Chu making her rounds

| | Comments (41) |

Two weeks ago it was El Monte, this week it's Baldwin Park.

Judy Chu - head of the State Board of Equalization and a candidate for the 32nd Congressional seat - is opening up a campaign headquarters in Baldwin Park on Saturday.

She's having a big shindig at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate the office's opening, at 4153 N. Maine Avenue - yes, Bisno Development Co.'s old office.

Expected to be there are: "members of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis' family, California State Controller John Chiang, Assemblyman Ed Hernandez, D-West Covina, Assemblyman Mike Eng, D-El Monte, and scores of local mayors and council members from the 32nd District," according to a press release sent out today.

Let's hope she knows how to get to Baldwin Park...

Anonymous said:

HA HA! Sorry but someone already used that line on
One Bill Gil.

Judy will have no trouble finding her way. The majority of the Baldwin Park City Council including Mayor Lozano who endorsed Cedillo will be there.

Anonymous said:

Well let's hope they give her a ride because BP was never part of her assembly district if that is what you are implying about Gil...

Anonymous said:

It's all part of her Board of Equalization district. Gil, by contrast, probably just discovered there's a 605 freeway.

Anonymous said:

Can we have one of Gil's illegaly licensed drivers drop Judy Chu off in B.P.?

Anonymous March 12, 2009 2:13 AM,

Since you brought up the topic of drivers licenses. Here is an intelligent comment I stumbled upon on another section of this blog. I could not agree with it more!!

"The lack of a drivers license is not a deterent. Illegal immigrants are driving anyway. If you really want to fix the problem take away their jobs not their drivers licenses'. If we quit hiring them as our nannys, gardeners, painters, and pool cleaners, perhaps they would move on and return home. As long as we continue to employ them, they must find some mode of transportation.

You are right driving is a privlige! And prior to Governor Pete Wilson, all people who lived in the state of California were able to legally obtain a driver's license and partake in such a privlige. Since the invention of cars and California drivers licenses' the system seemed to work well....Until the politics of hate reared its ugly head.

Thanks Mr. Wilson."

Baldwin Park Mayor Manny Lozano showed up with his support at Senator Gil Cedillo's campaign opening. If he shows up at Judy Chu's opening too then he is a cross-dresser (oops, I meant a double-crosser).

Mr. Ramos said:

Why are so many of you being negative? This is not a "high school popularity election." I can't believe how some of you react on this blog. Judy Chu has a lot to offer. She did her job as the former Assemblymember in the Valley. Her voting record and attendance in Sacramento prove she is dedicated to what ever position she is elected to. Her Campaign Kick Off will show all those who trust in her ability to do the job as the Congressional Legislator for the residents of so many diverse cities. Many elected officials support her as is shown on her endorsement lists. That clearly states and shows that she will be the logical choice. This Chu Kick Off will be a happy and exciting time for all the residents of her Congressional District.

Maybe it's negative because the story as been pitched by this blog as a "popularity contest of sorts." We're all just following along like sheep.

Let's ask this blog to pose questions such as where each of these fine candidates stands on issues important to the San Gabriel Valley.

For the record, I have yet to develop a preference for either candidate. They both seem capable, but I would like to know a little more about their past votes; issues of special concern to them; and what they think the most pressing issues for the San Gabriel Valley are.

Less about what other "pol" is backing whom...that is high school.

Time to graduate people.

Judy Chu's Campaign Kick Off was a huge sucess. It was packed with local school board members, councilmenbers, mayors, unions, veterans and assemblymembers. Her speech was great. The people were excited about Chu's campaign statements. I was pleased to have seen so many local Democrats.

Voter,

Did somebody forget to invite the media?

Or was everybody in La Habra covering Octomom?

Reasonable Voter said:

I saw two reporters from local newspapers in attendance. It was standing room only. Stories in the newspapers should come out during the week. A Candidates' Forum or Debate is needed.

