One more endorsement for Chu
Just saw this in my inbox:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - EMILY's List, the nation's largest financial resource for women candidates, today announced its endorsement of Dr. Judy Chu for the special election in California's 32nd congressional district.
"With more than 20 years of public service and a strong record of working to improve women's lives, Dr. Judy Chu of California's Board of Equalization, is an impressive candidate for California's 32nd congressional district," said Ellen R. Malcolm, president of EMILY's List. "While serving in the state Assembly, Chu authored a landmark tax amnesty bill that brought $4.8 billion in revenue to the state budget without raising taxes and passed vital legislation to protect victims of sexual assault and hate crimes. She will bring this record of service and problem-solving experience to Congress. EMILY's List is proud to support Dr. Judy Chu in the special election to fill Secretary Hilda Solis' seat in Congress."
Here's the group's Web site....

Judy Chu, despite her accommplishments, made the fatal mistake of supporting the proposed NFL Stadium/Entertainment Complext project to be built in the City of Industry, when reports from AQMD, Cal Trans, County CEO, and many City managers submitted written comments from their review of the "Supplemental Environmental Impact Report" prepared by the City of Industry. All reviews and comments showed tremendous negative impact on the environment in the east San Gabriel Valley. Many Chinese American voters have lost faith in her and her husband Mike Eng, both of whom support the stadium. I, for one, will no longer support them in their future political goals.
The project will create thousands of jobs. That means thousands of families will be able to put food on the table, save their homes from foreclosure, provide opportunities for their children to go to college (especially with rising tuition and cuts to higher education), and many more. Judy's vision for a prosperous community, where working families should not have to desperately wait for their unemployment and welfare checks in the mail, is courageous. We need jobs. I'm sorry to say but during these difficult times, we need to make sacrifices and the environment is not the top priority when people are out of work, struggling to make ends meet.
HSBW, I understand your concerns. Judy and Mike stand for so much more than just this project. I ask you to make this small sacrifice and join us in a movement for change. Judy is what SGV needs right now, the only candidate in this election that has looked out for people like you and me.
We as Chinese Americans are very proud of Judy Chu and her husband Mike Eng. Both have done a great job representing the diverse cities in our areas. To say that the Chinese people are not supporting both these fine persons is simply not true. We are not fooled by such comments. More than anything We are insulted. Therefore we are determined to work and support Jud Chu as the next Congresswoman no matter what. Mike Eng will always have our support as well. They have gained the repect of many cities and the elected leaders who govern their municipalities.
I have read all the endorsements for those that are running for the 32nd Congressional District. I must say by far that Judy Chu has a most impressive and diverse group. I have read up on the candidates and find her agenda to be that of the people's. My family and I attended her event on Saturday. We were delighted to have met and talked with her personally. What a well educated and polite person she turned out to be. Her speech touched on everything that is imporant to us all. We are most definetly going to vote and support this great lady.
Our family drove to Baldwin Park to see Judy Chu. She was nice and took time to talk with us. I will not support Cedillo. He has not done a thing for us in our ugly crime ridden area. What makes him think that he can do of now. This man needs to keep his word and help his own cities first. If he can't do that what makes him think that he can help other cities? He can't! Stay away Cedillo. Clean up our cities right away.
I understand that many of you already have your favorite candidate for the 32nd District Congressional seat. I don't at the moment so I went out of my way and attended both campaign kickoffs to get a feel for each of the candidates. I know many of you have your own biased opinions of who you are voting for, but as a San Gabriel Valley resident I really wanted to meet both candidates so that I can make a better informed decision on my own of who I would like for my representative.
That said, two weeks ago I attended the Cedillo kickoff which was held in the city of El Monte, which can be said to be the heart of the district. The very first thing I noticed when I arrived, was a line of about 12 students that were helping out greeting the incoming people and asking all those arriving if they wanted to help out by phone banking or walking. So right from the start I saw there was a great sense of enthusiasm toward this candidate. I also noticed there were tons of people at the kickoff; it was a very diverse crowd made up of students, women, men, entire families with their young children, teachers, school board members, union members, veterans, many local elected, as well as many big names, such as LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina, Congressman Xavier Becerra, Assembly member Calderon, and many others, ALL of which are vigorously and actively supporting Senator Cedillo. I noticed that the atmosphere was very welcoming; when Cedillo arrived, he was greeted like a rock star because the community was very interested in greeting him and taking pictures with him, from the time he arrived to when he made it to the stage for the kickoff to begin it took him about a good hour. I was very impressed by how open and receptive he was in just walking about the room thanking people for their support and just greeting them. I also noticed that Cedillo was there with his family and grandchildren which I felt brought a special touch to the whole occasion. There was a lot of positive and upbeat energy, and everyone seemed very excited about Cedillo running for the Congressional seat.
