West Covina commissioner puts funky home colors on blast

purple house.jpgEver drive through a neighborhood and notice homes that are painted lime green, bright purple or even pastel pink?

In West Covina, Planning Commissioner Robert Sotelo is trying to stop residents from painting their houses with such bright colors.

Ben Baeder is working on a story about Sotelo's mission -- "I would not really like to have a pink house or a lime-green house next to me," Sotelo said.

Apparently, enforcing such a rule isn't easy. But that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

In Lauderhill, Fla., the city in 2003 forced the owner of a purple house to repaint the home with colors that complied with the city's guidelines.

We'll see what West Covina decides. Look for Baeder's story in this week's paper.

(FYI, the photo above isn't from West Covina ... just a purple house somewhere in the U.S. ... but you get the picture)

Oh this is too funny. Maybe we could just create a new city position, the paint police, and put Sotelo in charge.

Heck makes me want to go out and paint my house purple.

This is not new. The city of Indian Wells (CA, near Palm Springs) has done this for over 30 years, and it has been litigated by who they enforced it against and the city won. So much for property rights and individual freedom. While I agree with the commissioner in feelings on the subject, I feel that a property owner should be given some freedom. Also in these economic times the city has better uses for employee time. When was the last time you saw WCPD give tickets for parking in handicapped, or arrest people for stealing (unless the manager at the store gave them written permission for) shopping carts. We have enough laws on the books that need enforcing, we do not need to add more.

Same thing goes for aquirening a new car that to is nearley impossable unless you make about 2 million dollors a year. Or you ben dipping into the city budget i'am not going to menchion who But we all know who! Whats next well all be arrested and charged for obeying the law and driving 35 in a 35 mph zone oh wait that all ready happend to me. Then they impounded my van because they said it was for my own protection so no one whould break into it. when I finally got my van back it was missing the dash board cover, seat covers and both floor mats. When I asked the lady at the front desk what happend to them she why dont you call the police she said giggling. That proved that the police are in bed with the tow companies and god only knows who else.