Mayor Figueroa said:

I attended Judy Chu's Kick Off event. Many local elected officials were present as were the unions, Veterans, community and civic leaders and a diverse group of supporters. Judy's message brought hope to all the San Gabriel Valley communities. She addressed health, the enviornment, education, employment and other important issues and concerns that affect our cities. The building was standing room only and went out into the sidewalk. Many people came and went throughout the entire event. It was wonderful to see the youth show up to campaign on her behalf. I wish her the best as always and look forward to campaign on her behalf and for the residents of the San Gabriel Valley.

Thanks Mayor Figueroa, now that I know you are a supporting Chu you have helped me make up mind about who to support.

Gil Cedillo will have my support and my vote!

West Covina said:

Mayor Figueroa you and the other local mayors made a wise choice in supporting Judy Chu. Thank you for your message in support of Chu. We too will get on board.

Rosemead said:

You just lost our support for cedillo because of you dumb blog.
focus this election. It is about Chu not any one else.

Anonymous said:

Rosemead, don't try to come off as if you were supporting Cedillo. One would like to think that voters in this district would base their decision on an array of factors and issues and not because of someones blog.

People, get informed! Make an educated and well informed decision.

Cedillo Supporter said:

Who in the heck is Mayor Figueroa? She's a nobody. She's a lame duck, or better yet a thumb in her own city.

She's the same fat ugly mayor who sits behind a desk acting like she's working at city hall.

Go home and get a life.

Who cares if she's supporting Judy Chu.

Is she going to walk precincts for her? Please give me a break. She weighs like 300 pounds. The only place she like's walking to is a McDonalds for a Big Mac.

My support is for Cedillo.

Insecure people. Why am I not surprised. Mayor Figueroa has the courage to sign her blogs. Can't say the same for you all. Sounds like these blogs are from people with low self esteem. Right Hector.

Our Choice is Judy Chu for Congress. She knows all the needs of the people in our city. What better person than her to help bring change and help to all of us. We are happy to help in any way. Good luck Judy.

Resident said:

Our entire city council is behind Judy Chu. Thais is Aguinaga, Gonzales, Garcia, Delgado and Figueroa. That is the way to go. Why did you print that South El Monte was supporting you in your endorsement lost? You are not honest Mr. Cedillo as we found out. Don't print any more lies. We are watching you. It is Judy Chu as the next Representativefor the Valley.

Voter of the District said:

Most of the Mayors, Vice Mayors, Coucilmembers and School Board Members are supporting Chu for Congress. It is great to see and read in the newspaper that the local officials that we as residents voted for are for Chu. It goes to show that we elected the best qualified to work on our behalf. Now "they" in tirn will work to elect Judy Chu for a position that she deserves and has worked her way up to obtain. What a Great Country we live in.

Anonymous said:

Endorsements mean nothing. Has everyone forgotten how little support Hilda Solis had when she first ran for Congress against Matthew Martinez? The only major support she had came from TWO, that's right TWO members of congress, Barbara Boxer and Loretta Sanchez. Most of the local support went to Matthew Martinez as well because it was what was best for their political careers at the time, and not because they felt Martinez was the best person for the job (in fact, most knew it was time for him to go but endorsed him anyway).

The voters did not care that their local electeds and all the major endorsements went to Martinez, they voted for who they felt was the best candidate. Solis won an overwhelming victory!

The same will happen in this election. Cedillo will win easily because the electorate makes the decision, and it is not based on the number of endorsements a candidate has.

I applaud those who chose to endorse Cedillo and did not go along with what could have been best for their political careers.

Well said!

If people only knew why local politicians endorsed Chu........hhmmmmm..........and it's not because she has the community's best interest or is best suited for the job.

Sure said:

" I applaud those who chose to endorse Cedillo and did not go along with what could have been best for their political careers."

Those who endorsed Cedillo? The Cogressional Hispanic Caucus. Not surprising. They have their constituency and most will support another Hispanic. They are playing it safe.

Xavier Becerra? Not his district, and the one of the most ambitious members in the House. He just wants another supporter in his corner to move up in the house leadership.