On the other end, this past weekend I attended Judy Chu's campaign kickoff, which was held in the city of Baldwin Park. This kickoff also had a good crowd, however it was not as large or diverse as the crowd at Cedillo's kickoff; I noticed that the majority of people that attended this kickoff were men and women that seemed to be between the ages of 35 to 70, there were few students, a lot of the people seemed to be from the east side of the district (West Covina and Covina); however, there were two big names that attended showing their support for Chu, which were State Controller John Chiang, whose speech was very motivational and Assembly member Mike Eng. There were also some local elected such as Mike Touhey, West Covina Councilmember. There were also a couple of men there from Asian media. I noticed that when Chu arrived she didn't come through the front door. She came in through a back door, which I thought was kinda odd like she was hiding from people. Right away I noticed that she did not work the room going around saying hi to people, she just staying at the front where the little stage was. She took a few pics with the attending councilmember’s, the State Controller, and the union members, but not with other people from the community, so there was no real interaction there. Her speech was very bland, it seemed like it was not heart felt. I guess after seeing such a great vibe and feeling such high energy from the Cedillo kickoff, Chu's just seemed colder for some reason because the vibe at this kickoff was more low key, not a very excited or upbeat crowd. I also got a weird vibe because some of the Union Members that attended seemed like hommies that had just been given a sign which read "Vote for Chu," when I saw them I felt like they had been hired to be there. I don't mean to be critical, but that's what it looked like.
Los Angeles Family,
I doubt very much you live in Los Angeles at all. Because if you did, you would see the vibrancy of our downtown area. The restaurants, bars, markets, the renovated theatre district, the lofts, artist colonys. Truth be told, Senator Cedillo was at the front end of the gentrification of downtown Los Angeles when he successfully brought millions of dollars to the area as a then freshman Assemblymember.
I urge all SGV residents to drive to the area just above the Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles and walk around. Yes, even after dark. Go to 4th and Main and take a look around. You would be absolutely amazed at how this area has turned around. Visit some of the fine eating establishments, shops, and lofts many which would never had come if Cedillo had not lobbied for funds to help revitilize this area.
SGV residents please read up on both candidates and make an informed decision. Most of the comments on this blog are written by individuals so far out of the loop, their comments amount to absolute nonsense.
SGV Resident,
Your comments about the Cedillo campaign kick off and your description of it were absolutely on target. I have been involved in campaigns for Gil since he first ran for the State Assembly and each and every one of them had that same aura about them. Gil is a charismatic, well spoken, champion of "working class" people. His ability to draw the young and elderly is based on his ability to connect with people. This comes easily to him because he genuinely cares for those he represents. I urge you to query your Sacramento representatives. They will undoubtedly tell you that even if they don't agree with his politics, Gil is a man of his word and is passionate about his district and those he represents.
Yes, even if the politics of the issue at hand is unpopular.
Those of you who wish to know more, I urge you to drop by his campaign headquarters and find out more about him. You will not be disappointed.
Cedillo a rock star. Oh please, give me a break. Next you'll say that he walks on water and can part the Red Sea. He is not that good. He is just another politician. Gag
I wouldn't be caught in his neck of the woods. Too barrio and gangsters hang out there. Crime and murder are high in El Monte. Even the El Monte Police admitt it. No one should go near his headquarters at all, if they have any lick of sence.
Warning,
A hundred dollars says El Monte gangsters can spell "admit" and "sense" with more accuracy than a guy afraid of his own shadow!
Strap on a pair bro!
Santa Anita and Valley is probably the safest intersection in the entire city.
By the way, No El Monte Police Officer worth his salt would ever make a ridiculous comment like that.
Read it in the Tribune. It came out of the Assistant Chief of Police's mouth during negociations. They know their own crime element. Again not "safe enough," Sorry I didn't finish school. But I can read and write. You got that drunk Mayor Gutierrez in that city too.
