions, the new law greatly increases penalties for investing in illegal tax shelters.

4) Senate Bill 1271 by State Senator Gilbert Cedillo, provides firefighters with a presumption that a diagnosis of cancer was caused in the line of duty.

5) Assembly Bill 268 by Assemblyman Gilbert Cedillo, Recognizes the valuable contributions Chinese Americans have made to the history of Los Angeles, Assemblyman Gilbert Cedillo authored the bill that provided the Chinese American Museum $500,000 to assist in establishing a permanent location for the Museum.

6) Assembly Bill 1978 by Assemblyman Gilbert Cedillo established the CVCB program to honor Filipino veterans who risked their lives and suffered injuries while fighting side-by-side with U.S. soldiers in World War II.

These bills are only a snapshot the type of legislation Senator Cedillo has sponsored as a member of the State Senate and the Assembly.

I urge you to speak to union members, nurses, doctors, police officers and firefighters and ask them about legislation Senator Cedillo has championed in their favor.

I stand by my earlier comment.... "We would be very fortunate to have a qualified, proven leader like Gil Cedillo represent our district in Washington D.C."------------

"The first two pieces of legislation would explain the reason Sheriff Lee Baca has decided to endorse Senator Cedillo."

Theolona Ranger,

The lack of a drivers license is not a deterent. Illegal immigrants are driving anyway. If you really want to fix the problem take away their jobs not their drivers licenses'. If we quit hiring them as our nannys, gardeners, painters, and pool cleaners, perhaps they would move on and return home. As long as we continue to employ them, they must find some mode of transportation.

You are right driving is a privlige! And prior to Governor Pete Wilson, all people who lived in the state of California were able to legally obtain a driver's license and partake in such a privlige. Since the invention of cars and California drivers licenses' the system seemed to work well....Until the politics of hate reared its ugly head.

Thanks Mr. Wilson.....

I see eight members of Congress are listed under Cedillo's endorsements, and nine under Chu.

There are 53 members of Congress from California. Depending on how you define "southern California, there's 25 or 30 districts in the area. It must take a really odd definition of "most" to let eight members equal "most." In fact, it doesn't look like "most" members of the California delegation in Congress think that much of him.

I see 19 state legislators have endorsed Chu. 17 have endorsed Cedillo. It doesn't look like Cedillo's colleagues think all that much of him.

In terms of local elected officials from the cities and school districts in the 32nd Congressional District, Chu leads in endorsements by about 5:1. It doesn't look like elected officials from the cities he seeks to represent think very much of him.

Cedillo's whole theme on the campaign kickoff seemed to be, "I'm Latino." That's an accident of birth, not a reason to vote for someone.

Speaking of voting, Gil seems to have missed an awful lot of votes while in the state legislature. How do you represent your district when you don't live in the district, and you don't vote for legislation?

Constituent said:

Being Latino doesn't cut the musturd any more. It goes to the person that can get the job done. Just like any other office. Chu knows about what it is to work with local elected officials throughout the San Gabriel Valley. That's what really counts.

Boy if that is a snapshot of what Cedillo has accomplished, I can live without him. Seems like he is pretty good at pushing stuff that benefits special interest groups supporting him - what about the average taxpayer?

He is simply a guy who has decided to make a living (a damn good one at taxpayer expense) working in the political field - I prefer someone devoted to a life of public service who actually cares about those he/she represents.

Anonymous said:

angry hispanic guy,

Get on-line and do your homework. Cedillo has passed about 80 bills in both the State Senate and State Assembly. About half of those bills were signed by a Democrat Governor and the other half of them signed by a Republican Governor.

Sounds like a polished guy who can work both sides of the aisle.

The SGV could use an experienced guy like this in D. C.!!

angry hispanic guy said:

a remarkable achievement indeed....80 bills you say. So the guy that has been making a living off the public for so many years has passed 80 bills....based on the one's listed above, I am not very impressed. This is the same guy that spent years as a union organizer, went to the State Assembly where he got sweetheart assignments from his former roommate Antonio Villaraigosa, campaigned to elect Jesse Jackson President and has worked in the State Senate...right?

If this guy is an example of a "polished" candidate that can get things done for the average taxpayer....well I think I will go with a less experienced person who actually has my interests at heart...and not his own.