Anonymous said:

To Sure,

I think you missed the bloggers point. It is clear they were referring to the local leaders that stuck their neck out to support Cedillo and did not fall to the pressure by endorsing Chu.

Anonymous said:

No one person is pressured to endorse anyone. The pressure has been from Cedillo camp if you are Latino you have to support Cedillo. Why? Because it is primarily Latino cities. Not Asian. That is their backwards bs. They are so full of themselves.

Anonymous said:

When one of the more popular latino politicians in the City of Los Angeles (Antonio Villaraigosa) endorses and backs a candidate, local elected officials are expected to fall in line. Especially when Antonio's shot callers come knocking.

Anybody with one ounce of political sense will tell you that many of our local City Council and School Board members aspire to take the next step and become State Assembly members and State Senators.

Truth be told, that if you piss off the Mayor, it could make for a tough uphill battle when your district seat comes open for a seat in Sacramento.

Therefore, I too applaud those who had the nerve to back Cedillo. Those of you who did not....Well...let's say Gil is not Antonio. Gil would never make you pay a price for not backing him.

You will still have a friend when he gets to D.C. ....Gil is just wired that way!

Anonymous said:

If Antonio is that petty and self centered then piss on him. Where does that womanizer get off. He is so self centered and full of himself. He is always out on the street trying to get publicity. What a ego that jerk has. Just the fact that Antonio "pica flor" is backing him. We wash our hands of Cedillo.

Have you seen the list of sell-outs that endorsed Chu? It's the other way around. You obviously don't have a clue!

To Anonymous, check your facts. Antonio Villaraigosa is supporting Judy Chu. So I guess according to your assessment you wash your hands of Chu! Welcome to the Cedillo Campaign! Know what you are saying before you rant!

My apologies for not being crystal clear. The just of my posting was that Antonio Villaraigosa IS SUPPORTING Judy Chu. Hence the reason most (not all) local City Council members are afraid to endorse anybody but Chu.

Many do not want to jeapordize their chances of one day running for the State Assembly or State Senate.

Trust me I never meant to lead anybody to believe Antonio was endorsing Gil.

To all SGV Voters: LOS ANGELES MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA IS SUPPORTING JUDY CHU FOR CONGRESS!!!

I hope that helps clarify matters.

Anonymous said:

I believe either Chu or Cedillo would make excellent representatives for the SGV.

Enough of this typical Democratic Party Cannabilism Fest.

Let's try to keep this contest civil so that we're not handing the Republican challenger a long laundry list of things to hit the Democrat with....sound familiar Hillary? Obama? Get the picture.

Short of that can we simply create a website for the Chu/Cedillo operatives to slam each other all day, instead of perhaps building support in the community.

Rosemead Voter said:

I like how Cedillo's supporters are trying to play down the fact that Judy has the support (endorsements) of our community leaders. And the fact that she can get the unanimous support and endorsement of all 5 members of a few city councils (some that never agree on anything and usually split the vote 3-2) is beyond me. Wait, that's because Cedillo doesn't know who is who in this district and they don't know him...maybe because he doesn't live in, work in, or serve this district. I'm not surprised that one Cedillo blogger didn't even know who the Mayor of South El Monte was. His supporters don't even know the area. And the comparison to Martinez and Solis' campaign is like comparing apples to oranges. Solis took out an incompetent incumbent that didn't do jack for the people in this district. Wait a minute, Cedillo hasn't done jack for this community either. Maybe there is a comparison to be made.

SG Valley said:

Why do LOCAL elected officials endorse CHU?

Judy Chu knows them personally. She's worked with them. She's developed relationships with them. She lives in the district. She's proven her commitment and passion for the 32nd district.

Gil Cedillo?
Well, he became interested in the 32nd District the moment President Obama named Hilda Solis Labor Secretary. Enough said.

Anonymous said:

I really don't care about Cedillo. His supporters are too negative and insult everyone and any one on these posts. That is a big turn off to many of us. This will only cost him votes and support. We need to focus on the candidates and their agendas. Read up and make a wise choice for our Valley Cities. So far Chu is the front runner.
