Measure D support group admits campaign finance errors

| | Comments (9) |

Dana Sykes left me a message earlier this week informing their had been "numerous errors" on the campaign finance reports filed for the Concerned Citizens for a better West Covina.

Sykes is the treasurer for the group, which is supporting Measure D -- a controversial proposal to divide the city into five council districts

But Sykes is also the wife of Fred Sykes, who is running for City Council in the Nov. 3 election.

As a result, Dana Sykes said she hasn't been involved in the record-keeping for the Concerned Citizens group, and it recently came to her attention that there were errors on the reports filed Oct. 22. She blamed the mistakes on an assistant who didn't know the group had to file its expenditures ---- the heart of campaign finance reporting.

This news comes days after West Covina resident Lloyd Johnson sent a letter to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office questioning the legality of three campaign mailers the group sent to residents supporting Measure D.

In Johnson's letter, he accused the Concerned Citizens for sending out the flyers but not reporting the postage and printing costs of the three mailer.

We haven't hadn't a chance to look for ourselves, but Sykes said she has filed amended forms with the West Covina City Clerk.

The Yes on D Committee is in violation of the FPPC standards. They cannot run up a debt and pay it off after the election. If the printer is owed money, the campaign must show the printer as a contributor because he has agreed to donate his services. Likewise, the Post Office would be listed as a contributor because they have donated their services. So too with the robocall company and the political consultant. The bottom line is the FPPC sets filing periods so fairness is the rule. This situation isn't fair to the people, they deserve to know the real contributions raised by the yes on D Committee

Wow, isn't sykes and the concerned citizens group the ones constantly attacking others and protesting about the lack of transparency??? It looks like someone has some explaining to do. Good for Mr. Johnson for not letting them get away with hiding things...by the way how much were they hiding?

Let me get this straight, Sykes is responsible for record keeping and doesn't know whats going on. What are they hiding from the public and why are they cookin the books. And who is paying for everything they are doing? Maybe someone with a lot of money and interest in the city is trying to help them for personal gain. Who and what has Sykes promised to them in return.

Sorry -- Now everything is ok -- I'll do something else to hurt the people said:

The Sykes family can break any law, prove on their literature that they don't know the job they are trying to get and maybe we should be the ones to say we are sorry to them.

Sykes is sending our mailers that would fit the needs of a school board election but he even if he wins, he will not be able to follow through.

We need our newspaper to call them on these things not let them get away with them.

Sorry! not enough said:

Is the Sykes family above the law? Sykes has mailers dealing with problems that City Governement is not part of. Can Skyes also end our wars?

Maybe the Tribune should start calling both of them on their actions and not get away with a "Sorry".

Fred Sykes is dirty and his wife can't add or tell the truth. After the tribune did a story and the DA was contacted 4 days later Dana Sykes suddenly showed on her campaign forms $27,998.23 in spending not reported which is illegal! Dana Sykes is Candidate Fred Sykes' wife who also is the treasure for Yes on Measure D, lied on the 460 Forms. The Forms show a Sacramento Campaign Consultant has loaned the Yes on Measure D committee $27,998.23 when the committee has only $60.00 in there account. The Company who loaned the money works for Mayor Roger Hernandez's Assembly Campaign. So who's paying this bill? Ziad Alhassen? What has been promised to Ziad Alhassen maybe waiving the $2.5 Million he owes the city? Where did Fred Sykes get $31,500. Dollars in cash to loan himself? Ziad Alhassen? Fred Sykes is the largest donor to the Yes on Measure D Committee $2,400. in cash, where did it come from? Ziad Alhassen? Mayor Roger Hernandez loaned himself $100,000. Dollars in cash, where did it come? Ziad Alhassen? Why did a Sacramento Campaign Consultant loan $27,998.23 in cash to the yes on Measure D committee when they have no ability to pay it back? Does it smell to you too?

Fred Sykes is dirty and a cheat and we don't need another Roger Hernandez type on the City Council. The Concerned Citizens for a Better West Covina according to an email are workin with Paz Oliverez the convicted Voter Registration Fraud person from the last Campaign and John Scheuplein who owes the City of West Covina over 1 Million Dollars. Birds of a Feather.

Fred Sykes, Dana Sykes and Alfred Williams who runs Yes on Measure D should be in Jail for there Fraud they committed and Fred Sykes should lose his pension from the Sheriff's Department just like that dirty Deputy in Industry who stole $500,000. from The City of La Puente. Maybe Fred Sykes served with him? Maybe they can serve together again but this time in jail

Roger Hernandez is behind this madness. We need to eliminate him and cronies from City Hall
