UPDATED: Funding the races
So, Cedillo's people were the first to send out a press release stating how much has been raised so far in fundraising. He's at $568,000.
Then, Emanuel Pleitez announced that he has raised $152,777.
And that latest to send her information was Judy Chu, who raised $770,167.
Here's some of Chu's press release:
The breadth and strength of Judy Chu's campaign for Congress was demonstrated again today as candidates reported their first fundraising numbers for this May 19 special election.
In the first three months of 2009, Judy Chu collected an impressive $770,167, over $200,000 more than her nearest rival, State Senator Gil Cedillo.
Judy Chu, Vice-Chair of the California State Board of Equalization, reported a strong $577,609 cash-on-hand figure at the end of the period.
From Pleitez's press release:
LOS ANGELES - Today the Emanuel Pleitez Campaign for Congress announced that it has raised $152,777 in campaign contributions through the first quarter of 2009. That surprisingly large figure, coupled with a ground force of 25 full-time volunteers engaged in technology, finance, communications and grassroots outreach efforts, places the 32nd District candidate squarely in the middle of a three-way race for the vacant Congressional seat.
"Our field and fundraising efforts have exceeded expectations, and we have proven that we are contenders in this race," said Pleitez. "But the financial reports only tell part of the story of my campaign. We've got 25 full-time volunteers who are donating their time to this effort, and it's impossible to calculate their value. Not only are they giving us their expertise, they're also contributing their enthusiasm for the political process and their determination to bring new leadership to the 32nd District."
"I've heard from countless voters that they are tired of politics as usual, and they are ready for new leadership. We have the most robust team on the ground talking to voters every day, and that's what is going to secure our victory in this campaign," Pleitez said.
And here's a portion of Cedillo's press release:
State Senator Gil Cedillo today reported having raised $568,000 in the first quarter of 2009, with over $441,000 cash on hand. Cedillo officially entered the race for the vacant 32nd Congressional District in late January, giving him just over two months to raise money prior to the first fundraising disclosure deadline. The FEC quarter one deadline was on Tuesday, March 31st and the reports are made public today.
The Cedillo campaign has publicly stated an ambitious goal of raising $750,000 prior to the May 19th Special Primary Election. The strong quarter one fundraising numbers mean the campaign has already raised 75% of the desired budget.

Wow, Gil has $441,000 cash on hand! That's a lot of trips to Macys! How many luxury Italian ties can $440,000 buy? Come on contributors! Keep them funds coming! Gil needs a new pair of shoes!
Great! Now unethical Cedillo will have money money to spend on extravagrant, unnessary dinners, liquor and gifts. He has little or no concern what's so ever for the average Joe or Juan in the Valley. What a shameful Senator he has become. He is not what we, the voters need or want to look after our best interest in Washingon,DC. We need someone who undersatnds our needs. Most importantly we need someone who leads by example. We need to put Judy Chu into this very important position. She is the voice of reason.
Sure chu campaign worker! They are professional liars/politicians!
Regardless who wins - the San Gabriel Valley is screwed!

It is too bad that Cedillo's camp ground takes on this unprofessional comments. It just goes to show once again how desperate and unethical they are. Let's not forget that they had a great teacher to learn from. Gil Cedillo.
This is the kind of corrupt mayor we have here in WC:
Employees at the Rowland Unified School District left after Hernandez was elected to the School Board because during his Senior year in High School he was expelled for slapping his girlfriend in the face. He was actually sent from Nogales to Rowland because of this action.
When elected to the Board, he threatened the former Superintendent at Rowland Unified School District
When elected to The West Covina City Council he refused to resign from the Roland Board. It took Senator Gloria Romero’s state legislative action to get him to understand you can’t hold two offices at the same time.
As a Councilmember he voted to give Mr. Alhassen 3.5 million taxpayer dollars. Within six months he was investigated by the DA for purchasing an SUV from Mr. Alhassen for almost nothing. He claimed he was a good businessman. Within a few months he traded in the car at a value greater than what he purchased it. Subsequently he has been seen at the Alhassen dealership weekly and is always asking for City legal fees regarding the Alhassen lawsuit, now worth over 7 million dollars to the City. Hernandez wants his buddy Alhassen to get a special deal.
With regards to the DA investigation, he accused Councilmember Touhey of turning him into the DA. It was later revealed that the person who turned him in was actually a person who loaned him money for his campaign and Hernandez refuse to pay him.
For the first time in the history of West Covina. A Councilman – Mr. Hernandez tuitition was paid for by the City of West Covina residents. How did this $10,000+ expense benefit the residents?
In 2006, Mr. Hernandez was investigated for Hostile work issues related to West Covina City employees. In the report by private investigator Ed McErlain, he found that Mr. Hernandez was guilty of inappropriate conduct by a preponderance of evidence. Nine City employees came forward to state incidences where Mr. Hernandez intimidated them. The City Council censored Mr. Herandez for his actions.
In 2007 police were called to Mr. Hernandez house after screams from a woman. He resisted arrest and was uncooperative with police. The police questioned a woman at the house and she stated they were arguing. Subsequently Mr. Hernandez blamed Councilmember Touhey for calling the police. This was later proven untrue by a Sheriff Department investigation. Then after his election was in doubt, he charge the West Covina Police Department with falsifying the report. He later, after the election, admitted he was made up the charges.
In October of 2008 Mr. Hernandez Campaign Manager plead guilty of election fraud. She registered at Hernandez house in West Covina when she lived in LA. Hernandez is also under investigation
Two West Covina employees have filed claims against the City of West Covina for Mr. Hernandez actions. These lawsuits could cost the City more than 6 million dollars. The City Council must now defend Mr. Hernandez or settle with the employees.
okay West Covina TMZ reporter....
We get it you hate Mr. Hernandez and yet he is still there.
Deal with it ! Just as everyone in west covina is doing.
Not everyone cares for or knows of Chu and they are not Cedillo supporters!
but good attempt in trying to drag people down in order to help chu.
The latest is that Chu got the coveted Democratic Party endorsement. The only thing that Cedillo has are LA City political machine supporters and good ol' Catholic guilt by the SGV Latino population.
Bitter WC loser needs to get a life. He thinks repeating this manure will discredit Hernandez. It only discredits WC loser.

Will someone PLEASE give this WC loser a life?!
Congratuations to Judy Chu for winning the California Democratic Party's endorsement. It was great seeing the great diversity of her supporters: white, black, Asian, Latino, young, old, male, female, etc.
Funny how the Cedillo people tried to suppress turnout by sending out a letter to delegates wtih the wrong time for the caucus--people would have shown up AFTER the voting had closed!
This goes hand-in-hand with the phone call I received a few days ago from a Cedillo supporter, urging me to vote for him on May 17 (sic) in the Fifth (sic) district. I thought this just meant he had incompetent, out of town people working for him. But, in combination with his phony letter to endorsement caucus delegates, and his role in the candidacy of Better (Tom) Chu, I guess he figures the only way he can win is to lie to potential voters, and confuse them into not voting, or voting for the wrong person.
Once again this election has brought the nasty in Cedillo's camp. Being unethical is not enough for him and his staff. He needs to be underhanded and play dirty. This goes to show that Cedillo will approve and do anything to get the upper hand. This is not the kind of Congressman we need. Can you imagine what he does now as a Senator from L.A.? Just imagine!