SGV Resident and Anonymous,
Your description of Gil Cedillo and his campaign are completely biased. To claim otherwise is untrue. Additionally, to claim Cedillo's kick off was diverse amazes me as 90 percent of those attending were Latino. Yes the 32nd has many Latinos but not 90 percent.
Additionally, many may be unaware but Gil Cedillo does NOT LIVE or has ever represented any portion of the 32nd District.
SGV Resident, you also fail to mention that Irma SOLIS Ricon, sister of Secretary of Labor and former rep of the 32nd Hilda Solis, was there and gave an enthusiastic speech of how Dr. Chu has the endorsement of her entire family)! (Cabinet level secretarys no longer get involved in politics)
Voter,
Of course my posting was biased. If you read the introduction you would have deciphered that. I know Gil very well and the posting was meant to give undecided voters some unique insight on what type of person he is.
However, I also advised them to drop by his campaign office to find out for themselves...Don't just take my word for it.
Additionally, diversity is more than just skin color. It encompasses, the young and old, rich, middle class, and poor, factory workers, nurses, secretaries, stay at home moms, etc.
For clarification purposes the 32nd Congressional District is approximately 63-67% latino; however, this campaign should not be about race; it should be about the candidate who would best represent the diversity of the San Gabriel Valley.
If you closely analyzed both candidates and what they bring to the table, you will find that Gil would be the best representative for our District.
Again.....Don't take my word for it.....Find out for yourselves why his "constituents treat him like a rock star."
I personally....have always been amused by it
Voter,
Thanks for pointing that out, Sherlock. Let me give you some quick facts about the Congressional District: 14.8% White, 2.6% Black, 18.4% Asian, 62.3% Hispanic, 0.3% Native American, 0.1% other. These numbers are from the last census. Now, they are probably a bit higher for Asians and Latinos; more like 22% Asian and 70% Latino.
In regards to your estimate of 90%, I would assume that a campaign kick-off would reflect the district’s ethnicity majority or demographics, as was the case at Cedillo’s kick-off and NOT the case at Chu’s.
Oh, one more thing, since you attended both kick-offs, I can assume you noticed which politicians attended. All of Gil Cedillo’s endorsements showed up (the few but all). Judy Chu’s laundry list of endorsement (paper endorsements) did NOT show up, only a couple. They ALL could not have been busy at the same time, hhhmmm………I wonder what that means? Lastly, it's no secret that the Solis's are supporting Chu, you not giving us a surprise.
It is clearly evident that Voter is not well informed or too bright.
As Anonymous says, "find out for yourself" before you write something ignorant.
I see the Cedillo supporter(s) is/are beginning to get defensive. Now, I see you clarified the districts demographics through census information as I am sure Cedillo must have recently done himself as he was quickly briefed on the district he plans on representing for the first time - ever - in any capacity. I see no one refutes the fact that Cedillo is nothing but a CARPETBAGGER.
As to the attendence of Dr. Chu's endorsers, I don't quite understand what that proves. There were plenty of people there to see JUDY CHU the candidate, no one else. As usual, Dr. Judy Chu outlined a well thought out plan for the 32nd focusing on policy not strictly politics.
I find it interesting how Cedillo supporters feel the need to personally attack anyone leaving an opinion in disagreement with "One Bill Gil". Interesting, not suprising.
JESUS!!!! COULD YOU CHU/CEDILLO FOLKS PUT A LID ON THIS PERSONAL ATTACK BACK AND FORTH.
BOTH ARE DEMOCRATICS AND I WOULD IMAGINE THAT BOTH WOULD MAKE FINE REPRESENTATIVES FOR THIS DISTRICT.
ENOUGH....WITH THIS ASIAN VS. LATINO/LATINO VS. ASIAN B.S. ....WE ARE ALL PEOPLE....WE ARE ALL AMERICANS
ENOUGH....WITH THIS WHOSE BACKING WHO...I DON'T CARE...I WANT TO HEAR WHAT THE CANDIDATES HAVE TO SAY FOR THEMSELVES.
STOP GIVING RHETORICAL AMUNITION TO REPUBLICANS AND TALK ISSUES NOT PERSONALITIES or BIOGRAPHIES.
THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL.
