Congressional race heats up

| | Comments (19) |

There was a great story in the paper yesterday looking at the 32nd Congressional race, written by Rebecca Kimitch.

What I found particularly interesting is that Monterey Park Councilwoman Betty Tom Chu is throwing her name in the hat. I wonder how badly that will pull the vote away from Judy Chu, who is the Board of Equalization Chairwoman. Judy Chu's consultant called the move by Betty Tom Chu, who will drop the "Tom" on the ballot, as a dirty trick.

Tom Chu said she is running to represent Monterey Park at the federal level. As a side note, Judy Chu is a Monterey Park resident and started her political career by serving on the Garvey School District and then on the Monterey Park City Council.

Kimitch also mentions Sen. Gil Cedillo's spending, which the L.A. Times details.

Wait... Didn't Betty Tom Chu JUST get elected to the Monterey Park City Council last month? What does that say to the people of Monterey Park? "Thank you very much for electing me, now I'm going to leave you to make more money and be more important."

And dropping the "Tom" is a dirty trick. She's been Betty Tom Chu forever and now that she's running against Judy, all of a sudden "Tom" isn't good enough for her? Does she think the voters are dumb enough to fall for that?

Whatever, man. Whatever.

Way to go Betty this shows just how pathetic you are! You are so stupid that the people working for Cedillo's camp convinced you to run and how disgracefully you did so by dropping your own name. Betty you are so insignificant in this race (and world) that this will not impact Judy Chu at all. Judy Chu for congress!

How much did Cedillo spend on Betty at Nordstrom to convince her enter the race? And maybe a couple shots of tequilla convinced her to drop "Tom".

Hey, where's the mention about the LA Times article in the Kimmitch story? I went to the link, but don't see it!

You are a joke Betty. Do the job you were elected to do. The voters of M P elected you for a reason. You should know better. But I guess we were dead wrong in electing you. My family and I are sorry for believing in you. Don't team up with Cedillo. You are being used, you fool.

Go Betty Chu!!!

Betty Chu did the right thing. Way to go Betty, you are the pride of Monterey Park. Don't let Judy Chu and her supporters put you down.

Anonymous said:

Oh no, by all means, let Judy Chu's supporters let you down. Let me start off with this: Betty TOM Chu is a bitter old hag with coke-bottle glasses.

Betty Chu is a nobody. If she can't take the office that she was elected to serve, she needs to be recalled. It is obvious that Cedillo put her up to this. It is meant to take votes away from Judy Chu. Betty you should be ashamed of yourself for doing such a terrible thing to the people of Monterey Park! You are pathetic and a total disgrace to our community.

Yep, just another dirty trick from the Cedillo camp. Why is she suddenly "Betty Chu" on the ballot instead of "Betty Tom Chu"?

Betty Tom Chu should be ashamed of herself and for hiring a campaign manager who does nothing but help her campaign by bashing her opponents and misconstruing facts about them. The kind of negative campaigning she's doing now in the race for the 32nd Congressional seat is the very same negative campaign she did when she ran for Monterey Park City Council. And after all that campaigning, she earned the 3rd highest number of votes.

It's even more despicable of her and her team to enter this race by dropping the "Tom" from her name. The only benefit of this is to confuse voters between her and Judy Chu. So when someone says, "Vote for Chu," you won't know if you're recommended to vote for Betty Chu or Judy Chu.

I don't care what kind of experience Betty Chu has. For someone who feels he/she has to resort to such negative and tasteless campaigning and tricks in order to win an office seat, that is the VERY type of politician we already have way too many of and certainly do not need anymore to represent the San Gabriel Valley!

By the way Betty Tom Chu, Monterey Park is in the 29th Congressional District, and we are well represented by Cong. Adam Schiff.

Your entry into this 32nd Congressional race is nothing more than to represent you own personal needs!

it is interesting that no one talks about judy chu's extensive involvement in the past with the corrupted ex-city manager of monterey park while she was involved in the local politics, the reason how she got to the state level to begin with. judy chu's collusion with her husband mike eng and a group of xenophobic interest group locally to protect the scandalous athen's trash contract where extra millions are being over billed to the helpless citizens of monterey park. what about the almost a million dollars of contribution money being collected by judy chu?? any half way intelligent person would question its sources and what she would have to do to repay her contributors once she gets to be in office.
if one were to look at judy chu's record carefully,
it would be easy to see that she is merely a 'career' politican whose main purpose in her professional life has been to promote herself and those deemed 'beneficial' to her, such as her husband mike eng. her last job was nothing more than being a 'tax collector', which she has just took over herself after being termed out from her last position as an assemblywoman. when looking at her two terms as the assemblyperson, it would be obivious to everyone that it was a period of lackluster, self serving period where nothing significant was accomplished. judging from her past record, there is no reason for an objective, conscious minded person to expect anything to be different if and when Judy chu does get elected to the congress. therefore, i encourage those of you who has a genuine interest in polictical fairness as well as a deep concern for our current state of being to do your homework, look beyond the superficial and go past the veneer to see what kind of a politican ms. Judy Chu has been in the past or what we can expect to be in the future. for those of you who can open your heart and mind, go beyond the party politics and see who really do have the right qualifications as well as the true intentions to serve the public, not him/herself.

Next time, learn how to use the "Shift" key. Then add some facts rather than just slanders. Yeah, I know slanders worked for you in Rosemead, but this office is a little more high-profile. Slanders alone won't do the trick.

Betty what's her mane should be recalled immidiately. She cares nothing about her own city. We need to get Sharon Martinez back. At least she will look after what matters most. We the residents of Monterey Park!

An old Voter said:

If Betty Chu is elected as Congresswoman, she can help further in Monterey Park because MPK is also in her 32nd Congressional district. Go,Go,Go, Betty.

Betty can't take care of MP. What makes her think that she can handle the 32nd CD. MP looks like a dump. I don't care if Betty makes it or not. We still look like a third world country. We are now supporting Judg Chu. We feel that she is the best candidate. She bass all the experience that is needed to get the job done.

Betty Chu can't even file a campaign finance disclosure form on time. She's not qualified to be a book keeper in her own bank, let alone a member of Congress.
